136 Eerie Cries
It was impossible to see anything inside the dark bedroom. Chen Fan slapped his right hand on the wall and the incandescent lamp brightened up the entire room. Yun Meng was curled up on the bed and holding onto the quilt with a pale face filled with horror. Her trembling slender finger pointed at the darkness outside the window as her teeth chattered like a hardworking woodpecker.

”Out...o-outside…”

”Don’t panic, what exactly happened?” Chen Fan quickly walked to the window and looked outside. Other than the pattering raindrops, there was only the occasional lightning in the darkness outside the window. Chen Fan observed for a long while near the window and did not see anything suspicious. The district’s security system was very good, so there shouldn’t be any ignorant or loathsome pests here committing crimes.

”I heard... I heard a woman howling.” With bare shoulders, Yun Meng trembled as she curled inside the white silk quilt.

”A woman howling?” Chen Fan’s first reaction was a stray cat in heat. He had been frightened by one before when he was young. That sound was indeed terrifying, and Chen Fan had even been frightened to tears.

Therefore, he naturally thought that Yun Meng mistook the sound of a cat in heat as a woman howling. Just as Chen Fan wanted to console Yun Meng, what Yun Meng said suddenly made Chen Fan’s hair stand.

”No, it’s not a cat’s scream.” Yun Meng’s big pretty eyes were so filled with fear, that she didn’t even notice that Chen Fan was only in his boxers.

”Cats usually only make calling sounds in spring. It’s late autumn now, and that sound was not from a cat.” Yun Meng who had been living in remote areas for over 10 years had greater understanding on habits and sounds of animals than Chen Fan. In fact, Yun Meng could even tell the gender of the cat just by listening to it’s calling sound when in heat.

Eerrr...ahhh...yaahhh…

Suddenly, a series of sharp screaming sounds pierced through the glass barrier and exploded in Chen Fan and Yun Meng’s eardrums!

What kind of sound was it exactly? It was as if there was a demoness in a deep valley sending out desperate and shrilling yells.

”Ah!” The terrified Yun Meng screamed again, hiding her head in her arms and trembling all over. Anyone who saw her would definitely think that she saw a demon.

”Don’t be scared, don’t be scared.” Although Chen Fan was also frightened, as a man he could only grit his teeth and suppress the fear inside him. Chen Fan now also understood that it was definitely not the calling sound of a cat.

It was impossible for a cat to produce this kind of shrill cry, which could overshadow the sound of raindrops outside and pierce through the glass barrier, and could be heard clearly in the bedroom. Moreover, judging from its tone and frequency, the sound definitely surpassed the limits of the sounds a cat could make.

Seeing the way Yun Meng was trembling, Chen Fan rushed out immediately and grabbed the Kunwu dagger from under his pillow. Clang! He withdrew the blade, which had an air of swiftness and ferocity.

”This must be someone’s mischief. Don’t be scared, don’t be scared.” After rushing back into Yun Meng’s bedroom, Chen Fan pulled her into his arms and stroked the back of her head with his left hand, as though he was stroking a kitten. His calm and composed look made the shaken Yun Meng gradually regain her cool.

There was a saying that artefacts can ward off evil. Although Chen Fan did not believe in supernatural beings, he definitely felt much more confident with an artefact in his hand.

”What... what’s that?” Yun Meng curled up in Chen Fan’s arms and did not even dare to open her eyes.

”I’ll go out and take a look. You stay here and don’t move!” Chen Fan said solemnly as he stared outside the window with dagger eyes.

”No…” Yun Meng grabbed Chen Fan’s arm tightly, and her shiny black hair shook rapidly.

Eerrr...ahhh...yaahhh…

Another shrilling howl came, and Yun Meng wished she could embed her delicate body on Chen Fan’s chest. The surrounding air seemed to stand still. Chen Fan stared outside the window without moving at all, his right hand grabbing the dagger in front of his chest, and his left hand stroking the back of Yun Meng’s head.

What the f*ck is it exactly? Chen Fan cursed silently. It sounded so mournful as if the throat was stuffed with glass, yet it was so sharp and loud. It was definitely not from a human being. The most terrible thing was that the sound came from the bottom of the window.

”Lion...tiger...wolf...leopard…” Chen Fan eliminated the large beasts he could think of one by one. As for supernatural beings, Chen Fan felt that there wasn’t such a possibility.

”Yun Meng, be good, let go of me. I’ll go outside to take a look.” Thinking that this couldn’t go on, Chen Fan gently shook his left arm and moved his chin close to Yun Meng’s exposed ear.

