Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 955: The Golden Vajra

In the Star Tower, Zhang Fei and the others had already completed several other challenges on the second floor, and they only had one last challenge left.

On the first floor, several groups containing all of Zhang Feiʼs women and his closest people also had no difficulty completing some of the challenges, especially since there were too many strong cultivators in their groups. Even if female beasts like Huli Zhishen and the others did not help them, those challenges still did not pose any significant difficulty to Liu Qingyu and the others, especially since they had trained so hard in the past few years.

All groups that included cultivators from the Nine Stars Realm and the Xianjin Realm completed those challenges much more smoothly; some of them had already challenged the tower in the past, while others had taken on the Sun Tower.

Their speed in completing the challenges made the old man and his three disciples sigh continuously, especially since those challenges did not have any significant effect on them.

”Master, they will complete the challenge on the second floor soon.” Sima Yun spoke.

”Yes.” The old man rubbed his beard while watching them. ”Iʼm really curious about how Zhang Fei managed to improve himself so much in just a few years, but Iʼm sure he wonʼt be willing to tell me.”

”With his current cultivation, Zhang Fei should only be able to challenge this tower up to the fifth floor, right, master?” The old man nodded to Helian Xunʼer. ”However, his strength has far surpassed his level, so itʼs useless to put restrictions on him. Instead, let him test his limits on all the floors, and we can see how strong he is then.”

”Hey! Are you crazy, Xunʼer?” Hua Meiʼer asked in a high voice. ”If the higher-ups knew that our master did that, they would immediately withdraw him from this tower, and they would also punish him.”

”Youʼre just a coward.”

”You—”

”I agree with Xunʼer.” Hua Meiʼer frowned at Sima Yun. ”I hate to admit it, but talents like Zhang Fei are extremely rare, and he will waste his talent if he stays in the three mortal realms for an extended period. After all, the higher-ups sent all the towers to this realm to find talents like him, and he is the best of all these people. However, we should first discuss this matter with our sect master; I believe he will agree to it and will defend our master if others become angry with him. Unfortunately, he will not necessarily join our sect, and he might accept offers from sects that are better than ours.”

”Youʼre right.” Helian Xunʼer agreed with Sima Yun. ”There are only two possibilities that will happen if the higher-ups find out about Zhang Fei. Some of them will definitely scramble to recruit him, and others will probably kill him.”

”Meiʼer, I want you to contact your big sister.” Hua Meiʼer and the others turned to the old man in surprise. ”Tell her to see Sect Master Luo about Zhang Fei.”

”Huh?” Hua Meiʼer was shocked by that. ”Why is that, Master? Why do you want to tell Sect Master Luo about Zhang Fei?”

”Just do what I say.”

Hua Meiʼer turned to Sima Yun and Helian Xunʼer, but both of them shook their heads at her because they also didnʼt know the old manʼs reasons. She sighed softly and took out a device; she immediately contacted her sister and conveyed his orders to her. ”My sister will meet Sect Master Luo now, Master.”

”Thatʼs good.” The old man gave a light nod.

”Does Sect Master Luo know Zhang Fei, Master? How is that even possible?” Helian Xunʼer questioned him.

The old man sighed softly. ”When Zhang Fei challenged the soul challenge back then, he asked me about a woman named Luo Yunxiao.”

”Huh?” The three were shocked by that.

”Do you remember when I asked you about Sect Master Luoʼs children, Meiʼer?” Hua Meiʼer nodded to the old man. ”Back then, I asked you that because of Zhang Feiʼs question, but I never knew that Sect Master Luo had a daughter before you told me. Initially, I believed they merely shared the same name; however, this kid appeared eager to go to our realm, leading me to consider that the two women might actually be the same person.”

”Do you really think Sect Master Luoʼs daughter is the same woman Zhang Fei asked you about, Master?” Hua Meiʼer doubtfully asked, especially since Luo Yunxiao never left her sect, let alone left their realm.

The old man did not nod or shake his head. ”This matter is still just my guess. We will get the answer if Sect Master Luo comes here or sends someone to confirm it, so we can only wait for now.”

”Master, if Zhang Fei really knew his daughter, Iʼm sure Sect Master Luo would never hand her over to another sect, and he would definitely take her to the Immortal Lotus Sanctuary.” The old man came to the same realization as Sima Yun. ”This way, we will lose our chance to recruit a talent as good as him, so I think it will be a loss for us.”

The old man immediately spoke. ”Yunʼer, our sect is indeed big and powerful, but please keep in mind that there are still too many sects that are much stronger than ours. Even if we manage to recruit Zhang Fei, we wonʼt be able to keep him from the eyes of the people, and his presence in our sect might bring us great trouble.”

”I agree with you, Master.” Hua Meiʼer spoke while nodding. ”Moreover, I donʼt like a pervert like Zhang Fei, and he will use his abilities on me again if I meet him. Therefore, it would be better if he joined another sect, and I will never meet him again.”

