Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 1595: Fourth Soul Challenge

”That’s right, I’m indeed afraid of myself.” Zhang Fei nodded at him. ”As you said, you are the embodiment of my fear, but you don’t understand my fear. My fear isn’t for myself, but rather, I’m afraid of losing everyone I love.”

”Pathetic! You’re such a loser!”

”You can say whatever you want because you’re not real, so you’ll never be able to understand or feel what it’s like to lose everyone we love.” Zhang Fei clenched his fist. ”I’m still weak now, but I’ll never stop striving to strengthen myself. When I become strong in the future, I will possess ultimate power, and I will be unrivaled in this universe. I won’t be afraid of anyone at that point, and I’ll kill anyone who tries to harm my loved ones. If you want to fight with me, you can come forward now, and I will face you with all the strength of my soul.”

The little Zhang Fei didn’t say anything, and he turned into soul fragments before entering Zhang Fei’s body, increasing his soul power.

Zhang Fei was both confused and relieved, but he knew the challenge wasn’t over yet, as his soul was still there. If the challenge was over, his soul should have returned to his body immediately.

Zhang Fei took a deep breath when Zhang Yue appeared there, staring at him with hatred. ”I hate you, Fei’er!”

”Haha,” Zhang Fei laughed. ”You can stop that because my big sister will never hate me. Even if I become evil, she will always trust me and love me, so this challenge is useless against me.”

Just like that, Zhang Yue turned into soul fragments and entered Zhang Fei’s body, but the increase in his soul power was still not significant, which disappointed him.

The people who appeared next were Zhang Lin, Qing Yi, and Zhang Chen. Just like before, Zhang Fei had no trouble dealing with them because the three women would never hate him.

Zhang Fei raised his eyebrows slightly when three other people appeared before him, especially since they were black with demon-like appearances. The three people were none other than Zhang Hai, Zhang He, and Chen Xin.

”Heh.” Zhang Fei snorted as he looked at his dead big brother and ex-lover. ”I’ve killed you two several times in the past, so I have nothing to fear.”

”Bastard!” Zhang He and Chen Xin immediately moved to attack him.

”Since you two have appeared before me again, I will absorb your soul fragments.” Zhang Fei immediately took out the white lotuses from his soul, enveloped them in it, and absorbed their soul power. ”Aren’t you going to attack me, my idiot father? You are my father, but I never regret my actions towards you. After all, you are the stupidest father in the entire universe, and you can’t see the truth before your eyes.”

To Zhang Fei’s surprise, Zhang Hai just stared at him and turned into soul fragments before entering his body, making him sigh in relief. He looked at Zhang Fei and Chen Xin, who were trying to free themselves from the white lotus. ”Weaklings! You two were not my opponents while you were alive, and you will never be my opponents after you die.”

After waiting for some time, Zhang He and Chen Xin disappeared from the scene. Zhang Fei immediately withdrew the white lotus and put it back into his soul.

Zhang Fei exhaled as he opened his eyes, greeted by Luo Yunxiao’s smile. ”You seemed to have no trouble in all your previous challenges, Yunxiao.”

”Hehe,” Luo Yunxiao giggled. ”Do you believe that I have no fear in my heart?”

”Oh? Does that mean you’re not afraid of me dying?”

Luo Yunxiao shook her head slightly. ”Naturally, I’m afraid of you dying, Husband. However, I believe you won’t die that easily, and you will continue to accompany me by my side until the end of time.”

”Haha,” Zhang Fei hugged her and briefly kissed her. ”What was your challenge just now?”

”Just a few small things related to my childhood, but I was able to sort them out without much difficulty. What about you? What kind of challenges did you encounter just now?” Zhang Fei told Luo Yunxiao about it. ”Zhang He and Chen Xin again, huh? This tower doesn’t know that you’ve already faced them several times in the past, so such a challenge won’t scare you.”

”Yeah.” Zhang Fei looked at Tianshi Shengjie, who had just opened her eyes. ”What challenge do you just face, Shengjie?”

”Nothing special.” Tianshi Shengjie told him a few things. ”I’ve challenged this tower in the past, so those challenges won’t affect me. However, those challenges will become more frightening every time we move forward, especially after we pass half of the area on this second floor. As we get closer to the stairs to the third floor, we’ll face three of the most formidable challenges on this floor. I failed the first three, so we need to prepare ourselves now.”

