Chapter 1444: Confronting the Royal Faction

A lot of things happened after Noel left. The most important matter was the reign of the new sovereign.

Once she released all the people from the prison, there was one thing she had to do before the morning came. After all, she had to seize the power of the court before Duke Raymond and the rest of the nobles from the royal faction came.

”I see...” Wendy narrowed her eyes. ”This doesn’t look as good as I originally thought.”

”Yes. If His Highness Victor became a demonic human by swallowing the demon king, it would be a disaster. His strength is the proof of everything, so I don’t think Marquis Ardagan’s judgment is wrong,” explained Duke Lorelei.

Wendy glanced at Conrad. It was clear that Conrad was the one who had caused the failure. No, it wasn’t Conrad. She realized she was the one to blame.

If she were more courageous, she would stay here with Conrad and just send the duke there. At that time, Duke Lorelei could work together with Noel to take down the seed of future problems.

But with the demon king on the loose, they knew they had to clash with him sooner or later. At that time, the situation would become more dire, since the other party would hide and get even stronger.

Once the third prince became the next generation of the demon king, no one would be his opponent. It was probably only Noel who could keep up with his growth.

”Does this mean Marquis Ardagan has become strong enough to keep up with the demon king? Is he going to become a spirit king? If I’m not mistaken, the only person in history who achieved such a feat was his ancestor, the Great General Alexander Ardagan.”

”Yes, Your Highness.” He nodded. ”I don’t know if it’s possible or not, but seeing his strength and growth... I don’t think it’s impossible. Besides, he had sent his wife to go with me back then to hunt a couple of ancient demons.

”This is not a matter of simply weakening the enemy... And since Anna Stargaze was the one absorbing the demon crystal herself... It looks like Noel Ardagan has gotten enough spiritual energy to become one.”

”He has become a spirit king?” Wendy raised her eyebrows.

”No, not yet.”

”I am not a spirit user myself, so my apologies. Can you explain it a bit more, Duke Lorelei?”

”Yes, Your Highness. There are three big steps when you cultivate your spirit. The first step is assimilation. In this step, your body is getting used to the presence of the spirit. This step covers the Spirit Apprentice, Spirit Practitioner, and Spirit Wielder.

”Once you finish this step, it’s time to take another step, which is the phase of manifestation.

”To manifest the full power of your spirits, you have to become a spirit yourself. That’s why to become a spirit master, you are required to create a spirit mind. Meanwhile, to become a grandmaster, you have to form a spirit heart.

”These two will be necessary to complete the second step. Last but not least, the phase of uniqueness.

”To become a spirit transcendence, you not only need enough spiritual energy but also the unique path, known as the transcendent path.

”Once you become one with the spirit in the first phase and fully manifest its power in the second phase, it’s time for you to create your own path. The first one is the transcendent path.

”By mastering this path, you will officially become a spirit transcendence. There are a lot of cases where people only have one of them while lacking the other, making them stuck at the grandmaster level.

”Although I don’t know how you’re going to become a spirit king, I know that this level might be similar to the previous one. Instead of the transcendent path, it’s the king path.

”As for what the king path is... I have no idea. Still, his strength is so high that I’m afraid... He has found his own king path. If he can master that power, he will become a spirit king. Not just him... his wife, Anna Stargaze, might be aiming for the same thing.”

”...” Wendy was a bit speechless. One spirit king alone was beyond what any kingdom could handle, so two spirit kings would make them practically invincible.

Then again, she knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. Even if Noel and Anna didn’t become spirit kings, they would have enough spirit transcendence to overpower any kingdom.

Wendy muttered, ”I see. It looks like we have no other choice but to let Marquis Ardagan take the helm.”

”Yes. His goal has remained the same the whole time. If the kingdom doesn’t hinder him, he never thinks of the kingdom as a wall.”

Wendy took a deep breath. ”All right. I know what to do. Everything has been taken care of, so there should be no one who can stop me now.

”Duke. I need to ask you two things. You have a lot of experience, so I hope you can assist me so that I can restore the kingdom to its former state.

”We will accept rune technology in this kingdom like the Greenwood Kingdom. I want you to be the bridge so that it can happen.”

Duke Lorelei nodded. ”I understand. I don’t think he will reject us if you are able to reign over all these nobles, Your Highness.”

”In that case, I will change my second request. Help me pull all the strings to speed up the coronation. I want it to finish within two weeks. Can you do it?”

”Understood.”

Wendy took a deep breath. ”In that case, let’s go. It’s time to confront those old nobles.”

Both Wendy and Duke Lorelei finally entered the throne room. All the people she released had been waiting for her. Christina wasn’t here because she was working together with the western lords and was responsible for leading them to the capital city.

Even though she legally couldn’t sit on that throne, all the people in the room had recognized her as the sovereign.

Of course, the news of the king’s death immediately spread around.

*Bang!*

The door was slammed open as Duke Raymond shouted, ”I need an explanation!”
