Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1533: Chapter 893: Preventive Measures

”Great Grandpa...” Luo Ye leaned forward toward Grandpa, scrutinizing him closely, ”Can I interpret this as you being shy?”

Grandpa glared at her, decided to ignore her, and turned around to walk into the hall.

Luo Ye chuckled softly and tugged at Ye Xuan’s sleeve, ”Do you know when this happened?”

”Probably very recently.” Ye Xuan also found it quite interesting. Nanny Lu had been taking care of Grandpa for so many years without any change in their relationship. Unexpectedly, after staying at the Wen Mansion for such a short time, there was a significant change.

”It seems Wen Mansion is truly a blessed place, with joyous events happening one after another...” Luo Ye pondered and asked in a low voice, ”Will Great Grandpa and Nanny Lu have a ceremony?”

Ye Xuan shook his head, ”With Great Grandpa’s age, he won’t admit any change in his relationship with Nanny Lu.”

The smile on Luo Ye’s face faded.

Indeed, at Grandpa’s age, how could it be possible? Only a few close families know that Grandpa’s health is different from normal people. Although he is nearly a hundred years old, his physical condition is actually similar to someone in their fifties or sixties.

However, this can’t be disclosed to outsiders. If Grandpa really dared to marry Nanny Lu, he would definitely become a celebrity in the country.

Given the background of the Ye Family, how could Grandpa allow such a thing to happen?

”As long as the two can stay together, understand each other, lacking a ceremony might not be such a regret, and...” After a slight pause, Ye Xuan continued, ”Furthermore, if Great Grandpa really married Nanny Lu, the things afterward would really be his headache.”

”Hmm?” Luo Ye looked at Ye Xuan in confusion, ”What are you referring to?”

”What are you two whispering outside about? Aren’t you cold?” Ye Xuan was about to answer when Xing Nong pushed the door open and came out.

”We’re just about to go in now.” Luo Ye quickly went forward, ”When did Qiu’er arrive? Is Demon here too?”

”Not only Demon is here, but Mr. Qu and Male Emperor are also here.” Xing Nong glanced at the time, ”We’ve all been here for fifteen minutes.”

”I was just in the greenhouse.” Luo Ye turned back to explain to Ye Xuan. She had just returned from the greenhouse and saw Ye Xuan and Grandpa walking in front. Had a mischievous thought and quietly followed them, overhearing their conversation.

Actually, after overhearing it, she felt a bit regretful, but since she heard it, she felt it would be wrong to pretend to be deaf and mute, so she popped out.

Of course, most importantly, her relationship with Grandpa was there, so she wasn’t worried that Grandpa would blame her for this.

Besides, if she can’t be honest with family, who can she be honest with? So even if she might be blamed, she would still come out.

”What were you doing in the greenhouse?” Xing Nong asked curiously, ”Is there a new variety? When will you take me to see it?”

”It’s almost New Year, so I had the greenhouse help select some bonsai. They just asked me to go and check if they were okay.” Luo Ye sighed lightly, ”They’ve already checked, and in the nursing home in Sha City, 60% of the elderly will be staying during the New Year.”

Xing Nong pondered, ”Mostly the ones without children?”

”Besides those without children, there’s also a portion of retired single veterans, and then those whose children are abroad, or...” Luo Ye spread her hands, ”I don’t need to explain the rest, right?”

Xing Nong snorted coldly, ”People do things, and Heaven watches. Those who don’t care for their own parents will eventually taste the bitter wine they’ve brewed themselves.”

”Your words remind me of a little story. It’s said there was once a poor family that had a son, worked hard to raise him, and he got married.

But the daughter-in-law was harsh, never treated the elders as people, felt that the elders were an eyesore during meals, and always put two bowls of rice with some cabbage soup, asking the elders to go eat in the yard.

The two elders were straightforward and didn’t want the son to be uncomfortable, so they complied with the daughter-in-law. At first, the son felt uneasy, but over time, he got used to it.

Later, the son had a son too, and meal times became three inside and two outside, and no one thought it was strange.

When the grandson was six, his grandfather passed away, and after the funeral, the grandson carefully placed his grandfather’s bowls in the food cupboard corner.

The daughter-in-law thought the bowls were dirty and took them out to throw away, but the grandson picked them up crying. The daughter-in-law coaxed him, promising to buy a new bowl.

The grandson said he didn’t want a new bowl; he wanted to keep this one for when mom and dad grew old. When the daughter-in-law heard this, she was furious and hit the grandson.

The grandson cried and said, ”Didn’t you say that this bowl is for the old and going outside to eat with it is extra yummy? I just wanted mom and dad to eat deliciously, why hit me?”

Since then, the daughter-in-law dared not let the mother-in-law go outside and eat with a bowl; she no longer mistreated her and took care of her till she reached a ripe old age.

