Chapter 1699: Chapter 393: Chen Jie: Big Brother, I Really Don’t Want to Be Dharma King! (2)

”Well, since Brother Liu thinks so highly of me, I can’t refuse, so I accept, thank you, Brother.”

Chen Jie clasped his fists, and Liu Futong saw this and laughed, saying, ”That’s more like it.”

After saying this, Liu Futong spoke, ”Alright, since you’re now a member of the Holy Sect, I’ll discuss some matters within the sect.”

”The court’s army has already reached the Seventh Pass Wang River. If they take this pass, the Bright Peak will have no defenses left; defeat is inevitable.”

”But even if we are defeated, I cannot let the Holy Sect disappear without a trace. The sect must leave behind a spark, so brother, I have a task to entrust to you.”

Liu Futong looked at Chen Jie.

Chen Jie did not immediately agree, but looked at Liu Futong, waiting for him to continue. At this moment, Liu Futong said, ”Brother, I know, as I said earlier, I won’t burden you with the affairs of the Zoroastrian Sect, but this matter concerns the life and death of the entire Holy Sect. This isn’t about taking on the sect’s affairs, but a personal request from me as a brother. I hope you can agree.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie fell silent and after a while said, ”Brother, please speak. I’ll do what I can. If it’s truly beyond my reach, I ask for forgiveness.”

Upon hearing this, Liu Futong said, ”Good, brother, you’re straightforward. Since that’s the case, there’s nothing else to say. I hope you can make a trip to the Ming King Hall.”

”Ming King Hall?”

Chen Jie murmured, and Liu Futong said, ”Yes. The Little Ming King should still be at the Ming King Hall. When you go, help me rescue him, and there are two things in the hall that need your attention.”

”First, the dragon eye on the second dragon column in the Ming King Hall can be moved. Inside is hidden a Melt God Pill that can help you advance to the Melt God Realm. Consider this the second gift from me.”

The first gift was a Dharma King position in the Zoroastrian Sect, and the second gift is this Melt God Pill.

Chen Jie remarked, ”Thank you, Brother.”

”No need to thank me, it’s something I should do. Next, once you rescue the Little Ming King, strike the Ming King Bell in the hall to gather all the Ming Sect members on Bright Peak. Then, use the Qiankun Great Method to rotate the Ming King’s treasure chair. It will open the entrance to the secret passage, allowing all Ming Sect disciples to seek refuge there!”

Chen Jie nodded upon hearing this, and at that moment, Liu Futong said, ”Brother, we met too late to enjoy drinks together. If we survive this chaos without me dying, we must drink to our hearts’ content.”

Chen Jie detected the intention of entrusting his legacy in Liu Futong’s words.

Chen Jie actually admired Liu Futong. The Zoroastrian Three Venerables, Han Shantong was powerful, Peng Yingyu was stunning, yet compared to them, Yushan Shangren seemed quite average.

But was he average?

No, ranked seventh on the Heavenly List, the Sky-Supporting White Jade Pillar of the Zoroastrian Sect, the Purple Gold Beam Over the Sea, the only one with the prestige to ascend to the position of Sect Hierarch after the Ming King’s death, yet willingly gave up the position to serve as an advisor, something not everyone could compare to.

Moreover, in the matter of resisting Qian, he was never ambiguous. Back then, to protect a key location of the Zoroastrian Sect, he fought the court’s army alone, even losing his only son in battle. He never mentioned it, nor did he submit to the court. This spirit of resistance is something Chen Jie respected.

It could be said that Liu Futong lived honorably and loyally in his lifetime.

Although he was once on the opposing side to Chen Jie, it was mostly due to misunderstandings. Now that they shared the same stance, Chen Jie found it hard to refuse his request.

Chen Jie took a deep breath, looked at Liu Futong, and said, ”Brother Liu, I will do my best to fulfill your requests.”

Liu Futong responded, ”Mhm, with those words, I’m relieved. Lastly, I have a personal matter. Caidie is my only granddaughter. If possible, please take care of her.”

”Grandpa.”

Liu Caidie understood the meaning of Liu Futong’s words, implying his endowment, and couldn’t help but hug him, crying uncontrollably.

Seeing her cry so sorrowfully, Liu Futong patted her head and said, ”Don’t cry, Grandpa’s just making arrangements, I never said I’m going to die. Don’t forget, Grandpa is a Heavenly List Expert, those court scoundrels are nothing but wretched beings before me.”

”Wooo... Grandpa, you may be a Heavenly List Expert, but there are three experts on the other side. How can you possibly defeat them one against three?”

”Wooo...”

Liu Caidie whimpered, making Liu Futong’s heart ache, momentarily not knowing how to respond.

It was then that Chen Jie spoke, ”The situation at the front is urgent, Caidie, stop crying and let your Grandpa finish his words.”

Liu Futong sighed, ”I’ve said what needed to be said, the rest depends on you, Jiu Si. Even though we haven’t met often, I trust your character. I leave the Zoroastrian Sect and my granddaughter to you.”

Saying this, Liu Futong stood up, and as Chen Jie saw him preparing to leave, he asked a question.

”Brother Liu, what happened to the Mountain Descending Tiger?”

Upon hearing this, Du Xiong, who was tied not far away, listened intently, and Liu Futong sighed, saying, ”He escaped, but I struck him once. He won’t be able to commit misdeeds for a short time. Rest assured, it won’t affect you.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie was relieved, fearing Du Zundao might turn back and cause trouble. If he encountered him then, it wouldn’t end well. But, hearing Liu Futong say he was heavily injured, Chen Jie felt at ease.

Having said a few words, Liu Futong then turned and left. Watching him leave, everyone’s hearts were filled with mixed emotions.
