Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1530: Chapter 891: Confused and Anxious

”Ye’er, wha...what’s wrong?” After being stared at by Luo Ye with a half-smile, Ye Xuan started to get a bit flustered.

”Nothing.” Luo Ye replied briefly, continuing to walk towards Grandpa’s place.

”Ye’er, what did I do wrong?” Ye Xuan grabbed Luo Ye in a hurry, eyes full of concern, ”Ye’er, I wasn’t disrespecting you, I just wanted to be with you sooner. If you don’t want to, I won’t force it. I’ll do whatever you want...”

Luo Ye glanced at him calmly, interrupting him: ”Got it, let’s go.”

”Ye’er...” Ye Xuan was truly panicked, Luo Ye’s attitude clearly showed she was upset, but what did he do wrong to upset her?

”Ye’er, please don’t ignore me, can you tell me why you’re upset?”

”Ye’er...”

”Ye’er...”

”Are you summoning a spirit?” Luo Ye couldn’t take it anymore and swung a leg at him, but quickly had to pull back—Handsome Ye stood there without moving, if she really kicked him, he would have a fractured or broken shin.

Seeing her like this, Ye Xuan smiled happily, ”Ye’er, you do care about me.”

Luo Ye was left speechless, in what way did she show she didn’t care about him? She glared at him fiercely and slipped into Grandpa’s courtyard.

”Nanny Lu, where’s Great Grandpa?” Seeing Nanny Lu pulling weeds in the small garden, Luo Ye asked casually, but her steps didn’t stop.

Nanny Lu quickly stood up, ”Great Grandpa ate a few frozen pears last night, his stomach got a bit cold, and he got up several times during the night. He’s still asleep now.”

”Did he take medicine?” Luo Ye’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, and Ye Xuan, knowing Grandpa’s character, answered, ”Great Grandpa probably forbade Nanny Lu from telling us.”

Nanny Lu looked gratefully at Ye Xuan, responding, ”Grandpa took medicine before sleeping and instructed me not to mention it at the main house.”

”At his age...” Luo Ye mumbled, not continuing. After all, Nanny Lu wasn’t part of the Wen Family, so it wasn’t her place to say more.

However, regardless of whether Grandpa instructed it, Nanny Lu should have informed the Wen Family, even if Grandpa seemed strong, age is a factor.

”I’m sorry, I...” Nanny Lu stammered, looking self-reproachful, realizing her oversight after Luo Ye pointed it out.

Ye Xuan waved her off, ”It’s okay, you go on with your work.”

Inside the bedroom, Grandpa was sleeping soundly. Luo Ye lifted the blanket, placed a finger on his pulse and, after a moment, let out a quiet sigh of relief, signaling Ye Xuan to head out.

”Xiao Xuan, Ye’er.”

The two had just reached the door when Grandpa woke up.

”Great Grandpa...” Luo Ye turned and quickened her pace to the bedside, chiding, ”Why didn’t you let Nanny Lu tell me last night? Some common ailments, I can treat them.”

”Great Grandpa isn’t that fragile.” Grandpa chuckled, ”I’m aware of my own health. If I felt unwell, I would definitely have Nanny Lu call you.”

”Great Grandpa still keeps me at a distance.” Luo Ye pouted.

Grandpa sat up against the headboard, ”Great Grandpa just thought that a rare case of diarrhea helps detox, making me seem younger.”

”You...” Luo Ye was at a loss, completely defeated by his reasoning.

Ye Xuan brought over a cup of water, ”Great Grandpa, have some honey water. It’s warm, just right for drinking.”

Grandpa glared at him and pulled out the straw from the cup, ”Remove this, I’m not to the point where I can’t drink by myself.”

”Alright, alright, no straw then.” Ye Xuan coaxed like he was dealing with a child, placing the cup at Grandpa’s lips, but Grandpa kept his mouth tightly shut, his gaze turning to Luo Ye.

Grandpa uncharacteristically acted endearing, prompting Luo Ye to quickly take the cup, happily helping him finish the water.

”Great Grandpa, didn’t you say you’re not at the point where you can’t drink for yourself?” Ye Xuan teased, looking at the mischievous old man of his family.

”I rarely get sick, can’t I enjoy being cared for by my granddaughter-in-law?” Grandpa said, glaring at him, ”Useless, still haven’t brought her home for me.”

”Great Grandpa, let Ye Xuan keep you company while I ask Nanny Zhang to make you some porridge. Besides, with me around, Brother Qi and sister-in-law can be more at ease.” Luo Ye said as she escaped quickly.

”Great Grandpa, you scared her off.”

”Rascal, when will you stop worrying Great Grandpa?” Grandpa glared at his smart and decisive great-grandson in business, yet so slow in personal matters, ”Every time you need me to crack the whip, don’t you feel ashamed?”

”Great Grandpa...” Ye Xuan awkwardly scratched his head, ”You also know that I always have a missing piece in this area, constantly aiming for the best to satisfy Ye’er, but it seems like I often mess things up.”

