CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 336: Chapter 344: That’s Not the Same

”Sorry, I’m late,” Jane Sampson quickly apologized, having planned to arrive ten minutes early, but she took too long to dress and delayed her arrival.

”Not at all, it was me, James Carter, who arrived early,” Ms. Little said with a smile to Jane before noticing her hand and asking, ”What happened to your hand?”

Ms. Little’s first thought was: Could it be that Jane refused James Carter’s invitation because she injured her hand?

”It’s nothing serious, just a sprain,” Jane gestured to Ms. Little with her right hand, ”It’s just that I can’t really exert much strength right now, but the doctor said I should recover in about a week.”

”That’s good to hear,” Ms. Little sighed in relief for Jane.

Whether it was playing the piano or acting, if anything were to happen to her hand, the consequences would’ve been grave.

”Mr. Carter,” Jane turned to James Carter and smiled after sitting down, her eyes curving beautifully, ”I feel so nervous being so close to Mr. Carter.”

James Carter was amused by Jane’s comment and poured her a cup of tea, handing it over, ”There’s no need to be nervous, I’m just an ordinary person like all of you,” he said.

”That’s not true at all,” Ms. Little laughed and shook her head vigorously, ”You hold a special place in this girl Jane’s heart, you’re on her pedestal.”

”Ever since I met Jane, she has been a big fan of yours. Even after you took a few years off, she kept listening to your old songs; she’s definitely one of your loyal fans,” said Ms. Little, seizing the moment to ask, ”Jane, I remember asking you before about your dreams, and you told me then that you hoped one day to stand on the same stage as your idol, James Carter, even if just as a background presence. Now, after I finally went to great lengths to get you this opportunity through James Carter, why did you turn it down?”

Ms. Little was quite a bit older than Jane, but because they had known each other for many years, she spoke to Jane as if they were old friends, in a very direct manner.

James Carter looked at Jane and said softly, ”I won’t lie, I’m also quite curious.”

James Carter had told Jane over the phone that he had looked through her previous competition and performance videos, and it wasn’t just for show. He didn’t only watch them; he watched them very attentively, going through all the videos about her performances and competitions he could find on the internet.

In James Carter’s view, Jane Sampson was a talented and dedicated musician, very serious about playing the piano.

And Jane had a beautiful singing voice as well.

James Carter recalled Jane’s last performance was at a public welfare event in Capital Province. Jane played the piano and sang, performing a half nursery rhyme that she had arranged herself.

To this day, James Carter still had a profound impression of that song, which Jane had arranged and sung herself, bringing many in the audience to tears.

The reason the song hadn’t gone viral on the internet was that the video of that public welfare performance hadn’t been uploaded online. James Carter had seen it through Ms. Little.

After asking the question, James Carter saw the light in Jane’s eyes, initially bright as the stars, slowly dimming; she averted her gaze, concealing her slight disappointment.

James Carter thought Jane would not answer the question and was about to suggest she order food to move past the topic, but suddenly, Jane began to speak.
