The Dark Rebirth of Pandora: Revenge of the Abyss

Chapter 131: Freedom...

After consuming a considerable amount of the dish, Pandora stopped giving me more and started eating it herself. In the end, only my father’s head remained, and I never stopped crying.

It’s impossible not to cry seeing such a scene. I can’t understand why she is so happy about it. I don’t understand how she can say that this is love. How can a being be so distorted to say that this is love?

”Zephyra, does Zephyra want the head for something? If so, I can build a special tomb for him,” Pandora asks as if she’s doing me a big favor.

”N-No...” I don’t want this, I don’t want anything to do with this crazy situation. Why is this happening to me? Is it all just because I used that cursed ability on that monster?

Is all of this happening just because I made her fall in love with me? Why did I have to be born with this ability? This ability has ruined my life. If I didn’t have it, I could have had a much better life.

I bite my lips as a drop of blood trickles down. Anger, sadness, and fear mix together.

When I refused to take the head, Pandora grabbed it and threw it on the ground. Soon, the shadows move in a strange way, and something quickly devours the head, leaving no trace.

”I think you need to rest, Zephyra. It must be difficult,” she says in a gentle tone, as if she weren’t the one responsible for my suffering.

”Servants, take Zephyra to my room and obey most of her requests, as long as they’re not excessive,” Pandora orders the servants, who quickly prepare to do so.

Pandora comes to me and gives me a little kiss on the cheek while hugging me.

”Don’t worry, Zephyra, I’ll help you get rid of this pain. I know it’s difficult, and I know my love is heavy and suffocating..., but you’ll get used to it over time and see that it’s not that bad,” she says, trying to comfort me from the pain she caused.

”I’ll give you some time alone, okay? I’ll see you tonight...and in a few days, I’ll have to take a little trip and take care of some matters, so it’ll be a bit difficult for me to give you much time,” she says as she wipes the tears from my cheek with her fingers.

”B-But I swear that as soon as I’m done taking care of all my affairs as the Demon King, I’ll spend a lot of time with you,” she adds, as if that would cheer me up. She then pulls away from me.

Soon, Pandora disappears into the shadows, and a servant approaches.

”My queen, I will guide you to your chambers,” the servant says, bowing slightly. It seems I am now officially Pandora’s wife. I feel the tears increasing.

There’s no going back. No matter how much I want this to be just a nightmare, this is real life, my new life with this monster.

I follow the servant who is now guiding me to Pandora’s room. It’s quite different from the first time I came to this castle. Back then, the servants would even challenge me and had a loose tongue when talking about me.

But now, they show respect, although this doesn’t please me. The price paid to gain this respect was far too high.

”My queen, do you need anything else?” the servant asks as we arrive at Pandora’s room.

”No...I want to be alone,” the servant nods and opens the door. As I enter, the servant leaves, but I notice that some servants remain in front of the door, I’m not sure if they’re there to fulfill my requests or to watch over me.

I throw myself on the bed, curling up and crying. I stay like this for at least 15 minutes until I hear a sound.

I look in the direction the sound came from, but there’s nothing there.

”Hello, girl, do you need some help?” I hear a distorted voice from the same direction I’m looking, but there’s no one there.

”W-Who are you?” The voice is distorted, making it unidentifiable.

”No one important, what’s really important here is if you need help,” the voice says, skillfully changing the subject.

”What kind of help...” I don’t know anything. I wonder if this is just another trick or test from the Demon King to make me suffer even more.

”What kind of help? Well, how about helping you escape the monster that rules this castle?”

”!!!” This catches my attention. I don’t want to stay here; I’m afraid of what Pandora will really do to me after seeing what she did to my father.

But this could be just another one of Pandora’s games, after all, my father and I don’t have any allies, let alone someone who would help us willingly. Plus, this person was able to invade this castle, which must be incredibly difficult.

”What do you want? And why help me?...I-I have nothing to offer,” I ask suspiciously. I can’t believe someone would help me and risk being an enemy of the Demon King.

”What I want is quite simple, I want to interfere with the Demon King, and you at most will be something useful,” he says, making it clear the kind of value he sees in me.

