Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1430: Chapter 1431: A Major Loss

Cheng Su sat on the sofa in her living room, looking around with a face full of frustration. Suddenly, she found it somewhat amusing that after living in the house for so long, she was suddenly informed that the house wasn’t hers; it was a public property. It was arranged for her and her husband to live in because she accompanied her spouse in the military, so it’s considered a benefit.

This feeling is just like winning a big prize, only to be told that there was an error with the prize, and that someone else actually won. You’re asked to hand back the big prize.

No wonder over the years, she never seemed to have seen anything like a property certificate. She was busy making money as a businesswoman, and having a place to live felt like a major comfort. But it turns out this house wasn’t hers.

”We’ve been through so much, and it turns out we don’t even own a house, darling.” Cheng Su said, touching her big belly.

Qi Fengping saw her talking to her belly again, and couldn’t help but laugh, as she went to get the rice cooker to make dinner.

Since her pregnancy became obvious, Cheng Su frequently rubbed her belly and talked to the baby inside. She firmly believed the baby could hear her, so she kept talking. Qi Fengping was used to it by now, as her sister-in-law often had some progressive ideas, and it was no longer surprising.

Qi Taiguo had been particularly busy these days and usually arrived home around mealtime.

Cheng Su was eager to ask him about the house and didn’t even bother with eating. She immediately recounted what Hualing had said.

Qi Taiguo was taken aback: ”Yes, this is an apartment. Didn’t you know?”

Cheng Su wanted to throw a pillow at him: ”Did you tell me?”

Qi Taiguo looked bewildered: ”I thought you knew!”

Cheng Su rolled her eyes at him, rubbed her temples, and said: ”Hurry up and enlighten me about these accompanying spouse policies and procedures. Don’t make a big mess of it.”

Qi Taiguo asked: ”What do you want to know?”

Cheng Su threw a few questions his way.

Just as Hualing mentioned, different regions have different accompanying spouse conditions. And what benefits do spouses who meet the conditions receive?

Firstly, spouses with no job or income can access basic pension and medical insurance systems, and their residency registration can be transferred as urban residency. Housing is allocated according to rank, so Cheng Su’s family had a two-bedroom apartment with a bathroom, while Hualing had a one-bedroom, and Guiying had just a big single room.

Moreover, military spouses can be arranged for employment by the military, or choose careers independently. Those in business can enjoy tax benefits such as exemptions from business tax.

Cheng Su was stunned: ”What, exempt from business tax?” Had she paid the tax in vain?

”Yes.” Qi Taiguo nodded and said: ”Also for children, they can attend military community kindergartens and schools. Though for very young children it’s not fully developed, kindergarten admission is already available.”

And there’s more, for those not accompanying their spouse, there’s a separation allowance, though not much, about ten yuan a month. Regardless of accompanying or not, spouses and children can enjoy favorable medical treatment, etc.

Cheng Su’s eyes widened: ”Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Oh my god, we’ve lost out big time. Just the business tax savings could have bought a house.”

Now with reform and opening-up policies, there are many favorable policies, and for entrepreneurship and business, taxes are generally low—but they still have to be paid. Cheng Su hadn’t realized that she, as a military spouse, could benefit from these advantages.

Thinking of this, Cheng Su felt she couldn’t even cry, dejectedly saying: ”We’ve lost out big time, lost out big time. The taxes we’ve paid are one thing, and to top it off, this house isn’t even ours.”
