All Gods: Starting with Two Families

Chapter 165 People of the SeaUnder the moonlight, the ocean waves slapped against the reefs, emitting a rhythmic roar.

Leon Us, the lord of the Us Territory, a noble knight always known for his elegance and composure, was currently trudging toward the coastline in a disheveled state, clutching a large water tank.

Inside the tank, a light blue fish was thrashing about frantically.

”Let me tell you, your castle is quite nice, but the tank is just too small; I can barely even turn around. Do you have any idea how long I was cooped up in that lousy water box? Three whole days! Three days!”

The fish opened and closed its mouth, chattering non-stop.

”And another thing, can you walk slower? You’re making me dizzy! I am a messenger of the god, a messenger of the god, do you understand? Treat me like this, and be careful lest the god visits punishment upon you!”

A vein throbbed on Leon Us’s forehead.

He was truly at his wit’s end with that god.

From the first moment he saw that potted sunflower, he knew this god was extraordinary. Being able to cure the eye ailment of the young Uss, being able to improve the Family’s breathing technique, and being able to make a fish speak—

Yes, speak.

A fish.

”Can you be quiet for a moment?” Leon Us said through gritted teeth.

”No!” The fish replied righteously. ”My name is Gluttonous One, the ’Glu’ of Gluttonous One, the ’Glu’ of Gluttonous One—”

”Shut up.”

”I won’t!”

Leon Us took a deep breath.

He told himself, this is the messenger of the god. This is the messenger of the god. This is the messenger of the god.

After failing hundreds of times, Zhou Zheng had finally succeeded.

Those gold-blue test tubes, those fish that exploded into scraps of meat, those day-after-day attempts—finally had results.

Gluttonous One, sequence 9 [Bait], the first fish to successfully consume the potion and survive.

Its ability was simple: it had gained a certain level of spirituality, and this spirituality was the exact taste that those Demonic Beasts in the ocean loved most. Simply put, it was a... bait that could talk, think, and haggle.

But Leon Us also deeply realized what a huge advantage it would be in naval warfare if he could control the Demonic Beasts in the sea!

This was the fundamental reason he could tolerate this chatterbox fish.

The albatross flapped its wings and landed on the castle windowsill.

Leon Us removed the newspaper from its leg and unfolded it.

The headline read prominently: ”King Karsa assassinated in public, young son inherits the throne.”

He frowned and continued reading.

”It is believed that this is the third assassination attempt against the royal Family this month. The lord of Ironforge in the North has declared independence, the Emerald Territory in the South refuses to pay taxes to the royal Family, and the Sea Eagle Family of the East and the Gray Wolf Family of the West have already gone to war...”

Leon Us turned the pages one by one.

Similar things were happening in all the kingdoms.

Assassinations, rebellions, independence, wars.

Through Leon Us’s perspective, Zhou Zheng was also reading this newspaper.

These actions revealed the strong hand of a deity. Conflict is the best catalyst. Chaos is the hotbed of faith.

Leon Us made up his mind. This was an opportunity.

The kingdom was too busy with its own troubles and had no time to manage this remote land. He threw the newspaper on the table and stood up.

”The raid will be tonight.”

A thousand reserve knights took advantage of the night to quietly sneak toward the territory of the Sea Serpent Family.

Leon Us rode that black horse at the very front of the formation. The moonlight stretched his shadow long, casting it on the ground like a drawn sword.

The formation headed north, passing through the wilderness and the forest, finally stopping behind a small hill.

Below the hill was the territory of the Sea Serpent Family.

It was a prosperous town. Thanks to the only deep-water port on the island, merchant ships from the mainland docked here, bringing silk, porcelain, and fine wine, and taking away dried fish, salt, and furs.

The port was bustling during the day, with merchants from all over the place haggling in different accents.

Now it was night.

The town was silent. Under the moonlight, the outlines of those magnificent houses were distinct, and one could imagine how dazzling they would be during the day.

Leon Us raised his hand.

The formation stopped.

He looked back at the knights behind him. Those young men gripped their sword hilts nervously, their breathing heavy, their eyes filled with excitement and fear.

Suddenly, screams came from below.

A giant octopus was crawling out of the sea. That thing had eight tentacles, each as thick as a bucket, covered with suction cups, with barbs growing on the edges of the suction cups. It crawled onto the pier, its tentacles sweeping across, breaking wooden posts, crushing cargo boxes, and overturning small boats.

