Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1529: Chapter 890: Return to the Bride’s Family

A night passed without a word, and early the next morning, Mr. Wen sent a message back to Great Grandpa Wen, agreeing to let him stay at the Wen Mansion in Sha City for a while.

That day, Qi Xing and Yue Qin were coming to the Wen Mansion, so anyone from the Wen Family who could skip work did not go, and those who could skip school also stayed home. Little Pumpkin was so eager to stay home and join the fun that he almost threw a tantrum.

”You know you’re only two years younger than Ye’er, think about how she was two years ago, don’t you feel ashamed?” Mr. Wen looked at his little grandson with a face full of disappointment.

”Grandpa, my second sister is a rare genius, can’t compare to her.” Little Pumpkin affectionately helped Grandpa massage his legs, ”Besides, our brothers and sisters are already so capable, missing one more talented person like me wouldn’t matter. Please let me be your and Grandma’s little comforter.”

”Nonsense!” Mr. Wen smacked his head, ”Not progressing means not progressing; where did you get all that nonsense?”

”Grandpa, I’m not a smart one to begin with, and with your smack, I’ll fall even further behind my siblings.”

Little Pumpkin’s exaggerated wail made Wen Ke even more irritated, and she dragged him up and started walking out: ”Go out, don’t create unhealthy noise.”

Originally intending to continue making a fuss, Little Pumpkin saw Wen Ke’s stern face and quickly begged: ”Sis, I was wrong, I won’t annoy you anymore.”

Wen Ke glared at him: ”You’re not annoying just me, but everyone!”

”Right, right, annoying everyone is my fault, why don’t you vent your anger by hitting me?” As he spoke, he stretched his head towards Wen Ke.

”Alright, you are such a troublemaker.” Looking at her brother’s funny antics, Wen Ke felt a sliver of warmth enter her otherwise stifled heart.

Luo Ye came out of Hua Rong’s room and happened to see this scene. With a brief contemplation, she headed back upstairs and dialed Wu Zetian: ”Old Wu, you’re leaving tomorrow, right?”

”Yes, all the visa paperwork is done, why, do you want to see me off?” Wu Zetian’s voice carried a hint of amusement, ”Luoluo, you being like this will move me.”

”Male Emperor...” Luo Ye hesitated, ”Have you spoken to my sister yet?”

”Yes, she knows and she’ll come to see me off tomorrow afternoon...” Wu Zetian’s soft sigh came through the receiver, ”I knew it, you’re definitely not thinking of seeing me off, is Wen Ke’s mood not good?”

Luo Ye felt embarrassed. From the beginning, Wu Zetian selflessly devoted himself to her matters, while she just demanded this and that from him unilaterally. What right did she have to treat him this way? Just because he liked her?

As her thoughts whirled, Luo Ye guiltily apologized, ”Male Emperor, I’m sorry!”

”Hmm?” Wu Zetian paused, understanding her reasoning, ”Luoluo, saying this is senseless, isn’t our relationship closer than that?”

Luo Ye sighed lightly, ”It’s not about feeling estranged, it’s about genuinely wanting to tell you I really went too far.”

”Well, did you call just to repent?”

Luo Ye hesitated for a moment and said, ”Male Emperor, tomorrow I’ll go with my sister to see you off.”

”Thank you.” Wu Zetian’s voice turned serious, ”Luoluo, thank you, I understand what you mean by doing this, rest assured.”

Luo Ye chuckled lightly, ”I wasn’t worried to begin with, I’m not self-infatuated to that extent.”

True friends are like this, you can guess what the other is thinking with near certainty. Luo Ye’s agreement to go to the airport was not to make amends for Wu Zetian but to ensure he wouldn’t be placed in a tough spot.

Given his current relationship with Wen Ke, discussions about marriage were premature. A solo farewell at the airport would bring awkwardness. His departure today could mean an uncertain return; thus, he could offer no promises to Wen Ke yet, as they hadn’t reached that stage. However, if he said nothing, Wen Ke would feel unsettled.

Having Luo Ye there meant that through some probing as an outsider, she could help without forcing Wu Zetian to commit, yet reassure Wen Ke.

As for what ultimately becomes of them, Luo Ye maintained her original stance: if there’s no genuine affection, there’s no need to force a relationship. Such a marriage wouldn’t be happy.

After hanging up, Luo Ye went to find Wen Ke and informed her she’d accompany her to the airport tomorrow. Wen Ke visibly relaxed, with a few waves of amusement in her eyes, ”Ye’er, no need for formal thanks.”

Luo Ye rolled her eyes at her, ”Hmph, if you act polite with me, I won’t recognize you as my sister.”

”What are you whispering about?” Little Pumpkin came over, curious, scanning them closely, ”Tell me too, will you?”

Wen Ke looked at him with a half smile, ”We’re planning to take Little Mi out next week, and perhaps let her know that her favorite Little Pumpkin brother kissed another girl the other day.”

”I won’t listen anymore, you continue talking.” Little Pumpkin quickly retreated in fear, then returned with a defiant comment, ”Yan’er is a child; I merely kissed a flower girl, it doesn’t count.” As he talked, he noticed Qi Xing and Yue Qin bringing Yan’er into the main hall and quickly rushed over, ”Hello Brother Qi, hello Sister-in-law, Yan’er, brother will take you out to play.”