”I see.” Zhang Fei looked at Nalan Wangzi and Helian Xun’er. ”Did you also encounter obstacles in your two challenges?”

Nalan Wangzi shook her head slightly. ”My challenge was a little daunting, but I managed to overcome it with little difficulty.”

”As for me, my challenge just now was too easy, so I didn’t have any trouble with it,” Helian Xun’er said.

”Alright, you guys should move on to the next challenge, and I’ll wait for Yue Xuelian to finish before I continue.”

The four women agreed with that, and they immediately proceeded to the next area.

Zhang Fei wanted to move on to the next challenge, but he was worried that he would face a more difficult one than the first two. Since Yuan Xiajie and Qian Yan appeared in the first two challenges, he thought that the other demon gods or even the four perils might appear in the next challenges.

”What are you thinking? Why is your expression so complicated?”

Zhang Fei looked at Yue Xuelian, who had just opened her eyes. ”I’m just thinking about the next challenge because two of the previous three put me against difficult opponents. Even though I managed to get past them, I’m a little worried that I will meet stronger challenges.”

”Are you afraid you will fail in facing them?”

Zhang Fei looked at the stairs leading to the third floor. ”I’m not afraid of them, but I don’t want to fail, and I have to reach the third floor in one go.”

”So far, only the ten people mentioned by Tianshi Shengjie have managed to reach the third floor in one go. Since then, no cultivator has ever succeeded in reaching that floor, including me. I failed the last three challenges because they were too strong for me, but I’m confident that I can pass them this time, and I will ascend to the third floor.” Zhang Fei was happy to hear Yue Xuelian so confident, but he was curious about her first three challenges. ”If you feel afraid, you don’t need to rush to move forward, and you can wait until you are ready.”

”Are you going straight to the next challenge?”

”Yes,” Yue Xuelian immediately advanced to the next area. ”I’ll start now.”

Zhang Fei exhaled softly and moved to the next area, and his soul was sent to another place after he sat there.

This time, Zhang Fei arrived at a pitch-black place. He spread his power to the surrounding area to detect the place, but he found nothing there.

”What’s my next challenge?” As he thought about that, Zhang Fei felt something pressing on his soul. The more he tried to fight it, the stronger the pressure became. ”What’s going on here? Where is this pressure coming from?”

”Gah!”

A powerful attack suddenly struck Zhang Fei, sending him reeling backward, but he couldn’t see or feel anything there.

”Gah!”

A powerful attack suddenly struck Zhang Fei again, but he was prepared and immediately stabilized himself. He continued to try to sense the presence of others, but he found only pitch-black darkness.

”Hehehe... Hahaha...” An eerie laugh suddenly echoed through the darkness, but Zhang Fei still couldn’t find anything there. ”The heir of the ten-tailed fox! I didn’t expect to meet you here! The heavens have not disappointed me by bringing you here, and I will absorb your soul power clean.”

Zhang Fei felt familiar with the voice, but he couldn’t remember where he’d heard it before. ”Come out now.”

”Hahaha! I’ve been out since your soul arrived here, but you couldn’t see me.”

”Gah!” Zhang Fei was thrown back hard and hit the floor below. ”Shit!”

Zhang Fei immediately stood up and raised his guard. He tried to use his Exorcismus ability, but the darkness swallowed the light.

”Hahaha! In my darkness, your light element and abilities are useless.” Zhang Fei spun around and tried to detect the direction of the voice. ”I wanted to play around with you first, but I don’t have much time right now, so I’ll just drain your soul power dry.”

Zhang Fei suddenly felt rope-like objects tying his entire body, but he couldn’t touch them. Those objects quickly absorbed his soul power, causing him to fall to the ground. He tried to reabsorb the soul power from the objects’ owners, but he couldn’t, and his soul rapidly weakened. ”Shit!”

”Hahaha! Is this the extent of the soul power of the successor of the ten-tailed fox? Disappointing! I expected a fierce fight from you, but you couldn’t even find me, and you’re completely powerless before me!”

Zhang Fei listened to the voice angrily, but his soul power was rapidly fading away. He tried using all his abilities, but he couldn’t absorb his soul power back, let alone the soul power of the voice’s owner.