’I knew it...there’s no reason to accept this and risk angering that madwoman.’ He’s just going to use me and discard me quickly. It’s better to just stay here, at least I’ll have a minimum of safety.

”I refuse...”

”Think about it, girl, you know what the Demon King will do to you?” He speaks, feigning shock at my refusal.

”I know what she’ll do to me...” I lie, trying to have some control over the situation.

”Are you scared? Afraid she’ll catch you after you flee? Afraid I’ll discard you when you’re no longer useful to me?” He’s hit the nail on the head. Fear and more fear are all I have in this horrifying situation I’m in.

”And if I tell you the terms of my help?” He tries to convince me. I decide to at least listen, if he really has a real chance of me escaping and Pandora not finding me, then I’ll accept.

”Say it...” I wipe the tear stains from my face.

”My goal is to interfere with the Demon King and buy time, but if he captured you too early, it would be useless. That’s why I can give you some protection guarantees,” Now he’s caught my attention. No one has shown up here yet, I wonder how this intruder hasn’t been noticed.

”How long?” Depending on how long, it could be useless for me.

”At least 5 years. The Demon King is obsessed with you, so if you disappear, he’ll stop and abandon everything just to look for you, and as long as he doesn’t find you, he won’t give up while neglecting his duties.”

This seems credible. Pandora’s disturbing obsession really lends credibility to what he’s saying.

”...how can you prevent her from finding me?” I ask the most important question. It’s no use just fleeing if she can easily track me down.

”So you’re interested, huh? Hahaha of course you are, after all, you really don’t want to stay here near that abomination, do you?” He speaks in a mocking tone.

’A traitor?’ This is the only hypothesis I can come up with for this person not having been discovered yet. He must be a traitor who is already here in the castle.

I decide not to ask anything else. I don’t need to know anything as long as this person can really help me.

”The way to hide you is simple, but I need you to accept coming with me first, and only then will I tell you how you won’t be found, after all, I can’t risk telling you how to hide if you decide to stay here, can I?”

I think about it. Should I really flee? Or should I just try to overcome my fear and stay here?

”Think fast, girl, my time is short,” He urges me with a certain urgency.

”I-I...I’ll go,” My fear is greater. I’m terrified of Pandora. Her existence terrifies me. I’ve only known her possessive, obsessive, and malicious side. Nothing guarantees that she will really take care of me if I stay here.

”Great, the method is simple, and we’ll do it now.”

”Huh? Now? Wait, I’m not ready, first let me...” ”Kyaa!” Suddenly, we are teleported to some place. It wasn’t a smooth teleportation, so the castle probably tried to prevent the magic.

”Tsk, not far enough,” I look up and see a large castle many kilometers away. It’s the Demon King’s castle.

”Here, put on this bracelet,” A bracelet appears out of nowhere. I still can’t see who this mysterious person is. Suddenly, 5 demons appear. I get ready to flee, but I’m stopped by the voice speaking.

”Calm down, I expected something like this might happen. These are my hired mercenaries. They’re being paid very well to escort you,” I put on the bracelet as he speaks.

”Escort me where?” I ask after putting on the bracelet.

”To a place where the Demon King can’t find you. This bracelet is a very expensive item. It can alter your magical signature, making it impossible to locate you with any kind of tracking magic, since your magical signature has changed.”

”!!!” An artifact like this must have an absurd price. Since magic can’t detect me due to the changed magical signature, and Pandora hasn’t put anything on me to track me, escaping is truly possible.

”Are you crying? Hahaha, did you want to flee that badly?” These are not tears of pain, despair, or sadness, but tears of finally experiencing freedom. With this bracelet, I will be free from any bonds that tie me down.

I just need to flee now.

”Hey, take good care of her. It would be a serious problem if she dies or gets seriously injured,” The voice speaks to the soldiers, who nod in acknowledgment. Soon, I no longer hear the static of the voice.

”Let’s go, girl, I don’t feel like dying,” The demon says as he walks in the opposite direction of the castle. I follow him, with the other 4 demons following behind, guarding the rear.

The feeling of freedom is so sweet.