Wen Ke helplessly patted her forehead, ”Ye’er, why do I feel now like Little Pumpkin and Yan Xingnong should be siblings?”

Luo Ye agreed with a nod; one enjoys teasing little boys, and the other likes teasing little girls, indeed these two should be siblings.

Since Yue Qin previously stayed at the Wen Mansion, she felt much more at ease this time and took the initiative to introduce Qi Xing to Mr. Wen and Old Mrs. Wen.

The whole Wen Family was waiting at home, and Qi Xing was deeply moved. He knew very well what kind of family the Wen Family was, and what kind of status they held.

Originally, he thought it would just be Mr. Wen, Old Mrs. Wen, and Luo Ye waiting at home. However, now, including Wen Song, everyone from the Wen Family was waiting in the hall, this respect and attention, how could he not be moved?

”Sorry, I’m late.” As soon as everyone finished their greetings and sat down, Ye Xuan walked in, bringing with him a chilling aura.

Qi Xing quickly stood up and saluted, ”Major General Ye!”

”I’m no longer Major General Ye now.” Ye Xuan smiled and waved his hand, ”If Brother Qi is willing, just call me Ye Xuan.”

”Your rank is still retained, I know.” Qi Xing scratched his head awkwardly, ”You are a legend in our army, I dare not call you by your name, it would cause public outrage.”

Luo Ye smiled teasingly, ”Commissar Qi, it’s only been a few days, and you’ve become so eloquent?”

Qi Xing blushed deeply, stammering and explaining, ”No, what I said is the truth, all true, really, I swear in the name of a soldier, what I said just now is really the truth.”

”Luoluo, don’t make it hard for him.” Yue Qin laughed, helping her husband out.

”Sister-in-law, feeling sorry for him?”

Old Mrs. Wen glared at her granddaughter, ”Ye’er, don’t bully honest people. Qinzi, come sit by grandma, don’t mind that sharp-tongued girl.”

”I better not hang around here unloved, I’ll go check on Great Grandpa.” Luo Ye said as she walked out, and Yue Qin got a little anxious, hurriedly called her, mumbling, ”Luoluo, I didn’t mean it that way, I...”

”Sister-in-law, am I such a narrow-minded person?” Luo Ye turned back and gave her a playful smile, ”By this time, Great Grandpa should be coming in, I’m just curious, going to check, don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”

”I’ll go with you.” Ye Xuan said, striding with his long legs to catch up to Luo Ye.

”Being tall has its advantages.” Eldest Aunt Li Niangying couldn’t help but laugh.

”I’m not short, okay?” Luo Ye muttered as she walked out, and Ye Xuan amusedly ruffled her hair, ”Ye’er, you’re the cutest in front of family.”

”You mean I’m not cute in front of others?” Luo Ye squinted at him, ”Or do you mean I’m not cute in front of you?”

”You...” Ye Xuan ruffled her hair again, holding her as they walked forward, ”You know what I mean.”

”I don’t.” Luo Ye mischievously grinned twice, then suddenly turned serious, ”By the way, Male Emperor is going to the United States tomorrow, I’m going to see him off.”

Ye Xuan nodded, ”Alright, I’ll go too.”

”That’s not what I meant...” Luo Ye felt a headache, ”I mean, about the thing you contacted earlier, how did it go?”

”Is that even a question? They’ve already gone for the consultation.”

”Oh?” Luo Ye was taken aback, ”If that’s the case, why didn’t Wu Zetian tell me?”

”The team went as experts invited by the hospital, he probably doesn’t know yet.” Ye Xuan thought for a moment, then added, ”The Wu Family might not know yet either.”

”Look at my brain.” Luo Ye regrettably patted herself, ”How could I make such a low-level mistake, we’re not seeking credit, how would the Wu Family know so quickly.”

”It’s not a low-level mistake, it’s you being reflexively nervous when with me, just thinking of deliberately finding topics to talk to me about, doesn’t matter if it’s meaningful.” Ye Xuan hit the nail on the head, and Luo Ye blushed, mumbling quietly, ”I didn’t do it on purpose, you also said, it’s an after-effect.”

”Don’t use after-effects as an excuse.” Ye Xuan glared at her, suddenly stopped, ”Ye’er, I’m seriously discussing with you, tomorrow, will you marry me?”

”Tomorrow?” Luo Ye’s eyes widened, reaching out to touch his forehead, ”Are you having a brain cramp, or are you talking nonsense with a fever?”

”I...” A blush flashed across Ye Xuan’s cheeks, ”I said it too quickly, what I meant was... next year.”

”I get it...” Luo Ye looked him up and down, ”You’re not too quick, you’re too nervous, right? Hahaha...”

Ye Xuan was full of embarrassment, was it necessary to be this exhilarated?

”Seeing you make a fool of yourself, I’m quite happy, besides...” Luo Ye put on a stern face, ”Your proposal is way too informal, dismissed!”

”This isn’t formal, it’s a discussion.” Ye Xuan quietly clenched his fist, heaven knows how long he practiced secretly for this, and yet, he still made a blunder in the end. (To be continued.
