CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 306: Chapter 314: Why Is It Us

By the time Jane Sampson’s attention was again drawn to James Black in the kitchen, the strong smell of burning was already overpowering, and even the range hood couldn’t remove the kitchen’s odor.

”James Black, are you planning to blow up our kitchen?” To put it dramatically, Jane Sampson practically tumbled from the sofa to the kitchen.

The kitchen was smoky and fume-filled. As soon as she entered, Jane Sampson coughed several times.

”Get out.” When James Black turned and saw Jane Sampson with bare feet, he picked her up and carried her out of the kitchen, then casually explained, ”It’s just that the beef got a little charred, that’s all.”

”...” Jane Sampson really wanted to ask James Black, are you sure that’s it?

”We’re having beef noodles for lunch.” James Black said without any change in expression, and then he put Jane Sampson at the kitchen door before turning his head back inside. The first thing he did was to dump the blackened stuff from the pot into the trash can.

Jane Sampson sniffled, ”So, are we going to have noodles for a week?”

”Or rice noodles.” James Black offered Jane Sampson another option.

In the end, James Black and Jane Sampson had tomato beef noodles for lunch, and Jane Sampson, who had injured her right hand and couldn’t cook, grimaced as she swallowed down half a bowl of noodles.

”What time are you heading out this afternoon?” After lunch, when where cleaning up the bowls and chopsticks from the kitchen, James Black saw Jane Sampson still munching on the potato chips she had opened in the morning and his eyebrows slightly knitted.

”I have to be at the company by three o’clock. To avoid traffic, I’ll leave a little after two—it’s better to arrive early than late. Sister Tin is very busy; I can’t keep her waiting.” Jane Sampson replied slowly.

James Black hummed an acknowledgment, went over, and promptly took away the pad and potato chips from Jane Sampson’s hand, ”You go take a nap. At two ten, we’ll leave on time.”

”We?” Jane Sampson immediately bounced up from the sofa, ”Why us?”

”What, not happy about it?” James Black’s voice deepened upon seeing Jane Sampson’s displeased face.

”Happy, how could I not be happy.” Jane Sampson chuckled dryly, although her heart was filled with ten thousand reluctances.

Yet another afternoon of lost freedom, a bolt from the blue.

She had planned to sneak to the cold drink store opposite the company and treat herself to some ice cream after getting off work.

Even though he knew Jane Sampson’s answer was insincere, James Black’s expression softened a bit, but that was all.

Seeing Jane Sampson still slouching on the sofa, James Black immediately carried her bridal style into the bedroom, startling her into screaming.

”James Black, James Black, put me down.”

However, hearing Jane Sampson’s screams, James Black suddenly burst into laughter.

It was a particularly hearty laugh, not like his usual low chuckle.

”The gall of a rabbit.” James Black placed her on the bed and stroked her hair with his hand, ”Would I really throw you onto the ground? Your petite body is no trouble at all; I could easily manage two of you.”

Jane Sampson reached with her left hand to move away the hand that was patting her head, gritting her teeth in annoyance, ”Springing this on me out of the blue, without any mental preparation, could have scared the courage of a bear and leopard out of me!”

”When you should be brave, you’re as timid as a rabbit. And when you should be timid, you’re as courageous as a bear and a leopard.” James Black dragged his slippers and lay next to Jane Sampson, pulling her into his arms, ”Sleep for a while.”

Jane Sampson sneakily glanced at James Black and finally realized that after his habit of constantly holding her hand, the newest quirk was his love for hugging her whenever he pleased.
