All Gods: Starting with Two Families

Chapter 157 The First BelieverA rooster crowed outside the window; a new day had begun.

Mobi Us lay on a soft velvet bed, turning over irritably and pulling the covers over his head.

Sunlight squeezed through the gaps in the curtains, casting a trail of light across his face.

He didn’t want to move.

But he still reached out, groping at the bedside for a while until he finally found the silver bell pull. He gave it a sharp tug.

Ding-ling—

A moment later, the door was pushed open, and the sound of light footsteps echoed. Maidservants entered in single file and began to dress and wash him.

Someone fastened the buttons of his vest, someone knelt to pull on his boots, and someone gently wiped his face with a towel soaked in hot water.

Throughout the entire process, no one spoke.

This blind young master had an eccentric temper and was prone to mood swings; no one knew which word might provoke him.

Breakfast was simple: toast, fried bacon, and black tea. He used his knife and fork skillfully to cut the food into small pieces, bringing them to his mouth one by one with movements as elegant as if he were attending a banquet.

After finishing breakfast, he began to inspect his territory.

The castle was his, and the surrounding farms were his as well. This was what he deserved—his father had bequeathed this smallest of territories to him before passing away, under the guise of ”letting the second young master develop his independence.”

As for those fertile lands and bustling towns, they all went to his favored elder brother.

As he walked out of the castle gates, the trainee knights were practicing. Wearing worn-out leather armor and wielding wooden swords, they fought in pairs on the dusty open ground. Seeing Mobi Us come out, several young knights waved excitedly in greeting:

“Good day, Young Master Us!”

Mobi Us nodded, not stopping his pace.

He crossed the training field, walked to the edge of the farm, and stood silently on the ridge between the fields.

The wind blew. The rustling of the wheat waves, the scent of the soil, the faint sounds of cattle and sheep in the distance...

Floating along with the wind were also trivial whispers.

“His neighbor over there is offering three pounds of wheat, as long as we’re willing to move over...”

“Three pounds? That’s one pound more than here...”

“We’ll have to go eventually anyway, might as well be early...”

The voices were kept very low, but the wind carried these words into his ears.

Mobi Us remained silent for a long time.

Then he turned, facing the direction the voices came from, his tone as calm as if he were saying the weather was nice today:

“According to the laws of the kingdom, the flight of tenant farmers is a capital offense.”

Having said that, he turned and left decisively.

A panicked rustling sound came from behind him, mixed with hushed exclamations: “Damn it! Oh no... Good day, Young Master Us!”

Mobi Us did not look back.

He continued forward, through the farm, through that sparse woods, and reached the edge of his territory.

There were no signs of people here. Overgrown with wild grass and littered with gravel, further ahead was the boundary of his brother’s territory. Usually, he wouldn’t come here—there was nothing to see, and he couldn’t see anyway.

But today, he just wanted to take a walk.

He lowered his head somewhat dejectedly, letting his feet lead him aimlessly forward.

Without vision, his other senses became exceptionally clear.

Suddenly, he stopped.

In his dark world that was originally devoid of everything, something suddenly appeared.

What was that?

It was a mass of light.

A burning, white, blinding light.

Mobi Us began to tremble all over.

He ”stared” intently at that light, his eyes aching and tears welling up uncontrollably. But he didn’t even dare to blink, for fear that the light would disappear if he did.

He had never seen light before.

But now, he saw it.

He stumbled toward the mass of light. The closer he got, the brighter it became—so bright it was blinding, so bright it made him weep, so bright he almost thought he was in an absurd dream.

He knelt down and reached out, groping in the darkness.

Grass. Soil. Gravel. And then—

He touched the light!

The sensation in his palm told him it was a flower. The petals were soft, carrying the morning dew, and were vibrating slightly.

The moment he touched the flower, a magnificent voice echoed in his mind:

“Believe in me.”

“And you shall receive—Light.”

...

Zhou Zheng looked down at the trembling young man.

After transforming into a Divine Thought Seed, Zhou Zheng used his remaining Divine Power to scan the area.

Within a hundred-mile radius, there were countless breaths of Life. Farmers, merchants, craftsmen, vagrants, thieves, prostitutes... all sorts of people, everything one could imagine.

But he chose this noble young master who had been abandoned by his Family.

A blind man, which gave him something to desire.

A noble, who possessed secular power.

What a perfect candidate!

But the purity of his faith surprised even Zhou Zheng.

The moment his words entered Mobi Us’s mind, a connection of faith lit up from that direction—not a faint thread, but a thick rope.

A Fanatic.

In the God-Forsaken Land, gaining The First Believer was the hardest part. The power of a Divine Thought Seed was extremely limited; even for a powerful deity, there were at most three chances.

Three attempts.

If one failed to gain a believer after three tries, they would be out of the game immediately.

...

At the same time, in other parts of the God-Forsaken Land.

A knight swung his sword to split a rock blocking the path. The moment the rock cracked open, a tiny light drilled into his mind. The knight shuddered, then furiously raised his sword and hacked wildly at the rock:

“An evil spirit’s temptation! Get out of here!”

Sword light flashed and gravel flew. That Divine Thought was hacked to pieces, dissipating into specks of starlight.

Failure.

...

In a dark basement, a mage was chanting over an ancient book. Suddenly, he looked up, his gaze falling on a book in the corner. That book was glowing slightly.

The mage narrowed his eyes, revealing a malicious smile.

He walked over, picked up the book, opened it, and quickly began to draw on the pages. A complex magic circle gradually took shape, trapping that weak Divine Thought firmly inside.

“Caught an interesting little thing...”

The Divine Thought struggled, but could not break free.

Out.

...

On a bustling street, a noble was strolling with his servants. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a silver coin on the ground, with light faintly flowing over it.

The noble sneered and kicked the silver coin into the roadside gutter.

He walked away without looking back.

The Divine Thought sank into the gutter, submerged by sludge.

Failure.

...

Zhou Zheng looked at the frail young man who was kneeling on the ground, holding the flower in both hands with tears streaming down his face.

This was his first believer in the God-Forsaken Land.
