Summoners: One Golden Term per Level

Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Some Stand Firm and Move Forward, While Others Turn Away and Retreat

Although Shen Fei and Su Muyu agreed quickly, not everyone was as decisive as them.

After all, they are students who have never faced life-and-death danger, even if they tried dying in replicas, everyone knows the mechanics of a replica.

Even if they indeed die, they know deep down that nothing will happen.

There is always a sense of safety in their hearts.

But the Abyss is different. It is the real world, and once you die in the Abyss, you truly die.

Not everyone can face that.

Especially since the communication block during the high-stakes exam was lifted, Shen Fei speculated about the selection mechanism of this exam, finding it somewhat too cruel.

If this communication block hadn’t been lifted, they might all be young, and when others agreed, they would impulsively agree too.

But now the communication block has been lifted.

With contact from the outside, especially a lot of only children with parents, once they listen to their parents, they might give up.

The score isn’t necessarily essential.

Sometimes, family instead becomes the weapon that breaks your last bit of will.

As Shen Fei thought, a delicate, cold fish swam into his palm. Shen Fei turned his head and asked with a smile, ”What’s up?”

”Nothing, just wanted to see you.”

Su Muyu smiled, never shy about expressing her affection for Shen Fei.

Shen Fei felt helpless. Su Muyu’s eyebrows curved, she quite liked the expression Shen Fei showed after being teased, but she shifted back to the main topic.

”Don’t you think this exam is a bit too aggressive?”

”Hmm, it seems the current situation is not too optimistic.” Shen Fei nodded. The high-stakes exam is one of the most important matters in Wu Xia. In the past, high-stakes exams were a testing system, but now it’s an elimination system.

Through rounds of elimination, they select the strongest students.

At the final moment, they lift the communication block for more dedication, selecting those with the strongest abilities and firmest will.

This doesn’t resemble an exam, it’s more like selecting for the military.

Yet, this is the high-stakes national exam everyone’s watching.

In such circumstances, choosing to make the exam so cruel indicates the situation is actually bleak.

It’s like when a country sends even the elderly and children to war; it shows the situation is dire.

Though it’s not that severe yet, even though they signed a life-and-death waiver, Shen Fei also knows they wouldn’t send these students to die.

But surely there will be casualties, hence the life-and-death waiver.

Su Muyu whispered, ”I heard from my teacher... a country in the south was wiped out. It just hasn’t been announced to the public yet...”

”Hmm?”

Shen Fei’s eyes widened. Since professionals emerged, some small countries that previously perished due to Abyss invasions reestablished something akin to federations or nations.

He remembered there were only two countries south of Wu Xia, and now one has been wiped out?

”Abyss problems are becoming increasingly severe, although the number of professionals increases each year, the number of abysses grow too. Previously, a military district needed to face three or four abysses.

But now, a military district might encounter double that number.”

Su Muyu shared the information she knew with Shen Fei, ”And apparently the reason why so many combat professionals awakened this year, including more rare and unique professionals compared to before.

There’s a feeling akin to impending chaos, bringing forth Heavenly Prides.”

Shen Fei raised his eyebrows, hearing similar phrases from many places.

Previously, he hadn’t considered this direction.

”But I want to go!! If I give up, I might not get into Imperial University!”

”Ughhhh~”

”I, I...~”

While talking, Su Muyu and Shen Fei noticed some students in the exam hall finally burst with emotions. This soft knife of lifting the communication block far surpassed the so-called life-and-death waiver.

Most are high school students who taught themselves, awakened professions, and leveled up in replicas where they could revive.

They have not encountered the so-called life-and-death dangers.

They don’t even have much concept of it, yet their parents’ words resound in their ears, extinguishing many students’ initial enthusiasm.

”Su Juncheng contacted me too, but I hung up.” Su Muyu shook her head, looking at those giving up due to their parents’ persuasion.

”I can understand their parents’ feelings, but if everyone thinks this way, humanity would be extinct already...”

Su Muyu suddenly remarked but paused after speaking.

This sentence feels so familiar.

So familiar it’s causing her heart to ache a bit.

’Why do you have to complete that task? If it’s not you, then others will do it!! My mother and I only have you!’

’If everyone thinks like you, humanity would be extinct by now!’

Su Muyu’s lips twitched, Shen Fei looked at her and found her expression turned somewhat downcast, being so close, he’s sensitive to her emotional changes.

”What’s wrong?”

”Nothing... just remembered something. Hey, if, and I’m just saying if, you face something that might sacrifice you and harm your family.

Yet, it can prevent harm to countless others, would you do it?”

Shen Fei tilted his neck, looking at Su Muyu’s slightly furrowed brows, hesitated a bit, ”Would it endanger you?”

”Um... I think it might.”

Su Muyu thought, if Su Juncheng’s mission hadn’t been completed back then, it would harm all of Shencheng City, where they reside.

So naturally, it would endanger her too.

”Hmm, it would.” After saying that, Shen Fei noticed Su Muyu squeezed his hand, ”Why, aren’t you worried I’d be upset?”

Su Muyu pouted.

”I am worried, yes, but this thing would harm many people, moreover it is because it would harm you that I’d do it.”

”Just like my parents? Actually, I used to resent them for not considering my feelings, but they also thought about how Eye Demon Abyss invading might harm me.

So they went.

As for harming families, shouldn’t the blame be placed on those endangering families, not those protecting them.”

Shen Fei squeezed Su Muyu’s hand again, sensing what she might be thinking.

But this is Su Muyu’s knot; he won’t force her to untie it, though he will guide her.

Besides, he genuinely believes this.

Su Muyu stayed silent for a while but shadows started moving towards the teleportation array, choosing to withdraw.

In an instant.

The exam hall was starkly divided.

Some stood still and chose to move forward, while others turned to leave quickly stepping back.
