Chapter 891: Chapter 887: Chaotic Situation

Xiao Tian’s new hypothesis had to do with the energy he had just brought out from the Shaking Light Disc.

More specifically, it was related to the guiding ingredient he urgently needed at the moment to concoct an antidote specifically targeting Ghost Face.

Previously, Xiao Tian had been single-minded, insisting on going to Confucian Spring even knowing he would be overcharged, all for the sake of obtaining the spring water so he could prepare a targeted antidote for Ghost Face.

But now, with the energy he had obtained from the eye of Confucian Spring, perhaps he could take a more direct approach and dilute that energy until it matched the concentration of the spring water.

If this hypothesis proved workable, it would save Xiao Tian a lot of trouble and time; there would be no need to risk going back to Confucian Spring to fetch water.

He could even set off back to China right away, then focus on preparing the prescription once he was home, instead of being constrained at every turn, fumbling left and right, or worrying that if he failed he would have nowhere to find substitute medicinal ingredients.

In fact, this was what had truly been bothering Xiao Tian.

Because for him, going to Confucian Spring to fetch water and then starting to decoct the medicine within a short time was not particularly difficult.

The problem was, what would he do if he failed even once?!

He knew that many of the medicinal ingredients in the prescription were extremely rare and could not be replaced by other herbs; if he made mistakes twice, the prescription would inevitably end up incomplete.

If he tried to purchase them in large quantities, it would easily arouse suspicion. Even if he split up the buying or had others purchase on his behalf, he still couldn’t rule out unexpected incidents, and more importantly, the time it would take was an unknown figure.

Given the current situation, it was obvious that Xiao Tian could not afford to wait too long.

In that case, Xiao Tian’s hypothesis was very much worth trying, and judging from that vigorous energy, the odds of success were actually quite high.

Xiao Tian had drunk Confucian Spring’s water before, and having just now carefully interacted with that cluster of energy, he could preliminarily conclude that the two were highly compatible, the only difference being the intensity of the energy they contained.

It was like distiller’s grain needing to be diluted before it could be drunk. If that vigorous cluster of energy was like the mash, then the spring water of Confucian Spring was the fine wine produced after dilution; the two worked on similar principles.

Guiding a tiny bit of that energy to his fingertip, Xiao Tian picked up a glass, let the energy drip into it, filled it with water, shook it a few times, then held it up to the light to examine it before bringing it to his lips for a tentative sip.

A moment later, Xiao Tian frowned. Even though he had added very little energy, it was still a bit too much for this glass of water.

After thinking it over, Xiao Tian took another sip, then topped up the remaining half glass of water with another half, and once it was full he repeated the earlier steps, shaking it evenly and taking another sip.

However, whether it was just psychological or there really was a difference, although the energy content this time was not much different from the spring water he had tasted at the Confucian Spring Center, something still felt off, and he simply couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was wrong.

Just as he was about to try another round of dilution to find the source of that wrongness, he suddenly heard a burst of commotion from outside the window.

Xiao Tian immediately put away the Shaking Light Disc, strode to the bed and opened the window; the noisy sounds instantly became much clearer.

With his exceptional hearing, Xiao Tian could vaguely make out phrases like ”Give me back my son’s life” and ”Demand harsh punishment for the criminal.”

That particular line—”Give me back my son’s life”—involuntarily made Xiao Tian think of the staff member who had tried to kill Xiang Yiting half a day earlier, only to bring about his own death in Confucian Spring.

His instincts told him this was no coincidence.

Sure enough, moments later a crowd appeared from around the corner, unfurling a banner as they surged forward, heading straight for the hotel entrance and completely blocking it. Among them, an over-fifty woman collapsed to the ground in front of the hotel and burst into wailing sobs the moment she arrived.

Beside her, a middle-aged woman who looked significantly younger clutched a child of about five or six in her arms, also with tears streaming down her face. Their overlapping cries even drowned out the shouts of the people behind them.

Channeling his True Qi to his eyes, Xiao Tian saw the middle-aged woman twist the child’s waist, and another wail immediately joined the cacophony.

”Bring the criminal out!”

”A life for a life—anyone who kills must pay, anyone who commits a crime must face the law’s punishment!”

”Who would’ve thought a female student could be so vicious!”

In an instant, a criminal’s cap was slapped right onto Xiang Yiting’s head. The family’s wails and the sporadic shouts erupting from the crowd that had come along turned the place into a noisy chaos like a vegetable market.

Not only that, as if they felt their raw voices weren’t loud enough, loudspeakers and handheld bullhorns were soon brought out one after another, pushing the already messy scene to another level.

On the street and inside the hotel, people who knew nothing about what was going on kept being jolted awake from their sleep, cursing as they got up to see where the racket was coming from.

In no more than five minutes, quite a crowd of onlookers drawn by the noise had gathered outside the inn. Some busybodies even jumped straight into denouncing Xiang Yiting without bothering to ask what had really happened, like tipping another bucket of fuel onto an already raging inferno.

The hotel staff were at a bit of a loss too. Looking at the sizable crowd outside the door, they were very afraid someone might take the lead in charging inside, in which case the situation would spiral even further out of control.

The duty manager made a snap decision: while instructing some employees to report to the boss, he told others to call the police for help, and he himself began quickly flipping through the hotel’s guest records to search for someone named Xiang Yiting.

...

Watching the growing ranks outside, Xiao Tian’s brows furrowed ever more tightly. Someone had already started throwing stones at the hotel’s glass, and although ten minutes had passed since the commotion began, there was still no sign of police coming to maintain order.

He absolutely refused to believe it was because no one had called the police, or because they were too far away to arrive in time.

Even if none of the onlookers dialed the police, the hotel staff would definitely have called as soon as possible. And having just come from the police station himself, Xiao Tian knew exactly how far it was from the station to the hotel.

Let alone by car—someone running on foot should have arrived long ago. Yet there was still no trace of police, not even the sound of a siren.

What exactly lay behind this, Xiao Tian didn’t want to speculate. The only thing he could do was to warn Xiang Yiting not to step outside the hotel doors under any circumstances.

However, when Xiao Tian picked up the phone and hit redial, he heard only a string of connection tones, with no one answering.

A moment later, Xiao Tian set down the receiver. Just as he was about to hit redial again, the noise from outside suddenly spiked to an unbelievable volume, to the point that even the window glass began to tremble.

Knowing something must have happened, Xiao Tian quickly moved to the window—only to see a figure that should absolutely not have appeared there, standing amidst the chaos...
