The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 545 - 287 Face the Gale!
”You first tell me, how did you make that last prediction?” To ensure he wouldn’t misspeak, Jiang Shu wanted to confirm with Su Xiaoou.

The initials ”JS” were printed on the clothes and predicted Li Yuntang’s first name’s initial perfectly; undoubtedly, this was extremely difficult to achieve using conventional methods.

And there were many unconventional methods, Jiang Shu wasn’t sure if Su Xiaoou used the one he described.

After all...

It seemed she hadn’t learned that yet.

”It’s just...” Su Xiaoou scratched her head, then somewhat sheepishly said, ”I guessed.”

”Hmm, how did you guess?” Jiang Shu didn’t find Su Xiaoou’s answer unreliable; rather, he felt it aligned more closely with his line of thinking.

”It’s just... I saw the visitor log in the theater earlier and spotted Li Yuntang’s name, so I knew Li Yuntang had recently come to see you,” Su Xiaoou said.

”So, what you asked Li Yuntang at that time was...” Jiang Shu recalled Su Xiaoou’s words, ”the name of the person you’ve been focusing on and in contact with.”

He thought for a moment and briefly commented, ”It could count as a form of ’multiple realities,’ but it’s not overt.”

”Multiple realities...” Su Xiaoou heard a new term and was momentarily stunned; she seemed to have never heard of this term, though she did hear something similar, ”multiple interpretations?”

She tilted her head to look at Jiang Shu, could the teacher have said it wrong?

”No, no, no, they are different,” Jiang Shu shook his head. ”I’ve told you about multiple interpretations, where, regardless of the audience’s choice, the magician has a set of explanations to maintain the magic effect. As for multiple realities, haha, it seems I never taught you that.”

Jiang Shu scratched his head and chuckled.

There were so many principles of magic; how could he ever cover them all, and when it came to Spirit Magic, it was even more complicated—almost entirely about designing the magic act. He came up with them on the spot; to explain them all in one breath...

Nobody could manage that.

After all, who systematically learns magic; don’t most people self-learn and gradually understand as they perform?

So, it wasn’t his fault.

Su Xiaoou suddenly looked frustrated.

She initially thought that Jiang Shu had already taught her most of it, and she just needed to deeply study and practice on her own.

Now, looking at it.

Haha.

What semi-public prediction, what multiple realities, and those textbook examples of misdirection Jiang Shu had performed on stage earlier.

Teacher, how much more do you know!?

Jiang Shu’s performance always had an inherent sense of completeness, as if he truly could do anything and didn’t need to worry about failing.

As for her...

This time, the performance was fortunately perfect; she found it hard to imagine her own failure.

There were too many points in the magic act prone to error, and any mistake at those points was a result she didn’t want to face.

For instance, Jiang Shu usually used ”peeking” as the highlight of the entire act, so even if he didn’t see, it wouldn’t matter, but she made ”peeking” the core of this act, and if she failed to see, even with a backup plan, it would be hard to achieve a perfect performance again.

For instance, if Li Yuntang couldn’t understand the rules she narrated in a short time, imagining the magic process might become confused, leading to inconsistency in the answers; even if they redid it, it would be beyond remedy, throwing the entire magic act’s rhythm into chaos.

And for instance, if Li Yuntang hadn’t written ”JS,” then the trick to ignite the entire atmosphere would have been lost.

But overall, her luck during this entire magic act was good, everything developed as she had anticipated.

”So what exactly is this ’multiple realities’?” Su Xiaoou pursued her interest, her curiosity about the principles of magic was very strong.

”Multiple realities, this thing, is basically only performed on stage, best when facing multiple audience members,” Jiang Shu continued, pondering and formulating his explanation.

Fortunately, his command of language was quite solid, allowing him to clarify these terms from the magic realm, as the teaching system in magic really isn’t perfect.

”First, achieving the effect of multiple realities requires meeting two criteria.” Jiang Shu raised a finger, ”One, the magic act needs a volunteer to come on stage, and it’s generally Spirit Magic; second, using special means, the chosen volunteer receives different information from the rest of the audience, achieving a magical effect.”

”Hmm?” Su Xiaoou blinked, her overall abilities had improved a lot after six months of learning, including her reading comprehension, so after mulling over what Jiang Shu said, she understood the implications.

However, understanding the meaning was one thing; she needed an example for deeper comprehension, thus she turned to ask, ”For example? Do you have any examples? Have you used it in your previous magic acts?”

”Let me think.” Jiang Shu furrowed his brows and pondered for a while, but soon gave up, ”Maybe not.”

He really didn’t feel like recalling, as his use of multiple realities mostly involved direct speech, which was simpler and more effective, and employing speech had become his instinct; it was normal not to remember clearly.
