Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 118: Chapter 110: An Enlightened Immortal?

Using one’s connections?

Lu Li thought about it, wondering what suitable connections he had.

Among the people he currently knew, Liu Kexin, Qin Liang, and the Liu Family should belong to the first tier.

If we’re only talking about Huaxia, the Liu Family should be the most ”influential” among those he knew.

But to bother people with such a trivial matter didn’t seem very good.

As for Liu Kexin, the Liu Group is very powerful in the Ugly Country and globally, but its domestic foundation is not strong, so it doesn’t seem to help him much at the moment.

Lu Li set his sights on Qin Liang.

The other person’s father, being the richest man in Shanghai, still has a very significant influence.

Therefore, he felt that as long as Qin Liang was willing to help, it wouldn’t be difficult for him to meet Daoist Zhen, the abbot of the City God Temple.

”Alright, I’ll ask Qin Liang for help.”

Lu Li picked up the phone to make a call.

Suddenly, he saw his precious treasure sleeping soundly.

Lu Li gently climbed out of bed, not intending to wake the other person.

She had stayed up all night to take care of him, without taking off her clothes.

Now she finally got a chance to sleep a bit.

How could he wake her up?

He went to the corridor outside the room.

Lu Li gently closed the door, then took out his phone to dial a number.

Buzz, buzz buzz.

It rang two or three times.

The call connected.

Qin Liang’s familiar voice came from the other end, ”Good morning, Mr. Lu.”

Lu Li replied, ”Good morning, Mr. Qin.”

Qin Liang proactively asked, ”Why are you calling me so early? Is there something you need?”

Lu Li politely said, ”Yes, there’s something I’d like to ask for your help with.”

Qin Liang laughed, ”What is it? Tell me.”

Lu Li asked, ”Do you know Daoist Zhen Hongyi, the abbot of the City God Temple?”

Qin Liang naturally responded, ”I know him. Every year my dad donates a lot of money to the City God Temple. I’ve gone there a few times and am quite familiar with Daoist Zhen. Do you need something from him?”

Ah, knowing him makes everything easier to discuss.

Lu Li felt he had found the right person.

He quickly stated his request, ”I’d like to meet with Daoist Zhen later to ask him some questions. I wonder if you could arrange it?”

”No problem.” Qin Liang agreed readily, ”I’ll call him right away.”

Lu Li quickly said, ”Thank you.”

”No worries, if there’s nothing else, I’ll...” Qin Liang paused as if he remembered something, ”Oh right, in a few days my dad’s company has a project opening ceremony in Macau. I’m going there. If you’re free, why don’t you come along for some fun?”

Go to Macau for fun?

Lu Li pondered that he originally wanted to use the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest as an excuse to go to Atlantic City or Las Vegas to gamble a bit.

Now there’s an opportunity to go to Macau, it seems like he could play a couple of rounds there.

He blinked and said, ”I do want to go, but I don’t have the Hong Kong and Macau travel permit.”

Qin Liang said, ”You can apply for it online, and it takes eight working days. If you need it urgently, you can go to the local immigration management office and apply for an expedited process. Generally, you can get it within three days. I have more than a week, so you should have time to get the permit.”

Lu Li, hearing it was that convenient, said without hesitation, ”Sure, I’ll go to Macau with you for a good time.”

Qin Liang said, ”Alright, I’ll hang up now and contact Daoist Zhen.”

Lu Li thanked him again, ”Okay, thank you.”

Qin Liang replied, ”You’re welcome.”

Then, he hung up the phone.

Lu Li stood outside the door for a while, pondering if he went to gamble in Macau, could he use his X-ray vision, super hearing, and other skills to dominate the casino?

He thought as long as the casino didn’t cheat, there shouldn’t be much of a problem.

In other words, even if the casino did cheat, his spiritual power could completely turn the situation around.

So if he went to the Macau Casino to play, he’d definitely win big.

The question now was, how much money did he plan to win in the Macau Casino?

And how much would the casinos allow him to win?

After pondering for a short while,

Lu Li was about to go back into the room and wait for Qin Liang’s message.

Who would have thought, his efficiency was extremely high.

As soon as his hand touched the door handle, his phone rang.

Seeing the number, Lu Li connected the call, ”Mr. Qin, how did it go?”

Qin Liang’s voice came from the other end, ”Daoist Zhen has a meeting at nine a.m., estimated to end in about an hour. Are you far from the City God Temple? If so, go a bit early, Daoist Zhen will meet with you after he’s done. I’ll accompany you as well; I’ll probably be there around ten.”

”Oh, thank you, thank you.” Lu Li thanked him twice, then asked, ”Are you busy? If you are, don’t let it interrupt your work; I can go by myself.”

Qin Liang said, ”I’m not busy, you just wait for me at the City God Temple.”

Qin Liang valued Lu Li greatly, fearing that if he didn’t personally accompany him, Daoist Zhen might brush Lu Li off, so he insisted on going together.

Lu Li didn’t know what Qin Liang was thinking but readily agreed, ”Alright, give me a call when you arrive, and I’ll come find you then.”

Qin Liang responded, ”Okay.”

He hung up the phone.

Pushed the door open and went in.

Since it wasn’t far from here to the City God Temple, probably only four or five kilometers.

Although the roads in Shanghai were quite congested, it would only take a dozen or so minutes to drive.

Seeing it was still early, Lu Li went back into the room to rest for a while, planning to leave around nine-thirty.

...

On the other side, the City God Temple.

Outside the temple, Daoist Zhen Hongyi had just finished a call with Qin Liang.