Helian Xunʼer and Sima Yun could only shake their heads at Hua Meiʼerʼs words, but the old man actually laughed at that. ”If you had not behaved in that manner, Zhang Fei would not have acted toward you in such a way, would he?”

”Humph.” Hua Meiʼer snorted softly.

”Unlike our sect, the Immortal Lotus Sanctuary is one of the major sects in our realm, and not many cultivators dare to attack them directly. If Zhang Fei really knows Luo Yunxiao, then the sect is the best place for him, and he can cultivate in peace there.” The old man paused for a while before continuing. ”If he continues to develop at this rate, we might hear his name from all corners of our realm in the future, and he might even stand above those old cultivators.”

”Impossible!” Sima Yun immediately refuted. ”Master, I admit that Zhang Feiʼs talent is indeed extraordinary, but you forget that there are many ancient cultivators who live in hiding. They reached the pinnacle long ago, so I donʼt believe he will be able to stand above them.”

”Yunʼer, nothing is impossible in cultivation, but not all cultivators have the talent and opportunity to reach the peak. Those ancient cultivators may have reached the pinnacle now, but they can never improve further because they are already satisfied with their achievements. As for Zhang Fei, he is still in his twenties, and he has only cultivated for about three years. He has already reached the Transcend Divine Realm, which is unattainable even for geniuses in our realm.” The old man then asked him. ”Can you reach the same stage in just three years?”

Sima Yun shut his mouth tightly. ʼTch! Master, you insulted me on purpose! You know it took me a hundred years to reach the Seven Divine Realms, but you compare me to a monster like Zhang Fei.ʼ

”Pfft! Hahaha.” Helian Xunʼer and Hua Meiʼer laughed at his expression.

Hua Meiʼer suddenly received a message and immediately listened to it. ”Master, Sect Master Luo will bring Luo Yunxiao over.”

Not only was the old man surprised by that, but so were Sima Yun and Helian Xunʼer. ”It seems that my guess was right; Zhang Fei and Luo Yunxiao do know each other. Otherwise, Sect Master Luo would not take the risk to bring his daughter, whom he had hidden for so long, out into the public.”

”Iʼm really curious about their relationship, Master.”

”Weʼll know the answer soon, Xunʼer.

”Yes, Master.”

The time passed quickly, and the day had changed again. Zhang Xiaolong [3] was still focused on studying the Indestructible Vajra Immortal Body technique, but he had not shown any progress, making Tian Jingxuan and the others believe that he had wasted his only chance to enter their realm.

Even so, all the senior cultivators of the realm were still patiently waiting for Zhang Xiaolong [3]ʼs results, with the exception of one person, Leng Hua. The old man hoped that he would fail and get kicked out from their realm so he could make a move to capture him.

Tian Jingxuan let out a disappointed sigh. ”This kid overestimated himself, and his failure is inevitable.”

”Why are you in such a hurry?” Tian Jingxuan turned to Jia Yuyan. ”He still has a few hours before the time limit, so we have to wait until the time is up.”

”Hahaha.” Leng Hua suddenly laughed loudly as he stood up. ”You are too stupid to not be able to see his failure! He was doomed to fail ever since he chose the Indestructible Vajra Immortal Body technique! No one has learned that technique since my ancestor and Tian Kongquan, so your hopes for him are futile!”

Jia Yuyan responded casually. ”If you are tired of waiting, you can leave this place.”

”Heh!” Leng Hua snorted and hurriedly left the room, as did several other cultivators.

Only Tian Jingxuan, Tian Jiantang, Jia Yuyan, Leng Xueyan, and a few others remained, waiting for Zhang Xiaolong [3]ʼs final result.

Sometime later, Tian Jiantang suddenly pointed at the Qi screen. ”Look at him, Father! Isnʼt the golden shadow covering his body proof that he has mastered the basics of the technique?”

”Yes.” Tian Jingxuan nodded to his son. ”The golden shadow is the vajra, which only appears after he masters the techniqueʼs first stage.”

”It seems we have found an interesting young man, Jingxuan.” Tian Jingxuan nodded approvingly to Qing Huang. ”However, he still has to go through several more tests, and I hope he can pass them all.”

Tian Jingxuan once again nodded. ”If this kid successfully passes all the tests, I will take him as my direct disciple, and I will teach him some techniques from my Tian Clan.”

”Hey! Donʼt be selfish, Jingxuan!” Tian Jingxuan turned into another old man named Shi Yan from the Shi Clan. ”My Shi Clan is also one of the founders of this realm, and I also want this kid to become my direct disciple.”

”Hahaha!” Qing Huang laughed. ”My Qing Clan also wants this kid!”

Jia Yuyan shook her head at them. ”Rather than the three of you quarreling with each other, letʼs wait for this kid to complete all his tests first. After that, the three of you can offer him to become your direct disciple and let him choose between you.”

”I agree with Yuyan!”