”No...no…” Yun Meng almost cried out. She was like a drowning person grabbing onto a life-saving straw, unwilling to let go of Chen Fan’s arm no matter how many times he repeated.

Eerrr...ahhh...yaahhh…

The shrilling cry came almost every 30 seconds, sending shivers down Chen Fan’s spine, not to mention Yun Meng’s. There was lightning and thunder outside, in addition to the pouring rain. Chen Fan did not carry any hope that the security outside could hear the eerie cries. In fact, even when Chen Fan passed by the door just now, he didn’t hear the cries from the bottom of the bedroom due to the rumbling thunder, let alone the security guards who were probably somewhere hiding from the rain.

After a series of deafening rumbles of thunder, the light in the bedroom suddenly went off, and Chen Fan’s heart suddenly clamped. It was past midnight, with lightning and thunder, plus the ghostly cries. He would be lying if he said that he wasn’t scared. If Yun Meng wasn’t there, Chen Fan would definitely quickly put on his clothes and run out.

”Brother Chen Fan, why... why did the light go off?” Yun Meng felt a change in brightness in her closed eyelids. Trembling, she quickly opened her eyes and then shut them again.

”The Power Supply Bureau probably cut off the electricity!” Chen Fan forced out a laugh as he felt the delicate body separated by a layer of velvet quilt in his trembling arms. ”When there is lightning at close-range over here, the Power Supply Bureau will cut off the electricity supply of many districts after twelve midnight to prevent the lightning from damaging the entire circuit network.

Eerrr...ahhh...yaahhh…

The creepy howling sound came again. Yun Meng didn’t say anything, but coiled her whole body on half of Chen Fan’s body and buried her head into Chen Fan’s arms. Now that there was no more lighting, Chen Fan didn’t dare to go out to check anymore. He could only hypnotize himself by repeating, ”It’s not a ghost, it’s not a ghost…”

--------

It was midnight during late autumn, and there was a thunderstorm outside, so the room temperature was very low, around 13 degrees. Chen Fan had just showered and was not wearing much, therefore, his skin, which was exposed to the air, gradually turned cold. With Chen Fan’s current physique, he might not necessarily catch a cold, but the feeling of cold was unavoidable.

Yun Meng’s entire body including her head was curled inside the quilt, but her exposed arm which was on Chen Fan could feel the temperature of his skin very well. After struggling with the idea for two minutes, Yun Meng finally mustered her courage and did something she never dared to imagine! Withdrawing the hand on Chen Fan, Yun Meng held a corner of the quilt and quickly pulled it over Chen Fan before cuddling herself into Chen Fan’s arms like a kitten.

There was a rumbling of thunder, and a flash of lightning shone on Chen Fan’s astonished face.

Eerrr...ahhh...yaahhh…

At that moment, Yun Meng’s strong fear was temporarily driven off by endless shyness. A dreamy color of rouge spread to a large area from Yun Meng’s slender neck, quickly covering a pair of elegant ears.

Chen Fan’s actions were extremely straightforward. Letting go of the Kunwu dagger in his right hand, which was outside, his palm went past Yun Meng’s waist and gently laid on her burning tummy. That wasn’t all. Chen Fan’s left arm went over Yun Meng’s neck so that her face rested in the crook of his arm, and his right leg stretched across her slender legs.

At that moment, the surrounding air seemed to be sweet-smelling. Chen Fan had just bathed, and even used ”Head & Shoulders” plus ”Johnson’s Baby Wash.”

Because of her shyness, Yun Meng’s burning body kept exuding a sweet creamy scent. Chen Fan was in his boxers, and Yun Meng was only wearing white cotton shorts and a white tube top. At that moment, the sounds of raindrops, thunder, and howling seemed to be suddenly isolated from the beautifully embroidered velvet quilt.

Yun Meng’s eyes were bright and clear, and her ears seemed to be temporarily deaf. She couldn’t sense any external noise, feeling only endless bashfulness!

Yun Meng’s smooth skin seemed to possess countless strong electric charges, greatly stimulating Chen Fan’s nerve endings. Within two seconds, Chen Fan had a physiological reaction, and even the breathing sound in his throat gradually became heavy.

Suddenly, intricate expressions such as blushing, disbelief, and sheer fantasy flashed across Yun Meng’s face one after another. Her pupils dilated to the extreme, and her body was stiff like Venus casted in marble.

The culprit of all these wasn’t Chen Fan’s physiological reaction, but because Chen Fan’s palm which was on her burning tummy gradually moved to her chest. Her heart became the territory of Russia’s fragmentation, breaking, restructuring, and then breaking into pieces again. Her tensed body slowly, unconsciously became pliant and weak.