Later, the grandson got married and somehow found those two bowls again, gave one to each of his own parents, saying they should go outside to eat with dedicated bowls.

The daughter-in-law said, ”Child, mom was wrong then, but mom realized her mistake and no longer let your grandma eat outside.”

The little grandson said, you pretend you’re afraid I’ll treat you like this in the future, but I won’t pretend. If you let my grandparents live like that for a few years, then you and my dad will live like that for a few years.

I’ve made a record of these unfilial, non-caring people, and when they’re old, trying to move into Liangyou Nursing Home will be absolutely impossible, even if they offer to pay extra! Humph! What goes around, comes around!”

Xing Nong gave her a thumbs up: ”Luoluo, you’re ruthless. You even thought of this backup plan, I salute you!”

”Yes, Ye’er did the right thing. If there’s any difficulty when implementing it, just speak to the family,” Luo Ye said while telling the story, and even Old Master Wen expressed his support.

”Grandpa, there’s still a long way to go. For the children of these elderly people to want to move in, it will take at least another ten years, no rush.”

”Prepare for a rainy day,” Old Master Wen chuckled, ”Even if I’m not around by then, your uncle and the others can’t shirk their responsibility.”

”Talking about such ominous things during good times, I punish Grandpa by letting him drink two fewer cups at New Year’s!”

”Ye’er, can we change the punishment to something else?”

”No!”

”How about reducing it by just one cup?” Old Master Wen continued to negotiate. He was on traditional Chinese medicine for health adjustments, and Elder Zhuang had granted him a three-day pause during the New Year. However, only allowing him three cups at most, and now Luo Ye was cutting two of them. How could he be happy with that?

”No, just two cups!” Luo Ye showed no leniency at all.

Old Master Wen looked pleadingly at Old Mrs. Wen, ”Don’t look at me, I won’t help you with this. Who told you to say such nonsense on such a happy day?” Old Mrs. Wen quickly waved her hands to refuse.

”Alright, two cups then,” Old Master Wen got up sheepishly, ”I’m going back to the study. Call me when it’s mealtime. Xiao Qi, Xiao Yue, you have fun.

It’s not that I’m unwilling to stay with you, I just fear that if I say too much, even that one cup will be confiscated by Ye’er.”

”The older you get, the less capable you become.” Old Mrs. Wen quipped with a smile, inviting everyone, ”Sit down, ignore him, let’s enjoy ourselves.”

Luo Ye secretly followed Old Master Wen into the study, though it couldn’t be said to be deliberate, there was a bit of intentionality.

”You little girl!” Once in the study, Old Master Wen gently tapped Luo Ye’s forehead, ”Sigh!”

”Grandpa, are you still upset about those two cups?” Luo Ye sat on the chair opposite the old man’s desk, reclining comfortably, ”How about I sneak some into the study for you to indulge in secretly?”

The old man’s eyes lit up, then he gave her a stare: ”Get out! Is Grandpa so hopeless? It’s just two cups of wine, what’s the big deal?”

”I knew it, Grandpa wouldn’t cave for just two cups.” Luo Ye quickly lauded him with a figurative cap.

”Ye’er, the reason I called you in is to give you a heads-up. The visit from your Great Grandpa this time might not be friendly. For others in the family, he might not have the say to criticize.

But with Grandpa and Ye Xuan, there’s no telling he won’t say something unpleasant, so notify them.

If they happen to meet Great Grandpa and hear anything unpleasant, they should be more tolerant and not yield to him.”

”Whether or not I notify them, they should all have good sense.” Luo Ye frowned slightly, ”Grandpa, you mustn’t compromise even the slightest bit.”

”Absolutely, and if he tries to embarrass Ye Family’s Grandpa and Ye Xuan in my presence, I won’t let him off easily either.

I remind you because I don’t want him pulling some petty moves behind my back that might affect the relationship between Ye Family and our family.

The relationship between in-laws is both intimate and delicate. Although we know we don’t get along with your Great Grandpa, misunderstandings in some things can still happen.”

”I understand. I’ll inform them. Grandpa, tell me honestly, have you received some news?

If so, I hope you can tell me, so I can be prepared and think of countermeasures in advance. You should trust that my mouth is quite tight.

You should also trust that I am quite capable of handling it psychologically. If there’s something about me, I hope to bear it myself.”

”Clever kid!” Old Master Wen sighed lightly, ”Compared to you, your elder brother is also a step behind.” He was referring to Wen Yan, the elder of the twins.

”Hehe..., I enjoy hearing that, thank you, Grandpa, for the compliment.”

Old Master Wen smiled wryly, ”Who are you really like, kid? Wen Xin and Luo Zhenggang don’t have this kind of personality, why are you so... unconventional?”
