CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 344: Chapter 352: The Feeling of a Secret Crush

Jane Sampson thought about the incident with her nickname and still felt embarrassed to this day.

”Don’t mention it, I added James Carter on WhatsAPP and forgot my own nickname, and ended up scaring him off. — Princess Egg-Yolk.”

By this time, Peter Gingery should have been too busy to check his mobile phone, so there was no response when Jane Sampson replied to his message.

There was a bit of a distance from the meal place to the largest shopping mall in Capital Province, and sitting inside the car with the air conditioning on after the meal, Jane Sampson felt so comfortable she almost dozed off.

After nearly falling asleep several times with her eyes closed, Jane Sampson straightened up and decided to strike up a conversation with James Black to stay awake.

”By the way, James, I want to ask you a question,” Jane pondered and then began, ”What does it feel like to harbor a secret crush on someone?”

The feelings associated with unrequited love were discussed during lunchtime at the dinner table with Ms. Little and Mr. Carter, who both said it was beautiful yet bittersweet.

But Jane couldn’t grasp from their gaze or words what that beauty felt like, nor could she understand what bittersweet meant.

After hearing Jane’s question, James Black simply replied, ”I don’t know.”

With a puzzled ”Huh?” Jane turned her head and looked at James earnestly, blurting out, ”You’ve never had a crush on someone?”

And James’s expression darkened.

”What does it have to do with you, Jane Sampson, if I had a crush on someone?” James responded with a displeased tone, ”Our marriage contract was set up long ago. Don’t tell me you’ve had a crush on someone?”

Jane slapped her head, realizing she was indeed being muddleheaded.

”You make a good point,” Jane smacked her lips, reflecting, ”With your domineering attitude, if you had a crush on someone, there wouldn’t be a chance for me to marry you. Your crush wouldn’t stay secret for long; it would definitely turn into an open conquest.”

James didn’t take it as a compliment when Jane said this.

”Have you ever had a crush on someone?” James didn’t dwell on Jane’s comment about conquest but returned the question to her.

”If I had had a crush on someone, I wouldn’t be asking you this question,” Jane said, shaking her head in frustration.

She looked at James for a while before turning her gaze away and heaving a deep sigh.

When she was young and naively influenced by over-dramatic movies, she used to show off as the powerful woman who would one day be James’s wife, oblivious to other matters. Later, she was too engrossed in her own world to pay attention to romantic feelings for others.

As a girl unaware of the ways of the world, she only felt that since all the friends inside the great courtyard feared James, and she was to be James Black’s wife, she somewhat arrogantly thought herself superior.

That was such a peculiar mindset.

Now looking back, she felt an overwhelming sense of shame.

Back then, Jane watched too much TV and even fantasized about James wearing a black leather jacket and bell-bottom jeans, riding a cool motorcycle, whisking her away through the streets like the wind in her dreams.

So, strictly speaking, when it came to having a crush on someone...

Well, it genuinely made her feel wronged. Had she actually gone through a phase where she seemed to have a crush on James?

She had a crush on James wearing a black leather jacket and bell-bottom jeans, making a cool entrance like the male lead in the movies at the time, impressing her with his coolness.

It’s painful to reflect on the past, and those juvenile fantasies about love were something Jane would never admit to James. However, upon hearing that James also lacked any experience with unrequited love, Jane suddenly laughed, feeling a sense of relief. It was a draw; nobody was at a loss. ”What’s so funny?” The person by her side suddenly laughed, and James couldn’t help but glance at her. She was smiling genuinely, her face happy like a blooming flower.
