Chapter 1413: Usurp the Throne

”Are you serious?” The third princess couldn’t help but furrow her eyebrows.

”Yes.” Duke Lorelei nodded.

”...” The third princess squinted her eyes. ”The tribe outside the kingdom... a tribe that is not completely human... Are they half spirit... No, wait. I believe I have heard something about this in history. Are they perhaps... half animal?”

”How do you know?” Duke Lorelei was surprised.

The third princess let out a long sigh. ”A thousand years ago, to ensure humanity’s survival, our ancestors were experimenting with something that built us, fusing humans with animals.

”They were trying to imitate the demons. After all, demons possessed animals and turned them into beasts. Meanwhile, they tried to make a half-human, half-animal. The original purpose was to use this to fight against the demon, but there were two problems.

”The first problem was that these people were unable to have a spirit. More details were unknown, but this was the major reason they were abandoned.

”The second problem was the Ardagan family’s ancestor. According to the legend, the Ardagan family’s ancestor freed them and gave them a home in his territory, which was still under the demon’s control.

”That was all I learned about this. There might be some records that had more detailed explanations, but I haven’t read them.”

Duke Lorelei and Countess Christina exchanged looks. It seemed that the Ardagan family still had contact with those people they saved a thousand years ago. Or their relationship shouldn’t be that bad. It was the reason Phantom even helped them in the first place.

There was a chance that if they somehow attacked the Ardagan family, this tribe would also join the fight.

Although they didn’t know the exact power of this tribe, there was still at least one spirit transcendence expert.

”I see...” Duke Lorelei closed his eyes helplessly. ”In that case, it can’t be helped. What should we do now, Your Highness?”

”For the time being, we won’t make any contact with them. Once we achieve peace, we can have contact with them and decide what to do, but for now, we will focus on the Supreme Devil Organization, the revival of the demon king, and the Third Prince.

”We will now begin our preparation for taking the throne. If I let my father continue this path, I’m afraid the royal family will be ruined forever.

”To avoid anyone from raising a rebellion, it’s time for the ruler to change. Since you have become a spirit transcendence, I only have one task for you, Duke Lorelei. Will you protect this country?”

Duke Lorelei, who had remained neutral this whole time, got the invitation to usurp the throne. Normally, he would reject or might even report the third princess.

However, after seeing the current state of the Muivell Kingdom, he agreed with the third princess. If nothing were done, the royal family would be destroyed. Once the trust was lost, there were civil wars to make themselves the king.

The civil wars would cost so many lives, which had to be stopped.

Hence, he had no other choice but to join this operation.

”May I know my role?”

”Your role is simple. Stop the marshal. There is no need to fight hard. As long as you stop him, that’s enough.”

”!!!” Duke Lorelei looked surprised. This order was the same as telling him that she planned to spare the marshal. In other words, the princess was still planning to use him despite being fully aware that the marshal had been serving the current king and knowing about all his darkness.

Duke Lorelei couldn’t help but ask with a heavy tone. ”Does the princess... understand the meaning of your order?”

”Yes. I have my own arrangement.” The princess nodded without hesitation. Looking at that solemn face, Duke Lorelei had no choice but to accept the order.

”Understood. I’ll accomplish it no matter what.”

”Countess Christina. It’s time to prepare. I will use the next two weeks to convince the rest of the nobles. Have them march toward the capital. In two weeks, there is a banquet for the crown prince. I’ll make my move there. You have to maintain a close look at the third prince, making sure his servants can’t stop me.”

”Yes, Your Highness.”

The third princess nodded before letting out a long sigh. She was already 19 years old.

She had been a ’good girl’ the whole time so that everyone would look at her as if she was just a doll, manipulated by the royal family so that her value would increase before marrying her off to a high-ranking noble to ensure stability.

She might not be able to escape her fate of marrying a noble, but she planned to regain her rights to choose.

It would be fine if she had to suffer, as long as that sacrifice was enough to ensure the standing of the royal family.

...

Just like the third princess getting ready, the people in the capital had been notified as well.

As someone who had remained in the capital for a long time, Kevin Stargaze was notified by a letter from Anna.

When he read the letter, Kevin couldn’t help but let out a long sigh. ”To think that it would reach this phase. In the end, there is no other solution other than this, huh?

”If this is done quietly, everything might pass smoothly. However, I’m afraid that the third princess is planning to change her image completely and become a tyrant, forcing everyone to accept it.

”It’s just... I don’t know about her capability. If she is capable, the citizens will accept her little by little, but other than the citizens, she has to meet the arbiters as well... I guess the reason for this letter is to watch out for them...”

Kevin looked up. The arbiters had changed a lot since several of them had retired or died. One of them even switched sides.

That was why the arbiters were currently weak, which made it a perfect time to take the throne.

Kevin’s expression turned solemn as he fully understood what was going to happen in the capital. ”I guess I should do my part. Old friend... you owe me this. You didn’t tell me there would be something like this...”
