Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1774: Chapter 1768: Change the Dish

“Oh.” Qin Xue noticed Nangong Beiying’s knowing look. So, she figured it out; no wonder she didn’t keep chatting about the topic.

“Let’s just eat whatever we have. There are so many people, no matter how much we make, it won’t be enough.” Nangong Beiying understood all too well that everyone here had massive appetites. If they really ate their fill, they’d likely leave Qin Xue’s house completely cleaned out.

“It’s fine. I’ll go and buy more.” Qin Xue couldn’t let her house’s food supply get completely emptied over a single meal, so she decided to spend money to buy some. It would also help the villagers earn a little income. Although it wouldn’t be that much money, the vegetables they grew would otherwise go to waste since they couldn’t bear to eat them themselves, and selling them took extra effort.

By going herself, she could save them the trouble. She figured the villagers would be willing to trade with her.

“Alright, you go ahead and buy more, as much as you need. I’ve got some money here; take it.” Nangong Beiying pulled out a few large bills from her pocket and handed them to Qin Xue.

“No need, I’ve got my own money.” Qin Xue didn’t take Beiying’s money. She brought her own cash, and buying just a few vegetables wouldn’t require much. If she took Beiying’s conspicuously large amount, people might start saying she was showing off her wealth. That wasn’t something she wanted to see happen.

Her family still had to live in this village. Ever since they started their business, their living conditions and lifestyle had already become noticeably different from others. If something like this happened again, their family would surely become the center of gossip in the village.

Qin Xue thought that, oftentimes, even when you don’t seek out trouble, trouble tends to find you. People’s psychology is such that they can’t stand others being better off than themselves. She believed it’s always better to live quietly and keep a low profile.

“Mom, I’m heading out for a bit.” Qin Xue noticed her mother busy in the kitchen and informed her.

“Where are you going?” Nangong Shulan didn’t know where her daughter was planning to go so early, so she asked.

“I’m going to buy some veggies from the aunties to bring back for barbecue.” Qin Xue explained her purpose to put her mother’s mind at ease.

“Go to your Fifth Aunt’s house. She grows all sorts of things.” Nangong Shulan immediately offered a suggestion once she understood the reason.

“Alright.” Qin Xue agreed. Her Fifth Aunt had always treated their family well, so it wasn’t a bad idea to support her a little.

“Fifth Aunt, good morning!” Qin Xue greeted Fifth Aunt as soon as she arrived, noticing her busy feeding her chickens. Those chickens looked particularly healthy and robust. Qin Xue stared at them as if the succulent chicken drumsticks were beckoning her. She made a mental note to ask later if her Fifth Aunt was willing to sell them.

“Good morning, Qin Xue. What brings you here so early? Is there something you need?” Fifth Aunt knew Qin Xue wouldn’t come over without a reason.

“Fifth Aunt, I’ve got some friends at my house, and they’re craving barbecue. My family doesn’t have enough vegetables, so I wanted to come buy some from you. Do you sell any?” Qin Xue got straight to the point. Whether or not she could buy the vegetables depended on Fifth Aunt’s decision.

“Oh, I thought it was something big. It’s just some vegetables, right? Wait until I finish feeding the chickens; I’ll take you to the field to pick whatever you like.” Fifth Aunt was startled by how serious Qin Xue had sounded, only to find out it was such a small matter.

“Alright, but I insist on paying you. Whatever price they sell for outside is what I’ll give you.” Qin Xue thought she was incredibly lucky to run into such a good opportunity. She couldn’t be more satisfied.

“Why talk about money between our families? Plus, these are just some basic foodstuffs—not worth much anyway. Don’t be so formal with me.” Fifth Aunt hadn’t planned on asking for money from the moment Qin Xue brought it up. She figured giving them some vegetables wouldn’t matter much; her own family could just eat a bit less.
