CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 690: Chapter 698: It’s You Who Has No Companion

However, whether he attends or not generally depends on his own schedule. John Young knew that for someone like Alexander Forest—who is always swamped with work—it wasn’t likely for him to make time to travel to a distant Smytheton for his premiere. So, for people like Alexander Forest, sending out an invitation is more about observing certain formalities. As long as the courtesy is extended, that’s sufficient.

”It’s because you don’t have a date,” James Black replied to Alexander Forest in an indifferent tone, then took the warm boiled water from the female waitress, deliberately testing the temperature with the back of his hand to make sure it was neither too cool nor too hot, before handing it to Jane Sampson, who was sitting beside him. ”Have a drink.”

The remark that he didn’t have a date hit Alexander Forest like an arrow straight to the heart.

It really hit the mark.

Back then, everyone in the great courtyard said that he would be the last to marry or might even not find a wife at all. Damn, he was the first one to get married.

Alexander Forest watched as Jane Sampson held the cup in both hands, sitting obediently with her eyes squinted and smiling as she looked at them speaking. He leaned in and muttered, ”They do offer chilled beverages here. In such hot weather, why not have a chilled juice? It’s absolutely refreshing!”

”Alexander Forest, shut up,” James Black slightly raised his eyebrows. ”Another word and you can go and have a duel by yourself.”

”...” Stunned, Alexander Forest froze for a while before he came back to his senses, ”Who would be foolish enough to have a duel with you?”

Then Alexander Forest directly pulled up a chair next to Kane Forest and sat opposite James Black and Jane Sampson, wondering to himself what he said just now that might have provoked James Black to want to take him down.

”Regardless, it’s settled then. I’m joining you two for the premiere. You both have dates, and I don’t, so I’m counting on you two to keep me company,” Kane Forest said, and then turned his head to look at Jane Sampson and asked, ”I heard from Jasmine Seven that the song for John Young’s new movie was a collaboration with you and James Carter, right?”

”Yes,” Jane acknowledged with a nod.

”Then I definitely can’t miss this premiere,” Kane Forest stated seriously after making his remark, adopting a very formal sitting posture. ”I’ll consider it as showing my support for you.”

”Great, then thanks in advance,” Jane said as she turned toward Kane Forest. She casually asked, ”President Forest, how many days are you planning to stay there? If it happens to coincide, James Black and I would like to treat you both to a meal. We haven’t had the chance to properly thank President Forest for the previous matter. I’ve been wanting to invite President Forest to a meal to express my gratitude, but the timing hasn’t been right.”

Kane Forest was about to decline, but then considering the relationship between James Black and his cousin Alexander Forest, he changed his mind at the last moment and said, ”I’m flexible; my itinerary there isn’t tight, it’s half vacation, half business.”

Jane beamed and turned towards James Black, who, sensingly what she was thinking, spoke first, ”When we get there, I’ll arrange it.”

Jane’s eyes curved into a silent smile hooking the corners of her mouth.

The four of them chatted for a while in the VIP Room before boarding the plane. Coincidentally, their seats were near each other. Kane Forest’s demeanor was somewhat similar to James Black’s within certain limits—both were typically reserved and taciturn. In contrast, Alexander Forest was more like Jane, one a chatty cathy and the other a less-pronounced talkative type. From the moment they boarded the plane, they chatted until the plane landed and taxied to a stop.

Looking out the window at the landscape, Alexander Forest couldn’t help but express his feelings, ”Flying is only fun when I’m with little Jane—having someone to talk with makes the time fly by. Without that, all one can do is read a book or catch some sleep. Tsk, so boring.”
