I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: The Wolfhounds’ Escort

Zhou Tian made the right decision by leaving the small puppy with Beisitian. Other families might only feed it porridge with bits of steamed cornmeal cakes. Even Zhou Tian could only give it some hunted meat, but with Beisitian, it could have a sip of broth every day!

This broth is not just any broth, but a herbal soup made by Beisitian, including Polygonum multiflorum and Black Goji!

Because the puppy is too young, feeding it too well could upset its stomach. Beisitian would only scoop some out when she first adds it in and mix it with cornmeal porridge to feed it.

The small puppy is growing very well. Although it has only just opened its eyes in a week, it can already walk.

Looking at the time, another week will pass, and it will be time to deliver goods to the town again. She decides to go to the mountains once before that.

She can’t stop thinking about the Black Goji!

”Dad, today I want to go to the mountains to see if there are any good medicinal herbs,” Beisitian said.

She had told Luo Anguo about the Polygonum multiflorum and Black Goji. This period of change among the four of them must have been evident to their eyes.

Luo Anguo listened and remained silent. He didn’t want to keep Beisitian from going to the mountains but was worried about her going alone.

But what can he do about worrying?

At home, those who are disabled are disabled, those who are blind are blind, and the only whole person left is too young to be of any use!

He really didn’t know what to say!

Seeing Luo Anguo sulkily smoking on the side, Beisitian knew he was upset. Since this father-in-law doesn’t speak much about many things, she doesn’t know what he thinks.

Mrs. Qin put down her work, sighed, and said, ”Little Tian’er, we’re quite satisfied that the family can eat something good. As for improving our health, it doesn’t make much difference for those of us who work the fields.”

Now, they don’t even count as field workers. Field workers can still feed themselves. If it weren’t for Beisitian, they’d have to rely on those few sheep, let alone white flour buns—even the cornbread has to be eaten sparingly!

”How could it be useless? Just relying on white flour buns won’t give us this complexion. Look at Ping’an; doesn’t he seem a bit taller compared to two or three months ago?” Beisitian said.

Luo Ping’an has indeed grown taller and gained weight. He used to be skinny and bony, with prominent ribs visible when he lifted his shirt. Now, if he’s not lying down, you can’t see his ribs clearly.

The biggest change should be Luo Anping, at an age where he’s growing. With a bit of nutrition, he quickly grows taller and gains weight.

The second most noticeable change is with Beisitian. Compared to three months ago, her sunken cheeks have filled out, looking much prettier. Her height isn’t considered short; when she was thin, she walked unsteadily. Now, walking with her head held high, she looks very spirited.

Additionally, after gaining weight, Beisitian realized the original owner should be quite good-looking. The dark skin can be changed; if the foundation isn’t good, there’s nothing to be done.

In the original owner’s memory, Beisitian didn’t find her mother’s appearance, only her father’s. Beidewang was quite handsome, cultured, and knowledgeable about medicine, having a bit of a refined air. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have caught the eye of the village’s young girls after his first wife died, even with a child—Du Chunmei!

”It’s too dangerous for you to go alone. There’s all kinds of stuff in the mountains. What if you encounter something?” Mrs. Qin’s brows furrowed into a ’川’.

Beisitian heard this and then heard Luo Anguo sigh, finally realizing they were worried about her going to the mountains alone.

Beisitian smiled, ”I won’t go far, just past the North Slope into that mountain hollow, not going deep.”

After assuring them repeatedly that she wouldn’t venture into the deep mountains, Luo Anguo and Mrs. Qin nodded. They lacked confidence; as much as they said, there was no one to accompany Beisitian!

Beisitian left at daylight the next day, carrying food and water, and of course, taking enough medicine powder and talisman powder. Yellow paper and a brush were also kept in a hidden pocket in her frock. These were her means of survival.

As she walked away, the small puppy tottered over to her feet. After thinking for a bit, she picked it up and placed it in the basket, planning for them to reunite with the big dog this time.

Following the North Slope into the mountain hollow, the big wolf dog was already waiting there, but Zhou Tian wasn’t seen this time.

The big wolf dog seemed to smell the scent of the puppy, circling behind Beisitian eagerly. Seeing this, Beisitian had to put the puppy down to let them bond for a while.

”Alright, let’s go,” Beisitian put the puppy back into the basket, carried it on her back, and set off.

The big wolf dog, knowing the puppy was nearby, seemed even more excited than before, trotting ahead to lead the way.

After the hollow, one person and one dog headed towards the mountain stream where they had avoided the bear last time.

Beisitian had asked Zhou Tian for the approximate location. Although he hadn’t been there, he knew the place. Following the stream continuously, after passing a Skyline, they would see a pool of water, where the Black Goji grew under the cliff nearby.

The route was quite straightforward, but since that area often showed signs of bears, no one dared to go, which is why those few Black Goji grew well each year without being discovered.

Beisitian descended the slope and entered the gorge at the mountain stream. Just as she came down, the big wolf dog let out a howl, soon followed by scattered sounds from the slope.

Beisitian turned around and saw seven or eight big wolf dogs from before running down to join the female wolf dog.

Beisitian knew there was a leader among wolves; could this female wolf dog be the leader among this pack?

As it turned out, Beisitian guessed right; the female wolf dog was indeed the pack leader.

With so many big wolf dogs, even if they encountered the bear again, they might not necessarily suffer losses.

At this moment, Beisitian felt relieved.

The mountain stream contained many medicinal herbs, those that replenish energy and blood, those that stopped bleeding and pain. Beisitian picked many along the way.

Entering Skyline, Beisitian laughed; this was just a crack in a mountain compared to a real Skyline, far less impressive.

Past Skyline, Beisitian saw the pool of water.

Under the lead of the female wolf dog, the pack had organization and discipline, with two wolf dogs sent ahead to scout the path before entering Skyline.

The pool area was surrounded by mountains, resembling a ’big well’. Beisitian initially thought the water might be stagnant, but upon closer inspection, it seemed to be moving water.

It appears the pool water might be connected to either underground rivers or extending beyond the mountains.

Viewing the pool, Beisitian felt relatively safe, then started searching for Black Goji along the cliff.

Almost effortlessly, she found two thorny bushes under the cliff. Finding Black Goji made her very excited, yet unbeknownst to her, a stir had already erupted at home.