”Me too.”

Tian Jingxuan also nodded in agreement. ”All right, we will let him choose between our three clans, but you two better not sulk at me if he chooses my Tian Clan.”

”Do you think we are little kids?” Shi Yan and Qing Huang both asked the same question simultaneously.

Jian Yuyan laughed and spoke. ”See? The way you two act now is no different from little kids.”

”Humph!” Both old men snorted at Jia Yuyan.

Tian Jingxuan turned to his son. ”You can go to the battle test side.”

”Yes, Father.” Tian Jiantang immediately stood up and left the room.

Meanwhile, Leng Xueyan sat quietly and continued to watch Zhang Xiaolong [3] through the Qi screen. ʼI must meet him once he completes all the tests to warn him about my father.ʼ

Shangguan Yan stood stunned in her spot as she looked at the golden vajra that enveloped Zhang Xiaolong [3]ʼs body. ʼThis kid! How could he have mastered that technique in less than a day? For the past hundreds of years, no one has ever succeeded in learning that technique, and the younger generation of our realm has no interest in it due to the failure of their seniors.ʼ

Shangguan Yan immediately approached Zhang Xiaolong [3], who still had his eyes closed even though he had successfully learned the technique. Gradually, the vajra covering his body became brighter, and its form became clearer.

However, the vajra slowly disappeared, and it disappeared completely before Zhang Xiaolong [3] opened his eyes. ʼPhew! This technique is much more difficult than the Yin-Yang Fire Art of the same grade! If I didnʼt have my clones and the training space, I wouldnʼt have managed to master it so quickly.ʼ

[Moreover, you still have nine other immortal techniques, Master. If you can successfully learn them, they will be useful to you when you go to the Paradise Realm.]

ʼYou are right, but I will not learn them now, especially since I am still in this realm. Moreover, I want to adapt to the level of fifth gravity sooner, so my other clones should focus on that for now.ʼ Zhang Xiaolong [3] then stood up and faced Shangguan Yan, who was looking at him suspiciously. ”Why are you looking at me like that, Senior?”

”Do you want to join my Shangguan Clan?” Zhang Xiaolong [3] was surprised by Shangguan Yanʼs offer. ”My Shangguan Clan is not as big as the Tian or other clans, but my clan is still one of the founders of this realm, and I can help you a lot in your cultivation.”

Zhang Xiaolong [3] scratched his head and replied. ”We canʼt do that now, right, Senior? Even though I managed to pass this third test, I still have to pass several other tests, and I wonʼt necessarily be able to pass them all.”

”Yes.” Shangguan Yan nodded at him. ”I donʼt know about your strength yet, but your comprehension in learning the Indestructible Vajra Immortal Body technique convinces me that you will be able to pass the other tests. Therefore, I offer this opportunity to you, and I hope you are willing to consider it.”

”Thank you for your confidence in me, Senior.” Zhang Xiaolong [3] sincerely spoke. ”Senior, I am basically a dual cultivator, so I donʼt think you will be able to help me. However, I will definitely consider your offer, and I will try hard to pass the other tests.”

Shangguan Yan nodded her head repeatedly. ”You can go now, and Mu Ling will take you to the location of the battle test.”

”Yes, Senior.”

Shangguan Yan continued to stare at Zhang Xiaolong [3], who was floating down. ʼA dual cultivator, huh? What can I do to bring him into my Shangguan Clan?ʼ

.

.

.

Mu Ling was speechless as Zhang Xiaolong [3] arrived in front of him, especially since he himself knew about the Indestructible Vajra Immortal Body technique. He did not expect that he would choose that technique and successfully master the initial stage in less than a day.

Mu Ling immediately led Zhang Xiaolong [3] to the next test site. ”In the battle test, you will face many cultivators for ten rounds, and their strength will increase with each round.”

”Do you know where the two ancestors of the Heavenly Fox are?”

Mu Ling nodded at Zhang Xiaolong [3]. ”Tian Baitian and Tian Baixing are in front of the fifth test location, and they still donʼt dare to take the test, even though theyʼve been there for about half a year.”

”Oh?” Zhang Xiaolong [3] himself already knew about the fifth test, which was the karmic test, where cultivators had to face a series of lightning tribulations depending on their karma. ʼThey seem afraid of facing their karma, huh?ʼ

Before long, they had arrived at the battle test location, and dozens of people immediately appeared as soon as Zhang Xiaolong [3] set foot inside. ʼDivine Expansion Realm cultivators, huh? They seem to be deliberately increasing the difficulty of this test in order to stop me! Back then, Senior Xia told me that my opponentʼs strength would only be one minor stage higher, but they sent cultivators with a cultivation level one major stage higher.ʼ

[Are you going to show off your power here, Master?]

ʼDo you think I need to do that, Mei?ʼ Zhang Xiaolong [3] asked with a smirk as he took out the moonlit whisper sword. ”Letʼs start.”
