Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 2469: Chapter 2463: Old Child

”I don’t know what happened between you and my mother-in-law before, but I still want to thank you for reaching out and saving her. The elderly woman is recovering well now, though she’s a bit unsteady, and might remain so in the future.” Zhao Xuezhi was still very happy; not having to be bedridden and not needing them to attend to her was the best result for them, especially for Miao Qingqing herself. Being the patient, she certainly didn’t want to spend the rest of her life in bed. So, when she found out it was Qin Xue who saved her, she cried, saying she was sorry to Qin Xue. Later, when she learned from Chu Xiaoqiao’s mouth that Qin Xue had also saved her in S Province, she cried even more uncontrollably. Watching that scene, Zhao Xuezhi had mixed feelings, but seeing her mother-in-law, at such an old age, crying like a child, she, as the daughter-in-law, could only comfort her.

So when her daughter asked her to come over to help look after the children, she came. Although the mother-in-law really wanted to come too, she said she felt guilty toward Qin Xue and didn’t dare to face her, leaving her daughter-in-law at a loss as to how to comfort her.

Qin Xue hadn’t expected Zhao Xuezhi to bring this up. She hadn’t done anything special, just fulfilled her responsibility as a doctor. Besides, she was pregnant with her second child now, and soon she wouldn’t be able to work anymore. Even if she wanted to save someone again, it wouldn’t be possible.

”It’s good that grandma’s okay. Doing proper rehabilitation will help a lot. Encourage her to keep her emotions calm and peaceful; it’s beneficial for her condition. Spend more time with her, take her out for walks, let her see new things. As parents accompany us in our youth, we accompany them in their old age. Although this saying may not be entirely appropriate, I ask for your understanding.” It wasn’t that Qin Xue didn’t want to be kind to Zhao Xuezhi; rather, her position was too awkward. Neither side had spoken about the relationship between them, nor have they discussed what they wanted for the future. So, she could only act according to her own thoughts. Given such circumstances, what could she do? She could only cross the river by feeling the stones, only move forward one step at a time.

”Yes, the whole family is aware, and we will cooperate to keep her spirits high.” Zhao Xuezhi nodded; it was only later that she understood why the mother-in-law acted that way.

She herself didn’t know how to express her feelings, because no matter how good a person is, she may not realize it. Since entering the Chu family, she hadn’t won the favor of Miao Qingqing, her mother-in-law. Had that incident not occurred, she might have been the daughter-in-law everyone in the Chu family liked. But things are as they are now, and regardless of her regret, they can’t return to the way they were. She can only treat the people of the Chu family better to compensate for the guilt in her heart, especially towards Chu Molin.

However, she couldn’t discuss these disgraceful matters with Qin Xue, her daughter-in-law, and she kept all of it inside, hoping that Qin Xue would treat Chu Molin well.

”Very good. The elderly get more child-like as they age, hence the saying ’old child, old child.’ But people are different, so the way to treat them must be different too. Grandma has a rather girlish temperament, which comes from the good upbringing you’ve given her. I’m sure you all get along very well.” Qin Xue wasn’t trying to teach Zhao Xuezhi how to behave, but rather acknowledging Miao Qingqing’s rather capricious nature. To reach this age and retain such a heart shows that at home everyone pampered her, never letting her worry about trivial matters. That’s how she has such a woman’s heart. But after this incident, surely she’s feeling the most distressed. So her temper might get worse, but Zhao Xuezhi said she would treat her well and keep her spirits up, which surely wouldn’t be easy.
