Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1505: Chapter 881_3

The Wen Family’s greenhouse is quite literally named, covering about half an acre, with some flowers that need to be protected during winter placed inside. Two gardeners are responsible for their upkeep.

Luo Ye sent the duty gardener to rest for a while. Having worked for a wealthy family for a long time, the gardener wasn’t naive; he knew immediately from Luo Ye’s tone that she wanted him to avoid something for a while. He quickly expressed his gratitude and returned to the workers’ relaxation area without reluctance.

Once the door was closed, Wen Ke quickly spoke: ”Ye’er, don’t try to persuade me; outsiders can’t help with matters like this. Let me slowly think it over. Once I’ve figured it out, everything will be fine.”

”Who wants to persuade you?” Luo Ye gave her a sideways glance, ”You’re assuming too much. I’ve asked you over to discuss something.”

”What is it?”

”Could you do me the favor of adjusting your expression to look more pleasant? You know, I’ve brought Yue Qin from our home to send her off in marriage; she’s already feeling uneasy. If she suddenly sees your grim face, dropped all the way down to your heels, how do you think she’ll feel?”

”Alright, I’ll be mindful.” Wen Ke stroked her cheeks up and down, let out a heavy sigh, then breathed in and out repeatedly... After a while, her complexion indeed improved greatly, ”Like this, is it okay?”

”Listen, after not talking for a long time, even your tongue has become a bit shorter.” Luo Ye said while scratching her arm, ”Sis, I’m not trying to persuade you; I’m just speaking honestly.”

When someone doesn’t love another, no matter how devastated you become over them, it won’t make a difference. Furthermore, your own despondency and melancholy only create a negative atmosphere, prompting them to want to avoid you even more.

If you really want them to fall in love with you, it’s better to find happiness within yourself. When you become more gentle, bright, and at ease, things might change.

”It’s easy to talk about these truths, but how many actually manage to achieve them?” Wen Ke sighed, ”Ye’er, sometimes I wish I’d never met him, never fallen in love with him. That way, I’d still be the happy me.

But once you step into the realm of emotions, there’s no turning back, and your heart...never quite feels like it used to. The way my heart races like a frightened rabbit makes me... makes me feel really uncomfortable. Do you know how much I wish I could calm down?

Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt’s carefulness and worry—I can see it all. But I just can’t control it; no matter how hard I try, I can’t control it.

And now, whenever I see him joking with other girls, I feel a blockage in my heart. Sigh, I’m really beyond help.”

”Oh?” Luo Ye raised an eyebrow looking at her, ”Who is he close with now? Or should I say, which girl is taking the initiative to approach him?”

”It’s not anyone else’s fault; I caused this myself...” Wen Ke looked frustrated, ”My relationship with him is a bit tense, isn’t it? So I kept bringing my good friend Liu Shanshan along to visit him. I didn’t expect Liu Shanshan to develop feelings for him. Now, the result is Liu Shanshan has fallen out with me, and often goes to see him behind my back. Plus, judging by their demeanor, they are pretty chatty.”

After pondering slightly, Luo Ye realized: ”Once you saw them together, you kept your distance?”

Wen Ke mumbled: ”Am I really that useless?”

”Indeed, just seeing them together makes you sulk by yourself? Sometimes, what you see isn’t always true, nor what you hear. Think about Wu Zetian’s personality; do you think your approach is right?”

”I just felt like it would be embarrassing to walk over and join them. If they really are good together, Liu Shanshan would be so smug, wouldn’t she?”

”Whether she’s smug or not, I don’t know, but you’re visibly down... ” Luo Ye scrutinized her a few times, frowning, ”Last time, Lu Qingqing said that when she started being her true self, she finally got together with Wen Su. You seemed quite touched by that; why did you only feel touched but make no change?”

”Maybe I’m too possessive and insecure.” Wen Ke stared blankly at a blooming azalea for a while and then said, ”At that time, I thought I’d be free to follow my heart.

But when I face him, I can’t help but become nervous. The reason I brought Liu Shanshan along was to avoid giving him any chance to reject me.

After all, when there’s an outsider present, he has to save me some face, at least a bit. I just didn’t expect... sigh!”

”Serves you right!” Luo Ye shot her a glare and dialed Wu Zetian’s number, ”Male Emperor, where are you? Oh?... Oh, it’s nothing serious... Alright, I’m in the greenhouse; come over in a while.” She hung up and looked at Wen Ke, ”He’ll be over in a bit; you ask him yourself.”

”I...” Wen Ke tugged at her clothing, face looking dejected, ”Ye’er, can you help me ask? If... if he doesn’t have me in his heart at all, then just let it be. I’m... I’m really too exhausted.”

”Sis...” Luo Ye looked at her seriously, ”Do you have any grudges against me? Tell me the truth.”

”No!” Wen Ke shook her head without hesitation, ”He liked Ye’er a long time ago; I don’t have the right to be resentful. And I know very well, if he hadn’t liked Ye’er, I wouldn’t have had any chance at all.

Actually, I am aware that there is no possibility between him and Liu Shanshan, but I just don’t dare to ask. Moreover, I suspect that he’s doing it on purpose for me to see, to make me back off.

If that’s really what he thinks, I won’t persist. If a man is that annoyed, why should I keep pestering him?

Sis, at least I’m a beauty, right? How could I possibly have sunk so low as to be proactive and still be despised?”

”You...” Wen Ke’s struggling demeanor made Luo Ye both amused and annoyed, ”Alright, affairs of the heart can’t be figured out immediately. Stop pretending; I’ll help you ask later.”

”I knew Ye’er would definitely help me.” Wen Ke drooped her face, ”Maybe, after today, we’ll just be ordinary friends. But short pain is better than long pain.”

Ten minutes later, Wu Zetian hurriedly arrived, and seeing Wen Ke there, the smile on his face became somewhat awkward.

”You’re here?” Wen Ke greeted him before lifting the curtain and heading out, ”I’m a bit hungry; I’m going to check how soon lunch will be ready.”

”Luoluo...” Wu Zetian rubbed his hands, appearing a bit tense, ”Is it... is it about asking me regarding Liu Shanshan?”

”Looks like...” Luo Ye looked him up and down, ”Looks like there’s really something going on between you and Liu Shanshan?”

”No, no...” Wu Zetian waved his hands repeatedly, ”There’s really nothing between us. I was just guessing because I know Wen Ke and Liu Shanshan have fallen out, so... that’s why I’m asking.”

”Male Emperor, when it comes to your relationships, I have no right to interfere. But right now, I’m here as Wen Ke’s sister, wanting to help her clarify if the answer is whether you have her in your heart or not.” Luo Ye sighed lightly, ”I know it’s irrational to ask this, but she’s my sister, so I must help her.

However, don’t misunderstand; I’m not trying to force you to be with her. Her meaning is, if she really isn’t in your heart, better long pain than short pain, do you understand what I mean?”

”I understand.” Wu Zetian’s demeanor became serious, ”Luoluo, do you know who Liu Shanshan’s sister is?”

”Who?”

”Liu Yumei.”

Luo Ye raised her eyebrows in surprise: ”Yuanzhou Mine’s Liu Yumei?”

”Yes.”

”From what I know, she’s the only girl in her family, and then she has a brother. When did a sister suddenly appear?”

”Liu Shanshan is Liu Yumei’s twin sister. Liu Shanshan’s father is Liu Yumei’s father’s biological younger brother, and since he had no fertility, he took one of the children from his brother.”

”Alright, I understand, but what exactly do you want to tell me with this?” Implying that even if Liu Shanshan is Liu Yumei’s sister, it doesn’t warrant special treatment from Wu Zetian.
