I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The First Xuan Talisman

The process of creating a Xuan Talisman cannot be disturbed. Once interrupted, the talisman fails, and the creator will suffer backlash, some light, some severe; light will consume the spirit, while heavy may pose life-threatening danger.

It was Beisitian’s first time creating a Xuan Talisman in this world, and she must exercise extreme caution. This body can no longer withstand any harm!

Thus, she chose the later part of the night, around one o’clock in the morning, when people are deeply asleep, leaving no worry of disturbance.

Beisitian patiently waited for the time, quietly pushed the door open to step into the courtyard, intending to draw the talisman with the aid of moonlight.

She placed a palm-sized piece of yellow paper on her left palm, gripped a brush with her right hand, took a deep breath, and with a slight tremble of her wrist, seamlessly drew the talisman on the yellow paper as fluidly as flowing water.

For her first talisman creation, she chose the simplest Xuan Talisman which could strengthen the body. When paired with certain foods and herbs, it could replenish vital energy and blood in the shortest possible time, thus enhancing physical fitness.

This shortest time might be two or three days, or it could be two weeks. The effect varies for different people. If a person’s body has a repelling charm, the effect time will be prolonged.

Drawing the talisman is relatively simple; Spiritual Pointing is the final and also the most crucial and difficult step!

The Spiritual Pointing process is where the talisman maker concentrates their spirit to make the Xuan Talisman effective. Many people fail to become a Mystic Doctor because they get stuck at Spiritual Pointing!

The requirements for a Mystic Doctor regarding spirit are extremely high; only when the three are in harmony can Spiritual Pointing be completed!

Beisitian was not a beginner; when she drew the final stroke of the talisman, her eyes, bright like morning stars, suddenly widened. It seemed like something flashed in her pupils, fleeting and so fast that it was impossible to see!

Just as the light flashed in her pupils, the talisman paper fluttered in Beisitian’s palm, then settled back into silence.

Talisman formation!

Beisitian breathed a sigh of relief. After all, she had only been using this body for two months; she really feared failing her first talisman creation. Fortunately, after drinking mushroom soup for half a month, her spirit had recovered a lot. With her previous life’s experience, she ultimately unified her spirit.

Beisitian had prepared a vat of clear water early on. After completing the Xuan Talisman, she placed it above the vat mouth, and it suddenly ignited without fire, swiftly turning into a small handful of grey ashes falling into the clear water.

Beisitian drank the talismanic water, and a faint warmth spread to her limbs, knowing that the Xuan Talisman was working.

Though weak, this body did not exhibit any repelling charm phenomenon; otherwise, as a Mystic Doctor, it would be a great irony. More importantly, it would be a hassle, spending the same amount of time without getting the corresponding effect.

Drinking the talismanic water for two or three days before embarking on a long journey will prevent panting, making up for some vital energy and blood.

The last time she walked back from Qingzhou Town, Beisitian, feeling as energized as if injected with adrenaline, went to herd sheep. Once the excitement wore off, it felt as if her body wasn’t her own; it took a week to fully recover.

Afterwards, just the thought of going to Qingzhou Town again made Beisitian shudder; her physical condition was poor, making her feel exhausted at heart.

If the body is well, everything will be energetic!

For three consecutive days, Beisitian kept creating Xuan Talismans for strengthening the body, her physique improving day by day with very noticeable changes!

After drinking for three days, although Beisitian still hadn’t gained much flesh, her eyes became spirited, her walking steady, and her words carried more confidence.

The change isn’t rapid; Mystic Doctors are revered and admired worldwide precisely because of the mysterious Xuan Talisman. The Xuan Talisman acts quickly without causing any adverse symptoms.

The original owner’s body had been too depleted, which slightly lowered the Xuan Talisman’s effect, akin to the saying that an empty body doesn’t absorb nourishment.

Beisitian prepared to make the next set of Xuan Talismans specifically for replenishing vital energy and blood, not only for body strengthening but also to improve her complexion.

She also wanted to go up the mountain to find some wild produce. Living on nothing but cornbread and salted vegetables, her body received no nutrition, so how could it gain any flesh?

In her memory, the original owner was quite adorable as a child. If she gained some weight and became fairer, she should look beautiful.

Beisitian cared somewhat about this; after all, what woman doesn’t cherish her appearance?

One couldn’t rush the replenishment of energy and blood. It had to be gradual. Relying on the strengthening Xuan Talisman to enhance some physical stamina was actually a process of replenishing energy and blood. Insufficient energy and blood cause uncontrollable sighs, labored breathing, and dizziness when standing up after sitting, all very noticeable symptoms.

Beisitian persisted in drinking mushroom soup. Besides creating Xuan Talismans to replenish energy and blood, she also made some to improve sleep. Otherwise, creating talismans in the middle of the night might still be manageable in the short term, but over time, it would deplete her spirit.

Beisitian drank the talismanic water and immediately returned inside to sleep. She had to leave early for Qingzhou Town the next morning. This time, she again planned to walk, not to save money but to exercise.

Everything is interrelated, and nothing happens overnight!

Upon waking in the morning, Beisitian put an army-green satchel into a blue cloth wrap and left with the package. She planned to bring back some food; a single bundle might not suffice, so she mentioned it to Mrs. Qin, who gave her this army-green satchel.

Last time, it took more than three hours; this time, it only took two to reach Qingzhou Town. Beisitian was happy about the progress.

Arriving at Bao Niang Embroidery Workshop, Beisitian noticed a different woman, around her twenties, sitting behind the counter instead of Xiuling, likely a young wife. Her eyes curved in a smile, more amiable than Xiuling.

As soon as Beisitian entered, the woman stood up and asked, ”Do you need anything?”

The woman gave Beisitian a once-over, her gaze clear, simply observing.

”I’m here to see Sister Bao Li.”

Upon hearing this, the woman’s eyes brightened, and she eagerly asked, ”Are you Little Tian’er?”

Beisitian nodded, it seemed Sister Bao Li had informed her in advance.

”It’s really you, come with me. Our boss said when you come, just directly bring you to her embroidery room! You can call me Chun Ni.” As Chun Ni spoke, she lifted the door curtain to lead her back.

Beisitian entered Zhang Baoli’s embroidery room, where she was busy embroidering in front of the frame.

It seemed to be a door curtain.

Zhang Baoli had been somewhat anxious during this time, as Beisitian hadn’t returned since she left. Although she knew the distance from Kao Village wasn’t short, the time felt too long.

She regretted not retaining Beisitian’s address back then, but had she not returned soon, she was indeed planning to visit Kao Village!

Zhang Baoli worried that Beisitian had been poached by someone else, constantly replaying that day’s transaction scene, regretting deeply. That day, she was indeed foolish; regardless of the handkerchief’s material, the double-sided embroidery’s craftsmanship alone warranted a higher pay, which would ensure Beisitian stayed!

With so much on her mind, Zhang Baoli couldn’t still her thoughts even during embroidery. Upon hearing a noise, she looked up and was overjoyed to see Beisitian!
