Chapter 1432: Assassinating the King

Wendy was standing in front of her father, who was sitting on the edge of the bed.

”What do you want to say? According to Conrad, you have something to say regarding the western lords.”

”Yes, Your Majesty. Because of me forgetting such an important fact, I end up disturbing you as you are about to rest, Your Majesty. I apologize.”

”It doesnʼt matter. However, you have to remember. If this is something unimportant, Iʼm going to punish you.” The king squinted his eyes.

”Yes, Your Majesty.” Wendy nodded with a calm face.

”Alright. Speak up. Whatʼs the important thing that makes you disturb me?”

”There are two things, Your Majesty.” Wendy paused for a moment. ”As you probably already know, the golden road of Marquis Ardagan is gradually entering the west.”

”Indeed.”

”Although it looks like there is no connection between him and the western lords, I suspect that he has made a lot of connections with the western lords.

”Count Krain. While he is not necessarily someone who has high achievement, for the past few months, he has been going around the west to visit a lot of nobles.

”Count Krain himself is not among the people in Marquis Nardtʼs circle. However, Count Krain has a very close relationship with the Lesen family. In fact, it looks like heʼs planning to marry his daughter to the acting Count of the Lesen family, the son of Count Lesen, who is now exiled.”

”!!!” The king raised his eyebrows. ”Are you saying that Count Krain is working with the Marquis to sneakily enter the west?”

”Yes. Thatʼs why even if we manage to crush the army coming at us, Marquis Ardagan might use his influence that has been hiding all this time to stop Your Majesty from conquering the west.”

”Thatʼs actually possible. Marquis Ardagan must have known how troublesome we will be once we swallow the west. At the same time, it looks like the situation has become extremely complicated.

”If we attack the west like this, Marquis Ardagan might stop us. If we donʼt take this opportunity, we will remain weak.

”On the other hand, if we mobilize Conrad to forcefully make this expedition a success, we will be in danger.𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

”Count Lesen, huh? In the past, he followed the royal family closely. Once he was exiled, his son took over his duty as the acting count.

”Although his son was nothing ordinary or even slightly bad, heʼs not entirely a bad choice. Once tempered, he will become a decent lord.

”However, Elaine Lesen is different. I have never thought that his daughter would be someone that amazing.

”And because of her, her brother ends up following her and swearing his loyalty to Marquis Ardagan.

”Through the Lesen family, Marquis Ardagan will enter the west…” Count Lesen fell silent.

It was reasonable enough that he believed Marquis Ardagan would use something like that. After all, Elaine was that exceptional.

Although she had yet to become a pillar due to their feud previously, Elaine could gradually redeem herself and officially work for Marquis Ardagan and swear loyalty to him as a free person.

This way, Marquis Ardagan would definitely make her one of the pillars that sustained his family.

With such a close relationship, the Lesen family and the Krain family would do their best to make the expansion a success.

It was clever and secretive, which was similar to how Noel operated. That was why the king believed it would happen.

”I see.” The king looked down, falling into deep thought. Despite being in this situation, he didnʼt even bother asking for her opinion.

He entirely believed that even though Wendy was exceptional as an observer, she was terrible as a problem solver. There was simply no point in asking her, nor did he intend to rely on her, let alone give her an opportunity to become a sovereign.

Little did he know, there was a reason Wendy threw this discussion first. After all, this piece of information was completely fake… Yes, it was fake. She made it up on the way here.

It would have been a disaster if she had failed to accomplish what she had set out to do, but it would be fine as long as she succeeded. After all, she would be the only one left to know about this fake information.

At the same time, this was the same as cutting her way out. If she failed and escaped, Noel would be the one chasing after her and killing her to clear up his name by sending her corpse back to the royal capital.

The king contemplated for a few seconds before asking, ”All right. You mentioned earlier there were two pieces of information. I can discuss it with the ministers for the first one tomorrow. Fortunately, the army hasnʼt moved out yet.

”Although I canʼt recall those demonic humans, they are still useful in stopping the advance of the western lords. So, it doesnʼt matter for now.

”How about the second topic?”

She nodded. ”Actually, there is one big problem in this capital. Iʼm still not entirely sure about it myself, but thereʼs a chance that Your Majestyʼs life is in danger.

”Iʼm by no means trying to curse, Your Majesty, so please donʼt misunderstand. What I mean is that there might be an assassin in this capital city.

”I have been observing for so long that I know how it feels to be observed. Someone has been observing me the whole time, even after entering the royal capital.

”Iʼm afraid… That person is trying to aim for the royal family.”

”…” The king fell silent. He waved his hand. ”You donʼt have to worry about that. Conrad has told me about this problem. He has sensed that powerful presence entering the capital city.

”Although he hasnʼt located that person, as long as Conrad remains in the castle, we will be safe.”

”!!!” Wendy looked slightly surprised. ”How can that be? Are we really safe?”

”You have been observant, but donʼt forget that you are the third princess. Although you are useless, I will still keep your life here.” The king snorted.

”No… How can we be safe…” Wendy shook her head helplessly before taking out a dagger from underneath her skirt and stabbing it in the kingʼs body.

”!!!” The king widened his eyes in shock.

Wendy simply said with a resolute face. ”…How can we be safe… when the assassin is me?”
