The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 515 - 276: The Counterattack of Sages Group_2
These comments were pushed to the forefront, and what chilled the chairman even more was that, through this string of comments, he hardly saw any that were joking. It could be said that the video had fully mobilized the tempo of online public opinion, uniting netizens who had never been united before.

Even not a single skeptic could be seen, or perhaps there were some, but they were instantly overwhelmed and their comments deleted by righteous and angry netizens.

A sense of unease began to grow in the chairman’s heart, as the situation had developed beyond his control.

At this time, a Simulated Light Screen in front of him lit up again, this time with a message from the head of the supervision team.

Supervisor: I’ve accessed the surveillance footage, the police officer called out ”Gary” at that time, and I’ve sent the clip to you, sir.

Supervisor: Additionally, I’ve reinterrogated Hughes, and he’s told everything. The origins of the Cleaner who attacked you are unknown, but that half-mechanical man is Rift, a self-proclaimed righteous thug. It was indeed Hughes who contacted Rift to attack you, and regarding the police station... they seemed to want to capture Rift so they contacted Hughes and promised to take you down.

Upon seeing this message, a light bulb went off in the chairman’s mind, and he quickly opened a certain page on the Simulated Light Screen, the official page of the police station.

After some searching, he quickly found the table of police officers over the years.

”Gary... Gary... Gary...,” the chairman repeated the name while searching for a similar-sounding name on this table.

Suddenly, he found the name he was looking for.

”Gary, 23 years old, employed for five years...” the chairman read the information after the name, ”Status: Missing.”

He blinked, and then his eyes filled with wild joy: ”Missing!”

The chairman swallowed hard, then paced back and forth in front of the desk, seemingly having realized something, repeatedly muttering, ”I understand now, I understand now, I understand now...”

Firstly, Rift was Gary, the person who had disappeared from the police station.

Secondly, the real purpose of the police coming to the company was actually for Rift Gary, intending to arrest him.

Lastly, they were using Hughes as bait to lure Rift Gary into the trap, and it was on Rift Gary that Hughes had placed all his hopes, thus Rift Gary came to attack.

But where did that Cleaner come from?

Moreover, this arrest wasn’t communicated with Sages Group, as the police station also targeted Sages Group.

This video now explained some issues.

But...

After figuring all this out, the chairman didn’t fall into the panic of being targeted but instead grew more exhilarated.

Since that was the case, there was a great possibility of turning the tables, because from beginning to end, the police station had been on a completely wrong path.

Just a proper guide and a Change were needed.

The chairman slowly exhaled a breath of stale air and sat back in his chair, resuming the aloof demeanor he typically displayed.

Then, he opened his wristwatch, found a contact, and dialed the phone.

——

Thirteen District Police Station.

In a small single room, Jiang Shu lay in his chair, silently pondering.

It was a very simple task, so why had it turned into the current mess?

Where exactly had things gone wrong?

The doorknob turned, and Wolf slipped into the room from outside.

There was only Jiang Shu in this small room, accompanied by a Tablet Spirit.

”How is it? What’s the situation now?” Seeing Wolf coming in, Jiang Shu looked up at him and asked in return.

”Not very clear.” Wolf simply shook his head, ”But one thing is for sure, this mission was a complete failure, the plan to capture Gary failed, and it caused such a big commotion.”

”Hmm.” Jiang Shu nodded as well, then furrowed his brows, ”Indeed, it failed, but there’s something I’ve been puzzled about—why those guards appeared there and just happened to save the president.”

”You’re right, I’ve been contemplating that too.” Wolf’s face showed a puzzled expression, ”The president shouldn’t have known about our plan, but he didn’t seem surprised by our presence.”

He hesitated for a moment before continuing, ”So, I suspect someone leaked the information.”

”I was thinking the same,” Jiang Shu agreed, ”Two possibilities, either someone inside the police station leaked it, or someone within Sages Group found out.”

”It wasn’t the police.” Wolf shook his head, dismissing that notion, ”If it were a police officer who had tipped them off in advance, the president wouldn’t even need to come out that door, he could’ve just had the guards take the two of us away. Besides, he didn’t seem to know about Gary’s intention to arrest him.”

He added another point, ”And Old Tang is shrewd, he definitely wouldn’t let there be a mole within his police station.”

”That means he found out about the message mid-way,” Jiang Shu deduced what Wolf had left unsaid, ”It’s most likely someone from within the company.”

Thinking about this, he inevitably thought of the scene he had witnessed earlier in Building B.

That fierce-looking thug had taken Hughes into a small room.

”It must have been Hughes who revealed it,” Jiang Shu said gravely, ”I saw him being taken away by someone from Sages Group, perhaps they had discovered something.”

”Hughes?” Wolf was stunned when he heard that name, ”If he was taken away for interrogation, it’s indeed possible that he told them...”

”No.” But then Wolf immediately contradicted himself, ”No, if Hughes had told them, why would the president still dare to show up? Knowing that Rift might target him and still stepping out of that office? Was he seeking death?”

”What if...Hughes concealed some details?” Jiang Shu seemed to clarify something as his face revealed a trace of understanding, ”He hid the Rift situation while revealing the police station’s, luring Sages Group to attack us and provide cover for Rift, meaning, he trusted Rift more than us.”

”In that case...” Wolf, too, appeared to have realized something, his eyes widened in a sudden revelation but then became more confused, ”He deliberately leaked information to Sages Group? But...why?”

Hughes’s leak to Sages Group inherently involved deception. If he could deceive, why didn’t he conceal the police station’s part as well?

It seemed that the only reason left was that Hughes was leaking on purpose, betraying the police station.

”Who knows why, maybe he thought this was the only way to protect Rift, to get Rift to help him take revenge,” Jiang Shu shrugged and sighed, ”And yet, it was this very action of his that not only led to our failure, but Gary almost didn’t make it out either.”

”Oh right.” This reminded Wolf, and he looked at Jiang Shu puzzledly, ”When Gary bumped into you, why weren’t you harmed at all? And afterwards, when I was knocked unconscious, it seemed like you were the one who carried me away? How did you do that?”

”Asking a Magician for his secrets is impolite,” Jiang Shu simply revealed a mysterious smile.

”I see.” Wolf chose to ignore Jiang Shu’s words and started imagining on his own, ”Gary must have protected you, and as for afterwards...it was actually me who carried you away, but I was just dizzy after the beating, and lost my memory.”

”Yes, you’re right,” Jiang Shu only curled his lips, letting Wolf continue imagining a logical explanation.

Then, he looked at the two tufts of hair sticking up on Wolf’s head, which resembled two small black dragon horns, and couldn’t help but flick them.

Naturally, beneath that hair were ”horns” that belonged to Wolf, which were now being vigorously nailed by Jiang Shu, causing him to suddenly clutch his head and cry out.

”Police Chief Wolf, Mr. Jiang.” At that moment, a police officer walked in and quickly said to the two men, ”Sorry, Police Chief Tang has asked me to escort you both out.”

”Leave?” Wolf was confused.

”Yes, he has ordered me to take both of you back to Seventh District,” the officer stated formally, ”We need to leave as soon as possible.”
