I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 63: Chapter 63: The Cause of Blindness

Hearing that Yang Wulang wanted to talk to Beisitian, Luo Anguo naturally understood. Being a fellow doctor, Yang Wulang didn’t achieve what his Little Tian’er did, so he definitely wanted to have a good discussion.

Luo Anguo’s face was all smiles, but his heart was even more delighted.

”Little Tian’er has gone to herd sheep, wait for her to come back.”

”Alright, alright, I’ll wait.” Yang Wulang said.

If he didn’t figure this matter out today, he wouldn’t be able to sleep upon returning home.

An hour or more felt a bit long for Yang Wulang. Although chatting with Luo Anguo, his mind was entirely on the gate, hoping to hear any sign, anxiously waiting for Beisitian to return.

Amid this anxious waiting, Beisitian returned herding the sheep.

Yang Wulang hurriedly went out to welcome, arriving at the outer room, just as Beisitian entered, and upon seeing her take out three grass snakes from the basket, he was frightened out of his wits.

Although snakes were common in the countryside, seeing them still startled him at first glance.

Watching Beisitian adeptly handling the grass snakes, he couldn’t help but think this girl, despite looking delicate, was indeed fierce!

”Uncle Yang is here, please sit down, I’ll handle the snakes first.” Beisitian said.

The best thing about snakes is naturally the snakes’ gallbladder. In the past, when they were out in the wild, their master and apprentice would always get some snake gallbladder for nourishment.

Now, catching the snakes was to help nourish Luo Anping.

In no time, after briefly handling the snakes, Beisitian washed her hands and went indoors. She knew Yang Wulang would be shocked upon seeing Luo Anping, but she planned to reveal the truth sooner or later, so she wasn’t going to hide it.

What Yang Wulang naturally asked about was how Beisitian cured Luo Anping. Beisitian omitted the Xuan Talisman and roughly explained the theory, including promoting blood circulation and bone healing.

However, she mentioned talismanic water as an ancestral herbal broth, which made it difficult for Yang Wulang to dig deeper into this aspect.

Listening to Beisitian speak fluently, Yang Wulang found no problems at all. Instead, he felt he had gained a lot.

He also knew about promoting blood circulation and bone healing, but usually, once a fracture was set, that was it. Only at big hospitals during inpatient stays would it be so detailed and comprehensive.

Just as Beisitian anticipated, when Yang Wulang heard it was ancestral herbal broth, he was intrigued yet hesitant to continue asking.

After understanding the situation, the way Yang Wulang looked at Beisitian changed. She actually knew how to heal, and just in this aspect alone, she was much more professional than a part-time practitioner like him!

”How come I never heard that you knew how to heal before?” Yang Wulang couldn’t help but ask.

Being from the same village, there was no such thing as a secret. If anyone had anything going on, how could people not know? Yang Wulang was sure that if anyone outside knew Beisitian understood medicine, no one else would!

”What do you think the reason could be? It’s all because of Du Bapi!” Mrs. Qin said with a face pulled long.

Her Little Tian’er was so outstanding, yet held back by Du Bapi!

Beisitian smiled without saying anything. With a ready-made excuse, she was spared from covering it up.

Seeing her not speaking, Yang Wulang assumed she acquiesced. Everyone knew what kind of person Du Chunmei was; it might be Old Sir Bei secretly taught his daughter!

Yang Wulang also willingly helped Beisitian cover up in his heart.

After chatting for a bit more and finding it was mealtime, Yang Wulang left.

Luo Anping, laying his leg flat, smiled at the four eggs on the table. Now he could eat eggs again.

Dinner was still sumptuous. Because the issue with Ba Wang Zhang Family was addressed, Beisitian brought back two sheep legs. For several consecutive days, they had been having mutton bone soup, which benefited Luo Anping and also everyone else.

Beisitian added a medicinal meal made of Polygonum multiflorum and Black Goji as the main ingredients, supplemented by several neutral herbs, into the mutton bone soup. After drinking it for several days, everyone felt stronger.

The spiritual power Beisitian had consumed over this time not only quickly restored but also developed in a positive direction.

At the dining table, Mrs. Qin said while eating, ”If we keep eating like this, I’m going to heat up soon. Let’s brew some chrysanthemum tea tomorrow.”

”Brewing some would be good.” Beisitian said.

”Exactly, in the past I used to drink chrysanthemum tea and never heated up. Also, food back then wasn’t as good as now. At that time, I used to have heart palpitations often, so I soaked chrysanthemum with licorice...”

Hearing Mrs. Qin’s words, Beisitian had a thought and put down her chopsticks, asking, ”Licorice and chrysanthemum?”

”Yes, doesn’t licorice treat heart palpitations? Even Yang Wulang says so.” Mrs. Qin said.

”Back then, how much licorice did you eat and how much chrysanthemum tea did you drink daily?” Beisitian inquired.

”Ate them like meals every day. Licorice isn’t expensive and is plentiful outside. It treats heart palpitations, so why not eat more? Normally, I’d just drink chrysanthemum tea for water, isn’t that how you reduce heat?”

Looking at Mrs. Qin, Beisitian asked, ”Mom, who told you this method?”

Luo Anguo, noticing Beisitian seemed to realize something, looked up at her.

”Qin Hongmei, back then she wasn’t like how she is now, though she was still annoying.” Mrs. Qin said.

Beisitian’s eyes turned slightly cold.

”What’s wrong, Little Tian’er?” Luo Anguo noticed something was off and asked.

After a brief hesitation, Beisitian thought it better to tell them, so she said, ”Anything consumed excessively has counter effects, and traditional Chinese medicine is no different; licorice and chrysanthemum are also traditional medicines, and excessive consumption has side effects.”

”What side effects?” Mrs. Qin’s brow furrowed into the ’川’ character again.

”Consuming more than 250 grams of licorice daily can easily lead to some toxic side effects, most notably loss of vision in both eyes.” Looking at Mrs. Qin, Beisitian continued, ”If chrysanthemum is drunk excessively, it can cause itchy eyes and conjunctivitis, similar to Ping’an’s recent infection, it’s called inflammation.”

Beisitian only learned the term ’inflammation’ after hearing Yang Wulang mention it in the region.

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Qin stopped her chopsticks; she remembered her eyes being unbearably itchy for a long time before going blind, attributing it to fatigue from work!

”But I asked Yang Wulang, and he said eating licorice does treat heart palpitations, and chrysanthemum can reduce heat!”

”That’s true, but Uncle Yang probably didn’t know you were eating that much daily!”

Mrs. Qin looked bewildered, ”I ate so much because Qin Hongmei said to see effects, I needed to eat more, best if it was like a meal... it was, it was her!”

There’s no doubt Qin Hongmei caused Mrs. Qin’s blindness!

Luo Anguo slammed his chopsticks onto the table, ”I’ll go find her!”

Beisitian said, ”Dad, don’t rush. So many years have passed, going now, Qin Hongmei will definitely not admit it. Does Mom know why Qin Hongmei did this?”

Mrs. Qin shook her head; if she had known, she would’ve taken precautions back then.
