I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Little Puppy

Seeing the wolf run away, the villagers thought it had been scared off. Some young men, waving hoes and sticks, shouted loudly, excited as if they had been injected with adrenaline.

Even from a distance, many realized it wasn’t a wolf but a wolfdog. However, they thought if it was a dog, its eyes appeared too fierce!

Beisitian silently sighed in her heart, always feeling like she was being harassed by the wolfdog.

She understood what the wolfdog meant; it was obviously seeking help, likely for the little wolfdog.

Beisitian recalled the last-born wolfdog. After being born, it still had amniotic fluid in its nasal cavity. Had it been born any later, it would likely have suffocated.

Though it wasn’t dead, it didn’t seem optimistic. At that time, she hung the puppy upside down to help drain the fluid from its nose, but it was clearly smaller and weaker than the others.

Beisitian didn’t think about ignoring it; she believed in seeing things through to the end.

The villagers dispersed after the wolf ran away, as few were herding sheep at this time and most were occupied at home. Beisitian ascended the North Slope while no one was watching.

After crossing the North Slope, she saw the wolfdog waiting in the mountain hollow, wagging its tail excitedly upon seeing her.

Beisitian descended the slope and patted its head, ”Now this is more like a dog. Don’t always be so fierce.”

She noticed the wolfdog’s fierce look when facing the villagers’ shouts and curses, making it understandable why it was mistaken for a wolf.

Seeing the wolfdog naturally leading the way, Beisitian hesitated slightly before following it. She carried two packets of stimulating medicine powder that had a strong effect on wolfdogs, as well as a packet of burning talisman powder.

This time, she wanted to meet Zhou Tian. She knew the challenges of living in the mountains and wanted to see what kind of person would venture deep into the mountains for a group of dogs!

Beisitian trusted her eyes more than hearsay, never judging a person based solely on others’ words.

However, the old man’s appearance was somewhat gloomy, so she remained cautious, knowing his greatest weapon might be these wolfdogs. Beisitian didn’t fully trust the disposition of animals, hence her precaution, daring to follow the wolfdog.

This was thanks to her habit of always carrying protective medicine powder with her.

Being near the North Slope, Beisitian was quite familiar. While watching over the sheep, she occasionally roamed here. She thought she would follow the wolfdog for a long while but unexpectedly encountered the old man named Zhou Tian after passing through the hollow.

The old man still wore a gloomy expression, and his triangular eyes looked sharp, making people instinctively frightened.

The wolfdog ran up to him in quick strides, circling Zhou Tian happily.

Seeing the wolfdog, Zhou Tian’s expression softened considerably.

Beisitian was slightly taken aback by this sight.

Zhou Tian’s gaze shifted to Beisitian. He opened his mouth but couldn’t utter a word. His triangular eyes glanced around before picking up a small puppy from the ground and bringing it to her.

”It’s dying,” the old man said.

His voice was very hoarse and he spoke stiltedly, as though he hadn’t spoken in a long time. Beisitian recalled Mrs. Qin mentioning that this man had lived in the deep mountains for over ten years. Could it be that he truly hadn’t emerged from the mountains in those years or communicated with anyone?

Beisitian looked at the puppy; it appeared very weak, although she was not a veterinarian and wasn’t adept at diagnosing animals.

”Has it been fed?” she asked.

Though she wasn’t skilled at diagnosing, she could still make some judgments compared to the person with several wolfdogs in front of her.

Zhou Tian shook his head repeatedly, his triangular eyes looking at her hopefully.

”It’s probably not good,” Beisitian observed, feeling the puppy’s chances of survival were slim.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Tian’s face darkened as he stared at the puppy in his hand.

Tilting her head, Beisitian thought the old man didn’t seem angry, but rather sad.

After a while, Zhou Tian looked at Beisitian and said, ”Help it.”

Seeing Beisitian’s silence, Zhou Tian grew anxious, anxiously presenting the puppy, remarking, ”It’s the only litter it had. If it dies, it will be... heartbroken.”

The ”it” referred to the large wolfdog.

Hearing this reason, Beisitian couldn’t help but meet Zhou Tian’s gaze, seeing sincerity and earnestness in his eyes!

This old man deeply cared about the feelings of the wolfdogs, reminding Beisitian of what Mrs. Qin said: he forsook a normal life for these wolfdogs, leaving the village to live in the deep mountains with them for over ten years!

Humans are social animals, able to live in the mountains for years, yet return to their hometown; how many could endure that for a few dogs?

Beisitian’s eyes flickered. ”I can treat it, but if I succeed, let it guard my home.”

She said this to probe, uncertain if the old man was feigning anything.

Zhou Tian hesitated for a moment after hearing her words, lowering his head to look at the large wolfdog beside him.

Beisitian smiled at this, having already made up her mind. A person seeking a wolfdog’s opinion showed how important they were to him!

She also thought she was becoming more sentimental, perhaps due to the young age of her body. If her master knew she was stingy with a talisman for a life, he would surely reprimand her.

Although Beisitian carried protective medicine powder with her, in her haste to leave, she hadn’t brought any yellow paper and brush.

Thinking for a moment, she said, ”I need to take it back for treatment. Come to the North Slope at around four in the afternoon tomorrow to pick up the puppy.”

Zhou Tian nodded repeatedly, carefully handing the puppy to Beisitian, and watched as she carried it away, then squatted to pat the wolfdog’s head.

It was like an old comrade comforting the wolfdog.

The puppy was only palm-sized. Beisitian had never held such a small puppy, and on her way home, she was cautious, afraid of hurting it with too much strength.

Without making a fuss, she returned home and placed it on the kang, then lined a tattered quilt in her backpack, put the puppy in, and prepared to find a secluded place to perform Spiritual Talisman using yellow paper and brush.

Given the puppy’s condition, the sooner, the better.

Beisitian informed Mrs. Qin she was going to pick wild vegetables and then left.

Fetching wild vegetables and gathering firewood usually didn’t have fixed times; you went whenever you had time. Mrs. Qin didn’t think much of it.

Beisitian chose an eastern place called Skyline—though it was a dead end, few people ventured over.

Finding a sheltered spot, she set down her backpack and took out yellow paper and brush.
