Reborn As a Snake, I Can Absorb Fear

Chapter 139 Los Angeles DestructionThe disaster in the city had not yet ended; Jiang Feng’s serpentine body crawled toward the other side of the city.

He passed over a bridge, his serpentine body advancing only a few dozen meters.

The massive concrete-poured piers cracked and collapsed like crackers.

But this did not affect Jiang Feng, and he continued crawling along the bridge.

When he had advanced a hundred meters, the steel trusses emitted a piercing shriek, twisting and deforming under the pressure of Jiang Feng’s serpentine body.

At two hundred meters, the main cables snapped, and the center of the entire bridge began to plummet.

When Jiang Feng crawled to the center of the bridge, the fall accelerated, and the roadway slabs shattered, rolled up, and fell in sheets.

All the steel cables snapped, and the bridge towers crashed down under the pressure, slamming into the river.

The process seemed long, but in reality, it took only a short dozen seconds for Jiang Feng’s kilometer-long serpentine body to slide across.

All that remained on the river were broken steel and the reinforced concrete debris on both banks.

From the collapse to the disintegration, the entire bridge lasted no more than twenty seconds.

On the other side of the city, there were very few people left who were still lingering in the city.

Those who dared to continue lingering after witnessing the scene of the other half of the city being destroyed—

—were either mentally unstable or determined to seek death.

Los Angeles was too large; even though Jiang Feng’s speed of destruction had increased several times over, the time consumed had not decreased compared to San Francisco.

The growth rate of fear points had obviously dropped significantly.

Jiang Feng glanced at the fear points on his body; it started with a two.

This wave had earned him over two hundred million fear points.

The decrease in fear points caused Jiang Feng to lose interest in destroying the city; he no longer put in the effort to not miss a single corner.

Instead, he destroyed buildings at random.

Unknowingly, night had fallen.

Jiang Feng stopped his actions, and the city at this moment was pitch black.

Only a few places that hadn’t been crushed by Jiang Feng were glowing with fire; these were the secondary urban disasters—fires—triggered during Jiang Feng’s destruction process.

Because Jiang Feng’s body weight was so great, he had pressed many things directly into the ground, so compared to San Francisco, the fires in Los Angeles were actually much smaller.

The destruction of Los Angeles shocked the whole world once again. If it could be said that San Francisco was destroyed because the USA was caught off guard—

—then Los Angeles was destroyed while the USA watched helplessly.

The USA’s second-largest metropolis, the economic lifeline of the entire western USA, had been destroyed just like that.

This was equivalent to destroying the wealth of an entire Germany.

Everyone was asking what was wrong with the USA; as the hegemon of humanity, they were actually completely helpless against a snake.

Office of the Director of the Mystery Bureau of the Dragon Kingdom.

Director Xia Weiguo and Secretary Song Qingya looked at the news in silence.

”What is your take on this?” After a long time, Director Xia Weiguo spoke up.

”Director, since the decision has been made, we cannot have a heart of mercy; we cannot turn back.”

”But, there were also many of our compatriots in Los Angeles who died in this disaster.” Director Xia Weiguo always felt some misgivings; the Big White Snake’s murderous nature was too heavy.

”Director, accidents will always happen. They chose not to return at this time; this is a consequence they must bear themselves.” Although Secretary Song Qingya sympathized with those people, it would not change her stance.

Choosing to give up the friendship of the Big White Snake or become enemies with the Big White Snake for the sake of those people would be a foolish act.

She could not understand some of the thoughts of the higher-ups; she only knew that befriending the Big White Snake was the most beneficial thing for the Dragon Kingdom. This was a notion that had already sprouted in her heart since the first time she went to Su City.

She was the first person to study the behavior of the Big White Snake. From the Big White Snake’s performance in Su City, it was clear that it had deep bonds and feelings for the Dragon Kingdom; even when the Military wanted to capture it back then, it had never killed anyone.