”What’s wrong again?” Grandpa immediately caught the key point.

”It’s just on the way here...” Ye Xuan recounted to Grandpa what he and Luo Ye said, and then, how the other party inexplicably got angry.

”You fool!” Grandpa angrily slapped him, ”Is there anyone dumber than you in this world? Huh? Go, go, go, face the wall and think about your mistakes!”

”Great Grandpa, your body is still weak from the night’s exertion; don’t get too excited.” Ye Xuan said while gently patting Grandpa’s back.

”Go!” Grandpa disdainfully pushed him, ”I’m not choking, what are you patting me for?”

Ye Xuan was baffled: ”Great Grandpa, what exactly did I do wrong? Just tell me directly, don’t make me ponder endlessly and blindly, okay?”

”I wonder if you’re truly foolish or pretending to be. Is there any negotiation in a marriage proposal?” Grandpa was so mad he picked up the massage hammer by the bed and swung it at Ye Xuan’s head.

”I...” Ye Xuan was stunned for a while, then patted his forehead in realization, ”Ah, I really am a fool. At that moment, I just thought to consult with Ye’er first, prepare accordingly, and prevent any awkwardness. Discussing this with her indeed was foolishness.”

”Little Xuan, you’re well aware of Ye’er’s temperament. If she were still undecided, would she tolerate you visiting the Wen Mansion for no reason?

Great Grandpa understands your feelings. Such a significant matter as marriage, you don’t want Ye’er to feel even slightly unwilling, thus you’re always overly cautious.

But you overlooked one thing; marriage isn’t a job. Think about Feng Tianzhi’s way of handling things, Little Xuan, in this regard, you’re far behind him.

Actually, Great Grandpa can put it this way: these days, you’re very concerned about the threat Feng Tianzhi poses to you, so there’s evidence of casualness in your work, but you’ve become more cautious in relationships than before.

You’ve overcorrected, child. If you were a girl, how would you want the other party to act? If you really can’t figure it out, give Qing Zhu a call.

Even though Qing Zhu’s character isn’t exactly like Ye’er’s, girls’ sentiments in these matters are generally alike.”

”I understand, Great Grandpa.”

”Do you truly understand or just pretend to?” Grandpa suspiciously stared at him, ”Don’t overcorrect again, Little Xuan, remember Great Grandpa’s words, you are you, not anyone else, so don’t intentionally imitate anyone.

This isn’t to tell you to keep everything unchanged, but to hope you understand where your shortcomings are to pay attention to them in the future, and where your strengths are to maintain them.

Intentional imitation will lead you to gradually lose yourself, so Great Grandpa advises you to think carefully before deciding what to do.”

”Great Grandpa, I really understand,” Ye Xuan said with an indescribable ease on his brows. ”Before, I was too obsessed.

Many of Feng Tianzhi’s ways made me feel I was lacking in this regard, as Grandpa said, overcorrected.

In the future, I will be myself, and also make myself more decisive in relationships, stopping being hesitant and dragging out matters.”

Grandpa glanced at the clock on the wall and said, ”It’s getting late, help Great Grandpa up. Today can be considered a happy day; it’s not good for Great Grandpa to lay here.” He sighed as he spoke, ”The older you get, the less capable you become. Yesterday, tasted some frozen pears and couldn’t resist.

This indirectly shows that people must accept aging. In my prime, Great Grandpa could eat more than twenty frozen pears without any problem...”

Ye Xuan listened with a black line face, thinking, at his current state, eating over twenty frozen pears wouldn’t be pleasant, let alone at Grandpa’s age.

It seems the saying is true; no matter how old a person gets, they won’t truly feel old, or looking at peers, they might think others are old, yet never apply it to themselves.

”Great Grandpa, why are you up?”

Grandpa had just finished freshening up when Luo Ye walked over with a tray. Behind her was Wen Ke holding a thermos, ”Great Grandpa, please go back and lie down.” Wen Ke said.

Grandpa waved his hand, ”It’s okay, Great Grandpa isn’t that delicate. Why did you bring so much?”

”Just a few light dishes; Coco brought chrysanthemum porridge. I didn’t tell Grandma and Grandpa about Great Grandpa feeling unwell, only said Great Grandpa chatted late with Ye Xuan last night and slept deeply.” Luo Ye said as she placed the food on the table.

Grandpa usually had breakfast in his room; early in the morning, the food was delivered by Nanny Zhang and received by Nanny Lu, so nobody would doubt Luo Ye’s explanation.

”Ye’er indeed is like a worm in Great Grandpa’s belly.” Grandpa smiled contentedly and invited everyone, ”Come, sit down and eat together; it’s not enjoyable to eat alone.”

”Miss Ye’er...” Nanny Lu, standing aside, awkwardly shifted, clearly feeling uneasy because it was a lapse on her part.

”Nanny Lu, why don’t you join us and eat?” Luo Ye smiled at her and handed her a pair of chopsticks. After all, she was an elder by Grandpa’s side, right or wrong, Luo Ye wasn’t in a position to comment much.
