Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 144: Chapter 133: Over 100 Million in Annual Profits (2)

Lu Li didn’t plan to stay in Myanmar for long at all, so he waved his hand and said, ”Mr. Wana, sorry, I have something I need to return to my country early for, let’s hang out next time if there’s a chance.”

Upon hearing this, Wana looked disappointed, constantly glancing at Mo Juedu as if hoping he could persuade Lu Li to stay.

Mo Juedu had only just met Lu Li, how could he have any influence to help persuade him?

Mo Juedu then cast his eyes towards Sun Demin, Brother Gu, and Zhen Qiang.

Zhen Qiang was quite discerning, keeping his head down, pretending not to see anything.

Chen Man Ni and the other two women had almost the same reaction.

Everyone could ignore Mo Juedu and Wana’s intent, except Brother Gu, as he relied on Wana for his livelihood.

But Brother Gu was grateful to Lu Li for saving his life today, and he didn’t want to force his benefactor into anything.

He gritted his teeth and even subtly shook his head at Mo Juedu and Wana, indicating his refusal to be the persuader.

Wana’s brows furrowed even deeper.

Mo Juedu’s eyes towards Brother Gu also grew sharp.

Clearly, Brother Gu not helping to persuade today had upset the two men, and it was quite likely that they would cut off Brother Gu’s supply next.

Lu Li had a keen sense of perception and naturally noticed the situation at once.

He looked towards Wana and said, ”Old Gu is a close friend of mine.”

Wana, who was originally frowning, suddenly relaxed.

He quickly smiled and promised, ”Mr. Lu, rest assured, in the future, when Old Gu comes to get goods from me, I can give him an additional ten percent of the raw stones. Since Mr. Lu still has matters to attend to and it’s not convenient to stay longer in Mandalay, I won’t disturb your rest. When you come to Mandalay next time, we will have another opportunity to meet.”

Seeing Wana being so tactful, Lu Li thought for a moment and decided to give the other party a chance to befriend him, ”What’s fun around Mandalay? If there’s something fun, I don’t mind staying an extra day.”

Brother Gu, Chen Man Ni, and Zhen Qiang all understood. Because Wana showed goodwill, Lu Li offered a way out and was willing to spend an extra day playing around.

Wana also understood, and he appeared pleasantly surprised, quickly saying, ”Besides various attractions, the biggest highlights in Mandalay are jade and casinos.”

Lu Li was well aware of jade.

But he really didn’t know about the casinos.

He asked curiously, ”Casinos?”

Seeing Lu Li’s interest, Wana proactively explained, ”Yes, they are legal casinos. As early as nineteen years ago, our country enacted the Gambling Law, allowing foreigners to invest in casinos in Myanmar and permitting them to gamble here, but not allowing local Burmese to enter the casinos.”

This rule is quite crafty.

It lets foreigners come here to gamble.

But doesn’t allow locals to participate in gambling.

It’s obviously intended to drive the economy.

Lu Li was planning to go to Macau in a few days.

Hearing that casinos are legal here, his mind was intrigued.

He wanted to get familiar with it now, and then go to Macau to dominate.

He thought for a moment, ”Alright, take me to the casino tomorrow to have a look, it’s quite late today, I need to take a shower and rest.”

Wana didn’t dare to rebut his meaning, smiling broadly, ”Alright, then I’ll come to pick you up tomorrow morning around ten for lunch together, and in the afternoon, we can go play at the casino?”

Lu Li responded, ”Sounds good.”

Wana left with Mo Juedu after saying goodbye.

Finally, as it was already late.

Lu Li, after receiving countless thanks from Brother Gu, Chen Man Ni, and Zhen Qiang, returned to his room to rest.

...

He had just finished showering.

Lu Li wrapped in a towel, hadn’t yet put on clothes...

Alright, he was in a rush to come here, and he didn’t bring many clothes.

The dirty clothes he wore earlier had already been taken by the hotel staff for washing.

He was also wary about the hotel pajamas being unsanitary, so he might sleep naked tonight.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang ”ding-dong, ding-dong”.

Then, Chen Man Ni’s gentle voice came from outside the door, ”Lu Li... Mr. Lu, are you awake yet?”

