Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1421: Chapter 1422: Offering a Bribe

Hualing was quickly persuaded by Cheng Su in just a few words. That night, the couple discussed it for most of the night and decided to follow Cheng Su’s suggestion to find another way out.

Of course, now they had to inform the Yue family first. Taking the opportunity of going home to see the child, Hualing first informed her father, and then Chen Shouwang found a day off to visit in person.

When the list was circulated, as expected by Cheng Su, people did come looking, but not to plead with Qi Taiguo; they sought out Cheng Su, trying to stay.

Like Sister-in-law He, who used to criticize her for not donating enough money, was now crying and sniffling, telling Cheng Su her husband couldn’t stop being a soldier. Otherwise, with elderly to support and kids to raise, they would have no means to survive.

”Our family is from the mountains, relying on those few dozen yuan allowances to get by. Not like your family, look at this sofa, so comfortable and soft,” Sister-in-law He bounced slightly on the sofa and pointed to the television, ”This TV, we couldn’t afford in a lifetime. Sister-in-law from the Qi family, I’m begging you, give our family a way out!”

Cheng Su was both crying and laughing, saying, ”Sister-in-law He, what you said is a bit too much, talking about a way out or not, this isn’t something Old Qi of our family can decide!”

”Don’t fool me, everyone says Old Qi of your family is the one who makes the final decision. As long as he crosses out Old He’s name, then everything will be fine. If worst comes to worst, I will set up a longevity memorial tablet for you and worship it daily,” Sister-in-law He said.

Cheng Su was instantly speechless; this was too creepy.

”Sister-in-law He, this really isn’t something we can decide; any replacement considers various conditions,” Cheng Su said calmly and with good manners.

Sister-in-law He lost her patience and said, ”So, you’re refusing to help?”

”I really can’t help you!” Cheng Su replied.

Sister-in-law He gritted her teeth and said, ”Then tell me, how much money do you want to help? I’ll sell everything if I have to and gather the money for you.”

Cheng Su was stunned; what did this mean? A bribe?

Her expression changed, her face sank, and she said coldly, ”Sister-in-law He, what do you mean by this? Do you know what you are saying?”

”Isn’t it just about money?” Sister-in-law He, under her glaring stare, embarrassingly shut her mouth.

”I’ll pretend I didn’t hear this from you, Sister-in-law He, and I ask that you don’t bring this up again in the future. Old Qi of our family always handles things with integrity, and this soldier replacement is the same; he cannot make the decision. Even if he is the one submitting the final list, whether someone will be removed is for those above to decide. Your words are too much, Sister-in-law He!” Cheng Su said sternly.

Sister-in-law He was rendered speechless and wanted to retort, but seeing Cheng Su’s expression, she didn’t dare.

Cheng Su was extremely angry; if this got out, she wouldn’t know how to face people. It would be hard to explain to the organization, making it seem they accepted money and corrupted the replacement list!

”Sister-in-law He, go home; today, I’ll pretend you were never here. Whether Old He of your family will be retired is ultimately up to the organization, not Qi Taiguo!” Cheng Su said even more cautiously.

Sister-in-law He snorted, stood up, and walked away with her lips pursed.

Such arrogance, and she’s only the wife of a Deputy Battalion Commander. What if she moves up to the level of a regimental commander or political commissar, wouldn’t she be untouchable!

Yet she didn’t realize Cheng Su wasn’t angry about that, but at her attempt at bribery. Who was she insulting!
