I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: You Saved My Dog?

After the third puppy was born, the mother wolfdog bit off the umbilical cord and began to gently lick their bodies. Beisitian, sitting nearby, also felt very exhausted. Although she hadn’t exerted much strength, she was extremely tense during that period.

The sun had already started to set, and Beisitian stood up by the Kao Shan River. She needed to find something for the wolfdog to eat, as it was very weak after just giving birth.

Polygonum multiflorum was out of the question. Firstly, it had just given birth, so it shouldn’t consume overly nourishing things. It would be better to wait a day or two.

Moreover, she was unwilling to give such a precious herb to a wolfdog. She had already felt incredibly distressed using just a small piece the size of a thumbnail!

Beisitian didn’t have any tools in her hands. Looking around at the trees, even if she broke off a branch, there was no tool to sharpen it, so it would be impossible to use it to catch fish.

Beisitian thought of possibly catching a rabbit or some other small animal but found she didn’t have suitable tools. This time, she had only brought harmful medicine powder and talisman powder, without preparing anything else.

She was troubled. Having come this far, she couldn’t just leave the wolfdogs here. The adults were weak, and the young ones were too small. They would probably be eaten to the bone by morning in these mountains and forests.

Just as she was thinking about this, she suddenly heard a noise coming from the south. She turned her head to see seven or eight wolves rushing towards her!

Beisitian was shocked. Before she could even run, in the blink of an eye, those seven or eight wolves had surrounded her!

She stood still, her gaze cold and steady. Seeing these so-called wolves up close, she realized they were also not wolves but wolfdogs!

Since they were wolfdogs, they should be with the one on the hillside. However, she didn’t dare to speak now. The eyes of these wolfdogs were flashing with fierceness. They clearly smelled the scent of the other wolfdog and the blood on her, probably thinking she had hurt that wolfdog!

As long as Beisitian shouted loudly, given the wolfdog’s intelligence, it would certainly sense something was amiss over here. As soon as it appeared, her crisis would be resolved.

But she didn’t dare to shout. Without looking behind, just the three larger wolfdogs in front of her were baring their teeth at her, scratching the ground with their front paws, seeming to suppress the urge to pounce and tear her apart!

Any small movement Beisitian made at this moment would stimulate them!

She didn’t want to take risks, so she could only wait for the owner of these wolfdogs to appear.

Beisitian’s decision was correct. Just as the three wolfdogs were at their limit, she suddenly heard a melodious whistle, carrying some rhythm.

Upon hearing the whistle, the wolfdogs backed up a few steps, growling lowly, but their fierce eyes still fixed on Beisitian.

Before long, an old man in shabby clothes appeared in sight. Although his clothes were very worn out, they were clean and somewhat faded from washing. His hair was long, neatly tied at the back, and his face was deeply lined, suggesting he was about fifty years old.

The old man’s expression was wooden, his triangular eyes flashing coldly, sizing up Beisitian.

”The blood on you belongs to my dog.” The old man spoke hoarsely and somewhat awkwardly, as if he hadn’t spoken in a long time.

”Is it the pregnant wolfdog?” Beisitian questioned back.

Upon hearing this, the old man’s expression became even grimmer, almost as if clouds gathered densely.

”Where is it!”

As soon as the old man finished speaking, the wolfdogs, which had retreated slightly, surrounded Beisitian once more, baring their teeth and growling, eager to devour her!

Seeing this, Beisitian actually felt relieved, slightly turning her head to look at the northern hillside, saying, ”It’s over there.”

The old man turned his head to squint at the area, sneering, ”Trying to trick me? If my dog were over there, these big fellows wouldn’t be so calm!”

Beisitian glanced at the low-growling wolfdogs. This was calm?

”It truly is over there, and there are also three puppies. You can go and see for yourself,” Beisitian said.

When she had just arrived, she had scattered medicine powder around the area where the mother dog and puppies were, to neutralize their blood scent. She was afraid that a bear might follow the scent.

The old man considered her words. Since the terrain over there was higher, he couldn’t see the wolfdog, so he pursed his lips, gently whistling. One of the wolfdogs ran towards the hillside.

The wolfdog reached the hillside and soon barked excitedly, its barking filled with joy.

Upon hearing this, the old man knew his dog was indeed on the hillside and rushed up the hill without paying any more attention to Beisitian.

The frown on his face relaxed when he saw the large and small wolfdogs on the hillside.

”Old buddy, you almost scared me to death,” the old man said, squatting beside the wolfdog.

Seeing the old man, the wolfdog wagged its tail happily, brushing the grass beneath it, its big head nudging the old man’s hand, the fierce wolfdog now acting like a spoiled pup.

Beisitian watched this scene, feeling she could finally return home safely.

She looked at the old man, feeling a sense of familiarity, particularly in the memories of the previous body’s owner.

”You’d better give it some food and water,” Beisitian reminded him, then turned to leave without saying anything else.

”Wait a minute!” The old man stood up. ”Did you help my dog give birth to the pups?”

Beisitian pressed her lips together. At first, this statement felt odd, but upon thinking it through, there was nothing wrong with it.

”Yes, I helped it a bit,” Beisitian said, then added, ”It’s getting late. I should go.”

The old man had not said anything else when he saw Beisitian hastily leaving.

He watched her back, lost in thought. His dog had almost had its neck bitten off by a bear trying to save him. Initially, it had no chance of survival. Now not only had it survived, but it had also given birth to a litter!

He had just checked, and the wound on the wolfdog’s neck had closed, no longer bleeding. Such a large wound couldn’t possibly have healed without stitches, yet he found no stitches when he touched it.

Was this young girl responsible? Who among the villages within ten miles has this skill?

Beisitian hurried home. It was already late, and by the time she returned home, it would be dark. If Mrs. Qin asked about it, she wouldn’t have a good explanation. Although she was curious about how the old man raised so many wolfdogs, she couldn’t stay to ask more questions.

Also, she felt familiar with this person, so the previous owner should have seen him before. But this person appeared as if he had been living in the mountains for many years, which confused her.

When Beisitian returned home, Mrs. Qin and Luo Anping were standing at the door, with Luo Anping constantly looking towards the alley entrance. Upon seeing her silhouette appear, he breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said, ”Mom, my sister’s back.”

Mrs. Qin kept a stern face and just snorted.
