Chapter 1422: Killing Royal

A white carriage slowly moved across a small cliff to pass through the mountain. It was heavily guarded by at least 60 guards and 2 experts at spirit master level and spirit grandmaster level respectively.

Inside the carriage sat a man in his early twenties. He crossed his arms while remembering why he had to make this journey in the first place.

...

A few days ago.

The king was standing before him.

”Father... May I know the reason for you calling me here?”

”There is a sudden disturbance in the west. Right now, we can’t do much to the north because of the marquis. The east is completely chaotic. That’s why I need you to go to the west and quell the unrest there.”

”What? The west? If I’m not mistaken, isn’t the third sister... I mean, the third princess there?”

”Can I even count on her? She is nothing but a doll I placed to monitor the situation. Look at the reports she has been giving me. Everything is fine. Count this, marquis that aren’t doing anything.

”It’s clear that something is going on, but your sister is so useless that she can’t even do such a simple thing.”

”...” He fell silent. The third princess’ infamy had spread wide, so it wasn’t weird for him to believe what the king said.

If that was the case, quelling the unrest would definitely give him a lot of points. And if he could somehow gather some followers in the west, he might be able to beat the first prince, who was the current crown prince. This way, he might have the chance to become a king later.

There was no downside to him. Although it would be quite dangerous, as long as he remained careful, he should be able to complete the mission.

Meanwhile, he had known how much the king doted on the first prince. That was the reason he was the one being sent to the west instead of him.

He perfectly knew how dangerous it was. But this was the only chance. Even if he named the crown prince as the successor, he could snatch the seat as long as he had enough supporters.

If that was the case, nothing could stop him from going there.

”I understand, Father.”

”Good. As the second prince of the kingdom, I order you to go to the west and quell the unrest there. Make sure you learn everything there and report to me if something big happens.”

”Yes.” The second prince nodded.

Of course, the second prince had previous consideration. Going to the rational Marquis Ardagan would definitely give him the crown, but he might end up getting devoured by the marquis.

Besides, the marquis had a lot of conflicts with the royal faction, so if he went there, his father would do everything he could to take him down. Hence, visiting him would spell a lot of problems.

Meanwhile, the east was much more chaotic than the west. There were several factions there, so gaining one’s support would force the others to retaliate in one way or another.

He was left with the lords in the west. They were strong because they were protecting the kingdom from the demons coming from the west. Although Noel’s influence reached there, it wasn’t as powerful as in the north.

It was only enough for the western lords to build up their power. As long as he gained their support, with their increase in power, beating the first prince wouldn’t be just a dream.

That was why he headed to the west right away. As long as he passed this mountain, he would be able to reach the first territory in the west, Baron Nevine.

The second prince squinted his eyes. ”Well, Wendy might be useless, but she has been here for a long time. As long as I get some information from her, I should be able to see how to approach this problem.”

However, his journey wasn’t as smooth as he thought. All of a sudden, he heard a soldier shout, ”Enemy attack!”

”Ahhhh!”

”NO!!”

It was followed by screams, making the second prince, Lucas, panic.

”Huh? What’s going on? I’m using the royal carriage. They should know it’s a royal family carriage. And they dare to attack the royal family?” Lucas was confused and furious at the same time.

Although he panicked for a moment, he didn’t forget that there was a spirit master and a spirit grandmaster protecting him. So, it didn’t matter. A small attack wouldn’t be enough to take them down. Only an army could do it. But there was no way an army could attack them on this mountain.

”Your Highness! You have to esc—” The spirit master opened the door, trying to warn Lucas. However, his heart was suddenly stabbed by a spear. He coughed up blood and fell to the ground, dead.

”What?” Lucas was in utter shock. ”What was going on?”

A spirit master might not be as great as a spirit grandmaster, but they were fairly strong and respected in the kingdom.

Yet, such a person died. In addition, what happened to his spirit grandmaster guard? Spirit grandmasters were the peak of the existence of normal people in the kingdom.

Even with the force under Noel combined with what the kingdom had, they had only a bit over 100. All of them were scattered in their respective influences, such as the Demon Banner Army, noble families, or Tower Association.

When he came out, he saw the spirit grandmaster guard he brought here was sliced into two. And the culprit of all this was none other than Duke Lorelei.

”You... You are... Duke Lorelei?!” Lucas gasped. He knew Duke Lorelei was strong, but he never thought he would be this strong. Even a spirit grandmaster couldn’t do anything to him and died so quickly.

More importantly, Duke Lorelei was known to be neutral. ”Duke Lorelei! What are you doing? Are you planning to rebel? You?”

Lucas simply couldn’t believe it, showing how much the image of his neutrality had been ingrained in their minds.

Duke Lorelei shook his head helplessly. However, he wasn’t the one saying it. Instead, another figure appeared from behind him. ”I’m sorry, Brother Lucas. I don’t have a grudge against you, but you have to go.”

”You... You...”