He was a Taoist priest in his fifties or sixties, with gray hair, very thin, but looking quite energetic.

Beside Zhen Hongyi stood several senior members of the temple, including the High-Functioning Mage and the steward.

Perhaps he noticed Zhen Hongyi frowning slightly after the call.

High-Functioning Mage Zhang Hongzhong inquired, ”Abbot, what’s the matter?”

Zhen Hongyi seemed rather helpless, ”Old Qin’s son called, saying he has a friend who wants to see me.”

Upon hearing this, the steward Daoist Wang frowned, ”We have several meetings to attend today, your schedule is completely packed, where do you find the time to meet some pilgrim?”

Zhen Hongyi could not help but shake his head, ”Others can be ignored, but Old Qin donates millions of RMB to our City God Temple every year, I can’t disregard that. Fine, after the meeting with the Modu City Daoist Association, I’ll come back to meet Xiaoyu’s friend. If there’s nothing important, I’ll dismiss it with a few words and quickly catch a plane to Beijing, there’s an important ceremony there.”

The others thought the same way.

When free, meeting with pilgrims would not be an issue.

The problem is, recently things have been hectic; Zhen Hongyi, Zhang Hongzhong, and others have been running to various meetings and ceremonies all day long.

They were really stretched too thin, with no time to deal with people.

But as the request came from Qin Liang, Zhen Hongyi had to agree to meet out of consideration for the temple.

After all, the money donated by Qin Yuyong didn’t go to the parent company of the City God Temple, but to this group of Taoists.

As they say, one who eats from another’s hand can’t speak too harshly.

How can the demands of a wealthy man’s son not be met?

Although Zhen Hongyi, Zhang Hongzhong, and other Taoists disliked such disingenuous exchanges, they could only gripe about it in private.

Subsequently, Zhen Hongyi led Zhang Hongzhong and others to attend the meeting.

This meeting was originally scheduled to end around ten in the morning.

However, the high-ranking Taoist hosting the meeting received a call and had to go handle some matters.

Thus, it ended at half-past nine.

The meeting place wasn’t far from the City God Temple.

As soon as the meeting ended, Zhen Hongyi, Zhang Hongzhong, and others walked back.

The group chatted about the meeting content as they walked.

Suddenly, Zhang Hongzhong, who was speaking, abruptly fell silent and came to a halt.

At first, Zhen Hongyi and Daoist Wang did not notice.

It wasn’t until they had walked several steps ahead that they realized someone was missing.

With a strange look, Zhen Hongyi turned his head, ”Brother Zhang, why aren’t you walking?”

Daoist Wang and others also looked back, puzzled.

They even pondered internally if Zhang Hongzhong, being in his seventies or eighties, was starting to get senile.

Zhang Hongzhong’s gaze was fixed on the entrance of the City God Temple.

Without turning his head, he issued a voice of wonder, ”Brother Daoists, come have a look.”

This didn’t imply that Zhen Hongyi, Daoist Wang, and others were older than Zhang Hongzhong.

Among Taoists, it’s common to refer to each other as ”Brother Daoist, Fellow Daoist, Dao Brother.”

”What are we looking at?”

”Brother Chen, what’s up?”

The group, confused, walked forward.

Zhang Hongzhong pointed to a young man and woman standing at the temple gates, ”Look at this young man.”

”Young man?” Zhen Hongyi followed Zhang Hongzhong’s pointed direction, puzzled, ”What’s...”

Before he could finish the sentence, his eyes widened in shock!

Daoist Wang gasped for air, unwittingly uttering, ”Did I... Did I see that right?”

”It’s definitely a mistake,” said another Taoist priest in his sixties, unable to believe his eyes, rubbing them and saying, ”How can such a person exist in this world?”

After rubbing his eyes, the sixties-looking Taoist priest looked at the youth again and was stunned!

Several Taoist priests were genuinely dumbfounded, staring at the young man, their pupils reflecting a sense of shock.

Silence.

The people remained silent for a long time.

Finally, Zhen Hongyi spoke with a slight tremor in his voice, ”Look at him, his divine light reveals on the surface; every movement seems to blend with nature, doesn’t he resemble the description of a true person from the Daoist classics?”

Zhang Hongzhong found it hard to believe, ”Immortal demeanor, spirited and vigorous, truly the appearance of a true person, but how, how could it be...”

He left the second half of his sentence unsaid.

Yet, every Taoist present knew what he meant.

In the Daoist mythological system, people can cultivate to become immortals.

And becoming immortal is attaining the Dao and becoming a true person.

Therefore, those who become immortals are referred to as true persons within Daoism.

This true person isn’t a compliment but rather a description of the realm of immortals.

This is known to practitioners of Daoism.

What’s concerning is Zhen Hongyi, Zhang Hongzhong, and other Taoist priests knew well that while a person can supposedly extend life through cultivation techniques, becoming immortal frankly, doesn’t exist at all.

In other words, the true person appearance described in Daoist classics is fictional.

It’s a truth everyone knows deeply.

Of course, as Taoists, they certainly wouldn’t admit this externally, just understanding it internally.

What about now?

Zhen Hongyi, Zhang Hongzhong, and other Taoist priests directly witnessed the remarkably handsome young man; everything about him, whether appearance or gestures, matched the Daoist classics’ descriptions of a true person!

Each was deeply shocked.

To the point of birthing thoughts of disbelief.

Could it be that someone in this world genuinely attained Dao and became immortal?

Of course, they still found it hard to accept.

Thus, Zhen Hongyi, Zhang Hongzhong, and others exchanged a glance and decided to step forward for a test, to see if this young man was truly a true person.
