System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1434: First Reason

There were four reasons for Wendy’s plans to work smoothly. Of course, Wendy made one last bet against her father, fully aware that if she couldn’t buy enough time, she would have been the one to die.

However, she won that bet because she was confident in her ability to buy enough time.

Meanwhile, the first reason for Wendy’s success was none other than Duke Lorelei.

Outside the castle, Duke Lorelei and Marshal Conrad clashed.

”Do you understand what you’re doing right now, Duke Lorelei? To think that you, who have maintained your neutrality the whole time, would fall so low as to become a rebel. You won’t be able to escape the death penalty because of this foolish action.” Conrad gritted his teeth.

Evan Lorelei simply smiled. ”I know that, but do you think I will do this on a whim? If I do it, I have some expectations that it will succeed.𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

”Besides, do you think I don’t know you? Or do you think I don’t know the princess? No, should it be more accurate to say you actually know the princess?”

”!!!” Conrad widened his eyes in shock.

”The loyal dog of the royal family. You have served the royal family for generations and remain loyal to the throne, no matter how bad the ruler is. I know it all, Conrad. The saddest person in this kingdom is none other than you.

”Yes, you... the person who has sworn your allegiance to the throne. You must have wanted the ruler to change so much... Yet, you aren’t able to say anything because of that promise.”

”You...” Conrad looked shaken. ”Don’t spout nonsense.”

”Really? Spouting nonsense? You know the most, whether I’m spouting nonsense or not.”

Conrad couldn’t reply to his words, so Duke Lorelei continued to reply to it on his behalf. ”Yes. You know I’m not spouting nonsense. If you didn’t wish for that, you would have stopped the princess from entering the room.

”And now, look at you... Even though you are fighting me, who is considered a rebel at this point, you haven’t unleashed everything you have.

”You know that both of us have a spirit transcendence and have the True Spirit Body.

”If you are seriously trying to stop me, you should have used your True Spirit Body.

”But no, you don’t do such a thing. You are hoping I can keep you company here so that you don’t break your oath.

”You know that you have been thinking that if you use all your power, you won’t be able to handle the aftermath. If the owner really changes, the people will lose trust in the royal family if you, the marshal, cause so much destruction in this palace just to stop me.

”Despite trying to fulfill that oath, you are still looking out for the third princess, who is the rebel.”

Evan smiled as if he had seen through him. Both he and Wendy knew how sad Conrad’s situation was.

He had done a lot of bad things under the order of the current king. It was unforgivable, but at the same time, he couldn’t reject it because the oath he made was a Spirit Oath instead of a normal one. If he broke it, he would be crippled.

That was why he believed that in the future, there would be a ruler who could finally restore the kingdom. At that time, he would gladly lay down his life for that ruler.

And this was the time. If Wendy took the throne, he would be freed from the bad ruler. As long as Wendy sat on that throne, she would definitely order him to do the right things. This way, his Spirit Oath would be fulfilled according to his original intention to create that oath in the first place.

That was why he hadn’t used his full power. He could probably subdue a new spirit transcendence, like Duke Lorelei, but numerous people in the capital city would perish.

When that happened, the princess would be scorned by the citizens, and the restoration would be difficult.

Conrad bit his lip, regretful. ”She couldn’t.”

”I believe she can.” Evan shook his head.

”She can’t... because her father is a demonic human. Even if he doesn’t have spiritual energy, he’s still stronger than a normal human.”

Evan simply smiled, understanding his worry. ”And that’s exactly why I believe she can do it. Do you think the princess doesn’t know about it?”

”!!!” Conrad looked surprised. If she knew about it, she might be able to do it. Among all the princes and princesses he had seen, he knew that the princess would be the best ruler.

She personally might not acknowledge that she was talented and that she was just average as a ruler and that she looked like a genius because of how bad her father and other princes and princesses were.

However, Conrad knew that being able to endure the humiliation, maintain her expression, and all other things she had done... It could only be done because she was talented enough.

The princess knew how hard the road ahead was, but she still persisted and prepared everything so that in the future, she could hold her head high, even if her name would later be known in history for its infamy.

That decision required a heart stronger than anyone could imagine.

That was why he secretly wished that the princess could become the queen that would lead the Muivell Kingdom back to its glory.

Conrad was shaken. His wish... going to be answered? The princess knew and had made preparations for her father, who was a demonic human?

Could this be it? Could this be the time the ruler finally changed?

If this weren’t a dream, he, too, would fight for it.

Duke Lorelei smiled. ”Conrad. You’ve worked hard. Let’s dance for a bit longer until everything has been taken care of. Within this time, let us pray that the princess is able to do it.”

Conrad took a deep breath. He raised his spear and leaped forth. ”Yeah.”
