Chapter 2596: Chapter 2596: The Medicine Is So Bitter

”Come in.” The middle-aged woman stepped aside and invited them inside.

”Let’s see your mother right away.” Yu Qi said.

The middle-aged woman nodded and led Yu Qi and Nurse Shin Teng to a room.

”Mother, a TCM practitioner is here and wants to check your health.” The middle-aged woman said as she knocked on the door before opening it.

When the middle-aged woman opened the door, Yu Qi and Nurse Shin Teng were surprised by what they saw inside the room. It was filled with succulent plants.

”My mother loves these plants. She liked to admire them all the time. That is why the room is full of succulent plants.” The middle-aged woman explained.

The old woman sensed that someone was in the room. So, she slowly opened her eyes. She was surprised to see several strangers standing inside her room.

”Who are they?” The old woman asked her daughter-in-law.

”They come to check your condition.” The middle-aged woman stated.

”No... No... I don’t want to see doctors.” The old woman shook her head.

”Mom, they are not the modern doctors. They are TCM practitioners.” The middle-aged woman explained to her mother.

”Really?” The old woman sounded sceptical.

”Of course. I know you don’t like the modern doctors. So, I invite TCM practitioners to check your condition.” The middle-aged woman said as she tried to convince her mother.

”Then, let’s check your body.” Yu Qi said as she stepped forward.

The middle-aged woman stepped back, giving Yu Qi the space.

”Old Madam, let me read your pulse first.” Yu Qi said.

She reached out for the old woman’s hand and began checking her pulse. She spent almost three minutes reading it carefully. After that, she also gently pressed the old madam’s joints in her arms.

”Old Madam, you have diabetes, arthritis, and high blood pressure.” Yu Qi said.

”You really know that just by reading the pulse?” The middle-aged woman asked in surprise.

”Madam, it is not only from reading the pulse. I also check other conditions.” Yu Qi explained.

”It can easily be controlled by the medicine. But I am sure that the old madam dislikes taking her medicine.” Yu Qi stated.

The middle-aged woman sighed softly and leaned closer, whispering into Yu Qi’s ear. ”Yes. I don’t know what to do anymore. We brought her to the hospital two weeks ago. She was unconscious at that time. Otherwise, she would make a fuss about it .”

”Did the doctor give the prescription medicine?” Yu Qi asked.

”Yes, he did. He told me that my mother has to take the medicine. But after she found out that it was Western medicine, she refused to take it.” The middle-aged woman explained.

”Well, I have a plan.” Yu Qi said.

Yu Qi turned to the old woman.

”Old Madam, I will apply acupuncture to your body.” Yu Qi said.

”Acupuncture? Is that when many needles pierced into my skin?” The old woman asked cautiously.

”Indeed.” Yu Qi nodded.

”I don’t want. It looks painful.” The old woman shook her head.

”It is the treatment. You have to endure it.” Yu Qi stated calmly.

”I will just drink the medicine.” The old woman said quickly.

”I see. But you need to drink three bowls of medicine, day and night. Are you willing to do that?” Yu Qi asked for the confirmation.

”Yes... Yes... I don’t want to be pierced by the needles.” The old woman hurriedly agreed.

”Alright. You make the promise. I will go and prepare the medicine first.” Yu Qi said with a faint smile.

Yu Qi turned to the middle-aged woman.

”Madam, can I borrow your kitchen?” Yu Qi asked.

”Yes... I will help you. Our kitchen still uses the old stove that requires firewood.” The middle-aged woman said.

”Sure. Thank you.” Yu Qi replied.

They went to the kitchen. Yu Qi opened the bag that she had brought with her. Inside the bag were many small packages. When Yu Qi opened the packages one by one, the middle-aged woman was surprised to see the herbs.

Yu Qi asked the middle-aged woman to start the fire. She then began preparing the medicine. One was for high blood pressure, one for arthritis, and the last one was for diabetes. One by one, the medicines were carefully prepared.

The middle-aged woman was surprised by the smell. Even she could sense that the medicine would be extremely bitter just by smelling it.

Yu Qi asked the middle-aged woman and Nurse Shin Teng to bring the medicine to the old woman’s room. When they entered the room carrying the medicine, the bitter smell immediately reached the old woman’s nose.

”Old madam, the medicine is ready. You can drink them now.” Yu Qi stated.

They placed three bowls of medicine on the bedside table. The old woman looked at the medicine. The colour was very black, and the smell was also extremely strong.

”Do I really need to drink the medicine?” The old woman asked, still hoping to avoid it.

”Yes. You have to drink them, day and night.” Yu Qi said.

After a moment of consideration, the old woman finally made a decision. She slowly reached out for the bowls. She encouraged herself and began drinking the medicine.

”It is so bitter.” The old madam whined.

”Mom, it is your choice.” The middle-aged woman said. ”You need to finish all of the medicine.”

The old woman tried to finish the second bowl.

”I can not do it.” The old woman said as she finally gave up.

”Old madam... Your health might decline if you don’t take the medicine.” Yu Qi stated.

”Mom... Didn’t you say you wanted to see your grandson go to university? You need to be able to get up and stay healthy.” The middle-aged woman added.
