I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Driving Qin Hongmei Mad with Rage

”Blame me for not doing a good enough job with my embroidery, it barely sells for any money. At home, Dad’s health is not good, and Grandma is old. I bought one for each of them. Ping’an was making a fuss about wanting to eat one, so Mom gave him a beating.” Beisitian gently patted Luo Anping’s head.

Luo Anping kept his head down and said nothing.

Qin Hongmei felt a lot of words stuck in her chest, unable to say a single word. What could she say? Who doesn’t know about Luo Er’s family’s situation? White bread is a rarity even in their house. Buying one for the paralyzed father and one for the elderly grandmother, what could she say!

But it was precisely because she couldn’t say anything that made Qin Hongmei feel stifled!

”Then why did you only deliver it now!” Qin Hongmei yelled unwillingly, clearly looking for fault.

”When I returned, Grandma was taking a nap. I was afraid of disturbing her. I went to herd sheep at four and just got back.” Beisitian’s tone was always calm and unwavering, but every word blocked Qin Hongmei, leaving her with no excuse to find fault.

Old Mrs. Luo was holding the white bread, her face full of wrinkles from smiling, repeatedly saying what a good child she was, and how raising her wasn’t in vain.

Beisitian shook her head inwardly, thinking this old lady wasn’t a good mother-in-law. Luo Anguo had been bedridden for so many years, and Luo Er’s family depended on Mrs. Qin for everything, and yet she credited all the achievements to Luo Anguo with just one sentence.

At least Luo Anguo had some sense; otherwise, Mrs. Qin would have nowhere to voice her suffering even if she were to work herself to death.

Upon hearing Old Mrs. Luo praise Beisitian, Qin Hongmei turned red with anger, unable to say a word!

Beisitian gently patted the back of Old Mrs. Luo’s hand, which was holding the bread, and said, ”Grandma, your teeth aren’t good, this white bread is soft, you don’t need to break it into pieces, just take small bites! Uncle and Aunt are young and healthy, you don’t need to worry about them. You’ll be happy, and they’ll be happy too!”

She was afraid that as soon as she left, this bread would be sneaked away by Qin Hongmei.

”Oh, oh, this granddaughter-in-law is truly filial, a good child, a good child, Grandma will definitely eat this white bread!” Old Mrs. Luo laughed so hard her eyes disappeared.

In general, when a mother-in-law has a bad relationship with her daughter-in-law, she gets along well with her granddaughter-in-law. The enemy’s enemy is a friend, of course, this is in most cases, exceptions are not included.

So Beisitian started with Old Mrs. Luo, making Qin Hongmei eat humble pie, using her own way to do unto others as they had done unto her!

Qin Hongmei is like an insatiable blood-sucking mosquito. Since Beisitian came to this house, there’s no way she’ll let her take even a tiny advantage.

Qin Hongmei really wanted to use a broom to chase this little bitch out, the way she talked, as if she was going to steal the old lady’s bread!

”Alright, alright, once you’ve delivered the goods hurry and go, I still have to sweep the yard!” Qin Hongmei glared with wide eyes, grabbed a broom, and began to sweep the yard vigorously, as if that could ease her mind a bit.

Beisitian didn’t stay any longer, pulling Luo Anping away with her.

After leaving the old house, Luo Anping looked up and smiled at Beisitian. She winked at him, signaling not to say anything.

The reason Beisitian delivered the bread so promptly was thanks to Liu Chunyu, who asked if she went to the town and bought white bread when they were herding sheep, which startled her.

Liu Chunyu had unintentionally heard Zhang Lianqiao chatting with the big-mouthed Widow Wang from the same village, saying she envied Beisitian for selling her work well this time and even buying white bread!

Liu Chunyu didn’t have many thoughts. At that time, she purely believed Zhang Lianqiao was genuinely envious and didn’t think of it as creating rumors.

And since the Carpenter Liu family had some skills, Liu Chunyu often ate white bread, so she didn’t mind too much. She listened and forgot about it, only recalling it when she saw Beisitian and mentioned it in passing.

When Beisitian heard about Zhang Lianqiao, she knew something was wrong. She didn’t know how much Zhang Lianqiao saw, but saying it like that certainly wasn’t with good intentions, as there wasn’t just Luo Er’s family in the village but also the old family!

Beisitian hadn’t even intended to deliver bread to the old house. Not to mention Old Mrs. Luo’s past oppressions of Mrs. Qin; when Luo Anguo was bedridden, Qin Hongmei forced Luo Laoda not to take money, and after the family split, Luo Laoda only got a few bucks for medicine, yet Old Mrs. Luo said nothing much.

But given the current circumstances, with Qin Hongmei always wanting to use Old Mrs. Luo to suppress them, Beisitian could only use similar methods in return, after all, filial piety still weighed heavily.

So, she hurried back with the sheep, while Luo Anguo and Mrs. Qin were discussing whether to deliver some bread to the old house. They hesitated because they feared Qin Hongmei, the blood-sucking mosquito, would latch on, leaving them no peace!

Beisitian came up with the idea, delivering only to Old Mrs. Luo while hiding the rest, thus showing filial piety without letting Qin Hongmei take advantage.

Luo Anguo and Mrs. Qin agreed immediately upon hearing this.

That was how Beisitian came to take Luo Anping to deliver the bread.

As for where the bread was hidden, Beisitian placed the bread in the hole under the wardrobe in the west room. When the original owner first arrived here, lacking a sense of security, she pried out a brick herself and put her set of medicine-grinding tools inside, which Mrs. Qin was aware of but never mentioned later.

If this child doesn’t know to hide things, with the attitude of her stepmother, she might very well end up getting married penniless!

This place was only known to Mrs. Qin, not even Luo Anguo knew. The bread was wrapped in oiled paper and old cloth and put in a jar before placing it in the hole, so it wasn’t feared the mice would gnaw at it.

At Luo’s house.

Old Mrs. Luo sat on the kang, tearing the white bread into small bits and putting them into her mouth. Qin Hongmei sat at the head of the kang, occasionally glancing up to see her eating steadily, cursing inwardly.

This old woman, doesn’t she know to share a little!

Qin Hongmei’s eyes shifted, she put down her work, went out, and soon brought in a two-year-old child, her grandson Luo Chengcai!

After bringing the child in, she ignored him and went back to the kang to work, glancing sideways at Old Mrs. Luo’s side.

Old Mrs. Luo continued to eat steadily, even with the little great-grandson in front of her, she didn’t lift her eyelids.

Qin Hongmei seethed with anger, this old thing just knew how to eat!

She put down her work and said, ”Mom, Stone [nickname] is watching you, give him a bite.”

Old Mrs. Luo was muddle-headed, but not when it came to food. She lifted her eyelids, tore a piece the size of a thumb pad and stuffed it into the little child’s mouth, then patted him and said, ”Go on, you’re still young, go to your mother and drink milk. When you grow up, be good and filial to your elder, buy white bread for your ancestor!”

Qin Hongmei’s face darkened slightly, ”Mom, the child’s only two, craving food is understandable.”

Old Mrs. Luo rolled her eyes, ”Craving food! If he’s craving, go and buy some! I’ve raised your man, do I still have to raise your grandson? You don’t know how to be filial to me, but my granddaughter-in-law does! Don’t think I don’t know, you’ve secretly bought white bread several times, and I didn’t even see a crumb!”