If anyone looked at the port, they would discover a figure scurrying around with a water tank on its back. Gluttonous One, being used as bait, called out excitedly, ”Thrilling! Fun!”

Screams arose from all sides. People ran out of their houses, saw those behemoths, and screamed as they ran back inside. The guards raised their weapons and charged, only to be swept away by tentacles, swallowed by giant mouths, or trampled into meat paste.

Chaos.

Utter chaos.

Leon Us stared at the chaos and raised his hand.

Behind him, a thousand reserve knights gripped their sword hilts, waiting for that gesture to fall.

Leon Us’s gaze pierced through the chaotic streets and landed at the entrance of the largest courtyard.

There, a figure rushed out.

It was a woman with a graceful figure and hair like fire. The head of the Sea Serpent Family, Serena. She stood at the entrance, looking at the rampaging Demonic Beasts, her face ashen.

But Leon Us was not looking at her.

He looked behind her.

A man slowly walked out of that courtyard. He was not tall but very sturdy, carrying a greatsword in his hand. He stood beside Serena, his gaze sweeping over the Demonic Beasts, his expression unchanged.

The three major families on the island each possessed one knight, maintaining a balance of military power. The Sea Serpent Family’s breathing technique did not have combat capability, so they had recruited a person with a different surname through money and marriage.

Leon Us’s hand fell.

A thousand reserve knights charged down the hill simultaneously, the sound of hooves like thunder, shattering the silence of the night.

Hearing the sound, Serena turned her head abruptly.

Under the moonlight, a dark mass of warriors charged over, and on the black horse at the very front sat a figure she knew all too well.

Leon Us.

The lord of the Us Territory.

Her expression changed instantly. The Demonic Beast attack was already a disaster from the heavens; how could the people of the Uss Family appear at this moment?

She looked at the Demonic Beasts, then at the knights, and a terrifying thought flashed through her mind—

This was a planned raid.

”Stop them!” she shrieked.

The knight beside her silently lifted his greatsword and stepped forward.

A thousand knights charged close, and Leon Us at the front reined in his horse and flipped to the ground. The other knights bypassed him and charged into every corner of the town.

Two knights stood face to face.

He raised his sword.

He also raised his sword.

Both charged forward at the same time.

Sword collided with sword, emitting a harsh metallic grinding sound. The sturdy knight stepped back, his heart sinking slightly. This young man’s strength was greater than he had imagined.

Leon Us did not give him a chance to catch his breath. The second sword strike followed immediately, then the third, the fourth—each strike faster than the last, each strike fiercer than the last.

He parried with difficulty, growing more alarmed with each parry.

What kind of speed was this? What kind of strength was this? He had seen the Uss Family’s Eagle Breathing Technique, and it could not possibly be this fast!

He used all his strength to deflect a sword strike, stumbled backward, and stared at Leon Us with wide eyes.

”Your... your breathing technique...”

Leon Us charged forward, the final strike.

His sword flew out of his hand, and he fell to the ground with a deep wound on his chest, never to move again.

Serena’s face turned pale.

Leon Us sheathed his sword and walked toward her.

Serena looked at him, her body trembling slightly. That face was still beautiful under the moonlight, tears shimmering in her eyes, her lips trembling.

”Leon...” her voice was so soft it seemed to be melting, ”There are rare jewels and countless gold and silver in my room, would you like...”

The Sea Serpent Breathing Technique had no combat capability; its only ability was charm.

Leon Us looked at her.

Under the moonlight, that face was indeed beautiful. The tearful appearance was enough to make any man soften his heart.

He walked up expressionlessly and grabbed her wrist.

”Tie her up.”

Serena’s expression froze.

The sound of hooves came from afar and drew near.

Leon Us’s thousand reserve knights divided into several teams and charged into every corner of the town.

The guards of the Sea Serpent Family had not yet recovered from the chaos of the Demonic Beast attack before they were disarmed.

The entire operation took less than two hours.

By the time the moon moved to the center of the sky, the territory of the Sea Serpent Family had already changed masters.

Leon Us stood at the port, looking at the captured prisoners, looking at the shivering commoners, and looking at the flagpole where the banner of the Sea Serpent Family had been taken down and replaced with the Uss Family’s flag.

On the sea surface, Gluttonous One poked its head out and waved its fin at him.

”Hey—how did I do—”
