CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 130: Chapter 138: You’re Not Eating Anymore

James Black didn’t speak purely because he had been taciturn and reticent since childhood.

Jane Sampson’s appetite wasn’t big, and James Black’s culinary skills weren’t that great. The noodles he served were too much, and after eating half, Jane Sampson could only stir them with her chopsticks, not daring to put the chopsticks down and say she couldn’t eat anymore in front of James Black, but she really couldn’t swallow another bite. Her eyes rolled around in James Black’s bowl, and she began to weigh her options, wondering if dumping her uneaten noodles into James Black’s bowl would have more serious consequences, or if laying down her chopsticks and admitting she was full would be worse.

If only she had known she’d spend such a long time inside the room before, she could have served herself and avoided this awkward impasse.

”James Black,” Jane Sampson said as she picked up a noodle with her chopsticks and brought it to her mouth, ”it seems like the last few times you’ve come back, you’ve been the one cooking for me.”

Seeing James Black glance at her, Jane Sampson giggled, a hint of ingratiating herself within the laughter, ”I may not have many other strengths, but I think my cooking is quite good. Even Nina Rice says my culinary skills are exceptional. Next time you come back, let me know in advance; if I happen to have time and am at home, I’ll cook for you!”

Seeing that James Black’s eyes clearly moved, Jane Sampson added more enthusiasm, putting down her chopsticks, standing up, then sitting in the chair next to him, looking at him with a beaming smile, ”What do you like to eat? As long as I can make it, I’ll cook it for you when you come home next time, so feel free to order now!”

James Black glanced at Jane Sampson’s face, which was barely hiding her excitement, then his gaze lingered for a few seconds on the bowl with her leftover half-portion of noodles before it moved back to the smiling face beside him.

At this moment, he saw the word ’fawning’ written all over Jane Sampson’s face.

”Are you not eating anymore?” James Black pointed at the bowl and chopsticks across from him, his question missing the mark.

Jane Sampson’s face fell; she had steered the conversation this far, and yet how could this man still notice?

Jane Sampson nodded lightly in front of James Black, bracing herself, ”You dished out too much.”

So it wasn’t her fault for wasting food. If there was blame, it was on him for overestimating her appetite.

Jane Sampson had braced herself for a lecture from James Black and had thought he would force her to sit down and finish her meal before she could leave, but instead, James Black suddenly reached out, poured her half-finished noodles into his bowl, and finished them off in a few bites.

What she hesitated for a while and dared not do had been done by James Black himself, leaving Jane Sampson utterly astonished.

Most importantly, James Black didn’t show any intent to lecture her at all.

After eating, he put down his bowl and chopsticks, stacked them together, and then turned to look again at Jane Sampson, whose look of shock had not yet faded, and said, ”Make some beef balls next weekend.”

After a moment’s thought, he added, ”Make more, so I can take some back to the team base.”

With that, he picked up the bowl and chopsticks and went into the kitchen to wash up, leaving Jane Sampson sitting there, slowly responding with an okay, sure.

Only then did Jane Sampson remember that James Black seemed to really enjoy the handmade beef balls she made. Before, when he came home, if there were any left in the house, he would take some back to the team base.

When James Black was at the team base, he mostly ate in the dining hall, but according to Peter Gingery, he would occasionally cook noodles at his place.

Jane Sampson touched her head, so, after all her flattery just now, had she come out ahead or lost out?
