Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 2066: Chapter 2060: No One to Help

”No, no one is helping us, so sister, I beg you to help me save my younger sister. I’ll do anything you want, and I’ll slowly repay the favor to you. I don’t have money to buy medicine now, but I’ll find a way.” After hearing Qin Xue’s words, Ji Yan thought of what would come afterward.

He had no money to buy medicine for his sister. If Qin Xue was willing to advance him the money, the first thing he would do once he had the means to earn money would be to repay her.

”I don’t need you to do anything, but you need to understand there’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world. You don’t have the ability now, and when I have a way to save your sister, I can help you, but you still have to live the days ahead yourself, understand?” Qin Xue is not a Bodhisattva. She can help for a moment, but can’t help for a lifetime, so their future still depends on their own fortunes.

”I understand. As long as you can help save my sister, I can be a servant at your house or work like a horse and mule for you.” Ji Yan understood that his parents taught them not to take kindness for granted, so even if he received help from Qin Xue, he would only be grateful.

”You’re so young, what can you do? If the opportunity arises, you should go to school. Only by learning can you change your fate.” In past times, the only way out for children from poor families was education. Although there are many paths to choose from in later generations, they’re all based on knowledge; without it, one can only labor hard, earning very little money.

It’s the same in this world; not everyone can rise to great heights instantly. It’s better to walk steadily step by step.

The current age is a good period for making money, but those with no capital or courage can still achieve nothing, and this child is so young, what can he do?

So when Qin Xue heard what he said, she couldn’t help but hope he could keep his young sister safe and well-fed, paying attention only to their own safety and livelihood. As for gratitude, she never thought of asking for it.

A person with a conscience will remember your kindness even if you do nothing. Without conscience, no matter how much you do, they would take it for granted, not to mention remembering it—they might even turn against you, claiming you haven’t done enough or well.

Therefore, Ji Yan’s mindset made Qin Xue feel comforted. It also proved his parents taught them well. Even if they went out to steal, it was only to get the younger sister treated and survive.

Thus, when Qin Xue heard his sister might have the pox, she was inclined to help him.

Even before seeing them, when she heard what Ji Yan said, it reinforced her belief that she didn’t help the wrong person. Such thoughts made Qin Xue feel good, because a person’s character is nurtured over time, and though some of it is innate, it’s mainly the upbringing that reveals one’s nature, right?

”I may lack ability now, but sister, you must believe me. I will definitely repay you, and I’ll certainly repay you with my sister,” Ji Yan thought Qin Xue doubted they could manage it, so he assured her his words were true.

”It’s okay, that’s not what I meant. I just wanted to tell you, you’re still too young to overthink. You don’t have anything I want. Helping you was just because of certain thoughts, as long as you live well as a decent person, my help won’t be in vain, right?” Qin Xue touched Ji Yan’s head. This child looks small, yet he’s quite tall.