However, a cold glint flashed in Secretary Song Qingya’s eyes. She knew she could not represent the Dragon Kingdom; there must be people in the Dragon Kingdom who hated the Big White Snake, and quite a few at that.

Those people were the stumbling blocks of the Dragon Kingdom; if they were not removed, it would be impossible to truly live in harmony with the Big White Snake.

Whether from the perspective of being a friend to Su Ling or from her original stance, she would firmly stand on the side of the Big White Snake.

”The higher-ups have not completely agreed to us accepting the Big White Snake, but of course, they haven’t refused either.” Director Xia Weiguo sighed; it was precisely this point that made him unable to make up his mind.

If he had the full support of the higher-ups, even if the Big White Snake was somewhat difficult to control, he would strive to execute it.

Now that the Big White Snake continued to slaughter cities, it would be even harder for the higher-ups to agree, because accepting the Big White Snake would not only suffer condemnation from the whole world, but there was also a possibility of facing protests from the citizens of the Dragon Kingdom.

”Director, since the higher-ups haven’t refused, why don’t we try it first? As long as the higher-ups see results, they won’t oppose it anymore. The reason they didn’t agree might just be that they are afraid we won’t produce results.” Secretary Song Qingya persuaded.

”What do you want to do?” Director Xia Weiguo said in a deep voice. If Secretary Song Qingya dared to act recklessly, he would definitely refuse sternly.

”Director, I think we should send Su Ling to the USA and let her make contact with the Big White Snake.”

Secretary Song Qingya had promised Su Ling that she would notify her as soon as there was news about the Big White Snake.

Now that the matter in the USA had blown up so big, she feared Su Ling had already seen the news. Given her personality, she might sneak off to find the Big White Snake.

Sneaking off versus going with permission were completely different concepts; she could not let Su Ling feel disheartened.

Therefore, instead of letting Su Ling sneak off, it would be better to fully support her.

”Nonsense! Was the lesson from Sakura Country last time not enough? Do you want to let Su Ling fall into crisis again?” Director Xia Weiguo immediately shouted.

Secretary Song Qingya was indeed somewhat restless. The Secretary Song Qingya who used to be obedient to him was increasingly having her own ideas; he didn’t know if this was good or bad.

”Director, this time is different from last time. Last time, Su Ling went openly, right under the eyes of Sakura Country. This time, we can let Su Ling go secretly.”

”Even if we let Su Ling go secretly, what can she do? She will be discovered sooner or later if she stays in the USA. The USA is not Sakura Country; if Su Ling is in danger, we won’t even be able to save her.”

Director Xia Weiguo firmly disagreed. In his heart, Su Ling was more important than the Big White Snake; Su Ling was the future hope of the Dragon Kingdom, while the Big White Snake might even be a disaster for the Dragon Kingdom.

”But Director, what if Su Ling knows the news and insists on going?” Secretary Song Qingya said softly.

Director Xia Weiguo was suddenly startled. He picked up the phone and dialed a number: ”Hello, I am the Director of the Mystery Bureau, Xia Weiguo. Immediately restrict Su Ling from leaving the country for me; do not allow her to step out of the national borders a single step.”

Hanging up the phone, Director Xia Weiguo gave a cold snort: ”I’d like to see how she goes if she can’t take a plane.”

But soon, Director Xia Weiguo’s expression suddenly changed. He thought of Su Ling’s ability as an Awakened One; if she hijacked a plane, she really might have that capability.

”Secretary Song Qingya, take five Snake-Skin Warriors and go to Hai City immediately to watch Su Ling; do not allow her to go abroad without permission.”

”Very well, Director.” A flash of joy crossed Secretary Song Qingya’s eyes; this was another opportunity to draw closer to Su Ling.

”Qingya, you are my designated future successor; I hope you don’t do anything foolish.” Director Xia Weiguo warned meaningfully.

Secretary Song Qingya nodded silently, but as she turned around, a subtle, imperceptible smile appeared on the corner of her lips.