”Not yet, just a moment, let me put on some clothes first.”

”Okay, no rush, take your time.”

A woman coming to the door.

One certainly can’t greet her shirtless, right?

Lu Li sighed.

He had no choice but to put on the hotel-provided pajamas.

He walked over.

Opened the door.

The freshly showered Chen Man Ni immediately came into view.

Her hair was still wet, evidently hadn’t had time to dry it, and she was wearing a floral dress.

Lu Li stepped aside and said, ”Miss Chen, please come in.”

Chen Man Ni looked quite worn out, forcing a smile and saying, ”Sure, thank you, Mr. Lu.”

After she walked in, Lu Li casually closed the door and asked, ”Why did you come to see me so late? Is there something you need?”

Chen Man Ni stood there blinking and said, ”I came to see you for two things.”

”Have a seat.” Lu Li pointed to a chair not far away and sat down at the edge of the bed, ”What two things?”

Chen Man Ni pulled the chair over and sat down, first showing a grateful look and said, ”For coming all the way to rescue us, I truly cannot thank you enough. My husband and I discussed and decided that when we return to the country, we would like to invite you to our home for a meal, would that be alright?”

Lu Li knew that inviting him to dinner was just an excuse, likely they wanted to give him something as gratitude and used the dinner as a reason to ’lure’ him over.

He didn’t actually want anything, so he honestly said, ”Miss Chen, there’s no need for you and Mr. Zhen to be so formal. I came this time to save you partly because I owed you a favor, and partly because I didn’t want Kexin to worry too much about your safety.”

Yes, there was another reason to test my ability, which he did not mention.

Chen Man Ni said in a slightly pleading tone, ”Mr. Lu, please, you have to let my husband and I thank you with a meal.”

Seeing her sincerity, Lu Li thought for a moment and said, ”Alright.”

Chen Man Ni quickly said, ”Thank you for accepting.”

Lu Li nodded and said, ”What about the second thing?”

Chen Man Ni glanced outside the room, then said somewhat helplessly, ”The second thing is that Brother Gu asked me to relay his message. To thank you for saving his life, he plans to give you twenty percent of the net profit from his jade raw stone business in Su City, with no strings attached, purely as a form of gratitude.”

Giving me twenty percent of the net profit for free?

Lu Li paused at this sentence.

He never expected Brother Gu to be so bold in his gratitude for a life-saving favor, willing to give him twenty percent of the net profit from the jade raw stone business.

If Chen Man Ni hadn’t mentioned ”no strings attached,” Lu Li might have thought Brother Gu wanted to rope him into a partnership.

Maybe by leveraging his influence to get more raw stones from Wana.

But with the phrase ”no strings attached,” it was clear that Brother Gu didn’t intend to let anyone else know about this profit-sharing, purely as a gratitude gesture for saving his life.

Earlier, Brother Gu had taken the pressure of possibly not getting supplies from Wana and refused to act as a go-between, which Lu Li had naturally noticed.

Now, to thank him, he was willing to offer twenty percent of the net profit.

One has to admit, Brother Gu is indeed very grateful.

It’s important to know that Brother Gu’s jade raw stone business is quite profitable.

One trip could easily amount to tens of millions.

And he takes a shipment once a week.

That’s forty to fifty million a month.

A year comes out to five to six billion.

Twenty percent of the profit means Lu Li could get over a billion a year.

The key is, according to Chen Man Ni, Brother Gu intends to offer this profit percentage to him long-term.

This means that even if Lu Li does nothing, as long as Brother Gu continues the jade raw stone business, Lu Li could get over a billion from him every year.

The premise is that he accepts it.

Of course, Lu Li knew this money wasn’t so easy to take.

Although there were no strings attached, after receiving such a significant benefit, how could he not help if Brother Gu encountered any issues in the future?

The answer is obviously, he can’t not help.

No wonder Brother Gu let Chen Man Ni come to discuss this.

He was afraid that Lu Li would refuse.

After all, Chen Man Ni was relatively more familiar, making it easier to talk.

As Lu Li sat there, he didn’t immediately respond, deciding to think it through before deciding whether to accept this money.
