Chapter 899: Chapter 895: Sudden Plea for Help

Xiao Tian shook his head with an unpleasant look on his face and said, ”I’ve tried talking to her a few times, but every time she cuts me off before I can finish, like she’s deliberately hiding something.”

As he said this, Xiao Tian’s voice was pressed very low; if Xiang Yiting hadn’t been standing close, she really wouldn’t have been able to hear what he was saying.

”I see.” Xiang Yiting thought for a moment, then said, ”Don’t worry, I’ll help you ask her in a bit!”

”Thanks!” Although he didn’t hold out much hope, Xiao Tian still didn’t turn down Xiang Yiting’s kindness.

At the table, Adison Claire still didn’t say much; she only glanced at Xiao Tian from time to time, and she ate very quickly, not slowly chewing like Xiang Yiting and Xiao Tian.

And just when Xiang Yiting had finished composing her words and worked out how to steer the conversation into having Xiao Tian speak directly with Adison Claire, she suddenly heard a sharp slap.

Looking up, she saw that Adison Claire had already put her bowl and chopsticks together, looking like she was about to leave at any moment.

Seeing this, Xiang Yiting hurriedly said, ”Ms. Claire, wait a moment, there’s something I’d like to ask you for help with!”

Adison Claire had absolutely no intention of sitting back down to wait for Xiang Yiting to finish; she stood up directly and said, ”Just now while I was eating, there was clearly plenty of time for you to talk. Why insist on waiting until I’ve finished eating just to waste more time saying it?”

”I still have things to do next. Whatever it is, let’s talk about it tomorrow morning.” With that, Adison Claire carried her bowl and chopsticks into the kitchen, then went into a room next to the kitchen that looked like a study.

This left Xiao Tian and Xiang Yiting staring at each other, not quite sure what to say.

...

After a while, Xiang Yiting opened her mouth and broke the silence.

”Why is it that this time, I keep feeling like Adison Claire is somehow different from before?” Xiang Yiting muttered to herself, a thoughtful look on her face.

Xiao Tian asked, ”Specifically? What do you think is different?”

”Back then, as long as you asked her about anything in her field, she would almost always tell you everything. She might have been a bit impatient in her attitude, but when a few of our classmates asked her questions before, she would at least listen patiently and then answer...”

Supporting her chin with one hand, Xiang Yiting said, ”But this time she won’t even give us a chance to ask. It’s really kind of strange!”

Beside her, Xiao Tian nodded to himself in secret. It seemed that if he wanted to figure these things out, he’d have to wait until tonight when Adison Claire came to find him.

”Let’s wait and see. If there’s still no progress by tomorrow morning, we’ll just leave,” Xiao Tian suggested.

Xiang Yiting could only nod helplessly. ”That’s all we can do. I just hope this trip hasn’t been for nothing!”

...

After filling his stomach, Xiao Tian casually picked a room on the second floor. Although no one had stayed there for a long time and a layer of dust had gathered in many places, after a simple cleaning it quickly looked brand new.

Lying on the bed, Xiao Tian felt countless suspicious points circling around this manor. He really couldn’t figure out what reason would make Adison Claire, all by herself, build a residence this large.

What’s more, after it was built she hadn’t hired anyone to handle the day-to-day upkeep and cleaning. From Adison Claire’s daily routine, she spent almost half her day in the underground lab. That made this sprawling residence seem extremely unnecessary, completely redundant.

Besides, it wasn’t like Xiao Tian had never seen eccentric people before, but this was his first time encountering someone like Adison Claire. Her behavior and temperament were so bizarre that they were almost beyond normal understanding, as if multiple different souls were living inside one body.

In short, this chemistry expert named Adison Claire had truly brought Xiao Tian a whole string of puzzles.

If time allowed, Xiao Tian might have dug into it further, but as things stood now, he clearly didn’t have that kind of time.

And what he’d said at the table to Xiang Yiting wasn’t false, either: if nothing formally got started by tomorrow morning, then with no way to count on Adison Claire, they would have no choice but to find their own way out.

As he thought, time sped by, and in the blink of an eye it was late at night.

Lying on the bed, Xiao Tian suddenly opened his eyes. Within his perception, a woman was slowly making her way up to the second floor.

Xiao Tian immediately flipped over and landed lightly on the floor, then cracked the door open a little, letting the light from the room spill out.

Sure enough, before long the door was pushed open, revealing Adison Claire standing there in a nightgown.

Right now, Adison Claire was barefoot in a pink satin nightgown, standing outside the door. The nightgown wasn’t especially revealing; it only showed her smooth, jade-like calves.

When she saw Xiao Tian, Adison Claire stepped into the room, then suddenly shut the door tight. Before Xiao Tian could react, she rushed at him like a starving wolf pouncing on its prey.

Xiao Tian was startled on the spot. Had he guessed wrong?!

This voluptuous, alluring expert didn’t actually want to tell him anything—she really just wanted to do something with him?!

Just as he was thinking this, he heard a heavy thump. Adison Claire’s knees hit the floor cleanly, and tears poured from her eyes like a torrential downpour, streaming endlessly from her sockets. Her breathing also turned a bit rapid and heavy.

Even Xiao Tian couldn’t help being stunned for a moment at this scene, not understanding what on earth Adison Claire was trying to do.

The next moment, with her eyes full of terror, Adison Claire took a very inconspicuous little slip of paper from the sash of her nightgown. She looked at Xiao Tian with hopeful eyes and held it out to him.

Xiao Tian took the slip and unfolded it. The handwriting was extremely tiny and chaotic; it took him some effort to make it out clearly.

There were actually only four short English letters on the note, but they were written so sloppily that it was obvious the writer had been extremely nervous and panicked at the time.

And those four letters were—Help!

Help?!

The instant he made out those letters, Xiao Tian snapped his gaze to Adison Claire. She was still kneeling on the floor, her eyes filled with pleading as she nodded her head frantically, as if telling Xiao Tian he hadn’t misread it.

Only, that just left Xiao Tian even more at a loss. This was Adison Claire’s turf; as the owner, why was she asking him for help? Who was threatening her life?

On top of that, the way she was asking for help baffled Xiao Tian as well. Why didn’t she just say so out loud? What was she afraid of?

Finally, and this was what puzzled him the most: why did Adison Claire think he would be able to save her?

With so many questions unanswered, Xiao Tian could only turn his gaze back to Adison Claire again. She seemed to know exactly what he was wondering, and stood up from the floor.

The next second, as if she’d made some huge decision, Adison Claire’s arms trembled as she felt for the sash at her waist, then shut her eyes tight and gave it a sudden, forceful tug...
