System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1450: A Letter

”This is the information we’ve received for the time being.” Harley gave a piece of paper to Noel.

”Hmm...” Noel couldn’t help but squint his eyes when reading the note.

”First of all, it looks like the third princess has stabilized the central government. She is pretty clever with her words, pacifying the unrest by making them think that tomorrow will be better.

”And she has shown a statement regarding the third prince as a demonic human. However, there’s no information about the king. We don’t know if the king was a demonic human or not, but we do know that the king has died.

”It looks like there’s a big movement from the capital city. There’s a high chance that Duke Lorelei is moving toward us, most likely for a negotiation.

”If the information we have about the third princess is right, then she will most likely come to you to propose a trade. The first one she will target will be the road and the train. Expanding it to the capital city will make the kingdom connected. Besides, it will let her stay on your good side.

”Once the economy improves, the people will perceive that the current ruler has finally done something right and acknowledge that ruler.

”It’s probably at that time she will reveal everything. From what I’ve heard, the princess is pushing her coronation as quickly as possible.

”But that’s weird. If she does that, she has to hide it because the unrest will become much greater. There’s a chance for the royal faction to retaliate as well.

”At the same time, the Inquisitor System under the royal family has been utilized. Madam Anna’s father, along with several arbiters and platinum-grade inquisitors, has raided the mansion of the nobles in the royal faction.

”That’s all for the report.” Harley politely bowed to Noel.

Noel paused for a moment before completing Harley’s report. ”She wants to push for coronation not because she wants to create unrest, but because she wants to utilize the marshal. Without recognition as a monarch, she can’t order the marshal.

”While she is indeed clever, she’s not thorough enough. Because of the third prince, the people are thinking about whether the royal family is connected to the demonic humans or not.

”She might think she can say later that the third prince, who has become a demonic human, killed her father as a justification for her coronation.

”However, that’s the extent of her plan. If she wants to erase the doubt in the people’s hearts, she has to make another move.”

”Another move?” Harley raised his eyebrows.

”Yeah. Which influence hates the demonic human the most?”

”Ah!” Harley gasped. ”Now that I think about it, that’s correct. To erase their doubt, you have to befriend the Demon Banner Army. Not only has the army been fighting the Supreme Devil Organization the most, but they have also taken down their headquarters alongside us.

”While extending cooperation to us is good, it’s necessary to have the Demon Banner Army as a visible commitment that they are staying away from the demonic humans.”

”Well, since Duke Lorelei is coming here, I can always tell him that later.” Noel shrugged before turning to the right.

Anna knew it was finally her turn. She sighed and lowered her head. ”Sorry. I’ve failed. I underestimated them too much.

”There are a lot of experts, including a peak transcendence with their path as well as a spirit transcendence.

”The attainment of the spirit transcendence was not low. While I had the upper hand with a bit of the king path, it wasn’t enough to kill him. The most I could do was cut down his arm.

”The Magic Lord and the peak transcendence also fought and managed to kill him. Out of the total number, half of the people were killed before the enemy retreated successfully.

”I couldn’t chase them too far because the east was their territory. My instinct was telling me there were traps.

”But this might be considered an excuse as well... Sorry, I wasted our chance.”

Noel shook his head. ”I, too, failed to take down a demon king. I never expected that the third prince had become a demonic human, and the demon he swallowed was the demon king...”

Anna thought for a moment. ”According to the legend, the demon king was slain, but your ancestor said it wasn’t dead. In other words, it might have reverted to its original form and lain dormant this whole time. And the third prince was the perfect host.

”If this was the case, it explained why the third prince ’wanted’ to kill us.” She specifically raised her voice on that word to tell him that she was talking about their previous life.

Noel thought the same. If the third prince had become a demonic human in the past, he definitely wanted to kill him, the remaining heir of the Ardagan. Once he was gone, there was no one who could stop him anymore.

’I was much weaker in the past, so the demon king thought I was an easy target and killed me. Maybe I was aware of this fact too and planned to send someone to the past to redo everything.

’I might be aware that there were two demon kings, so my strength alone was not enough. That was why I sent Anna in the past instead of me. It would have been close to impossible to convince Anna, who had been brainwashed. But with that rebirth, Anna’s mind became clear.’

Noel felt like he was close to finding the whole truth about their regression, including his decision.

”Still, to think that your action had delayed the demon king from regaining his strength...” Noel chuckled. ”The cave you robbed was one of them.”

”Ah! Really?” Anna chuckled. ”I’m glad.”

”Yeah. I was holding in my laughter when fighting him.” Noel nodded.

Before Anna could say another word, Rose suddenly entered the room. ”My lord. There’s a letter for you.”

”Hmm? A letter? From Duke Lorelei?”

”No.” Rose double-checked it first. ”It’s from your grandfather.”
