Chapter 884: Chapter 230: Hundred Households Chen, Truly Di Gong Reborn (10,000 Words Seeking Subscription)_5

”By the way, my Record Officer, Wang Wenyuan, is specifically responsible for secretly investigating the Mei Hua Killer case. For this, I even rented a secluded cottage in the Barbaric Land for him, where he usually collects intelligence and probes the case in secret!”

Chen Jie and Zhao Ya exchanged a glance, both able to see the surprise in each other’s eyes.

So Wang Wenyuan rented a remote cottage to investigate the Mei Hua Killer?

Chen Jie was full of confusion, then looked at Chu Tian and said, ”Magistrate Chu, coincidentally, we just came from Wang Canjun’s cottage.”

”Oh, you actually traced it there, truly swift and decisive, I am impressed.”

Chu Tian clasped his hands towards Zhao Ya and Chen Jie.

Chen Jie said, ”We have just begun, and are not as deep in our investigation as Magistrate Chu. I wonder why Magistrate Chu would have a civil servant like Wang Wenyuan leave the government office and go to a secret place to investigate the Mei Hua Killer case?”

Upon hearing this, Chu Tian laughed and said, ”Haha, Hundred Households Chen may not know, but Wang Wenyuan is a disciple of the former dynasty Song Ci and has a knack for solving cases. You must not underestimate him.”

”As for why he is allowed to investigate this case in a secluded place, it is quite simple; because I do not want anyone to know that I am also investigating this case?”

”Why?”

Chen Jie looked at Chu Tian, and Chu Tian said, ”Hehe, the reason is quite simple. I suspect that the Mei Hua Killer is mingling within the Huangzhou Prefecture’s officialdom and has a high status.”

”Otherwise, the case would not have remained shelved for so long, difficult to solve.”

”Therefore, I have to investigate secretly, to minimize interference, and recently Wang Wenyuan reported a piece of news to me.”

Chen Jie paused and looked at Chu Tian, ”What news?”

”Wang Wenyuan said, he found a type of rouge in the rouge shop that had the exact same scent as the rouge found on the deceased Salt Search Order Zhao Xi at my Magistrate Government.”

”So Wang Wenyuan said, as long as we can find someone with this rouge’s scent and test their martial arts, we can deduce who the killer is.”

Chu Tian said, then looked at Chen Jie, ”By the way, Hundred Households Chen, you just mentioned going to Wang Wenyuan’s residence. I haven’t had the chance to retrieve the rouge he mentioned. Did you manage to find it?”

Chu Tian looked at Chen Jie and Zhao Ya inquisitively, and Chen Jie and Zhao Ya exchanged a glance, then Chen Jie smiled, ”Of course, we found it. Lord Chu, please take a look.”

Chen Jie took out a box of rouge and handed it to Chu Tian. Chu Tian examined the rouge and said, ”It is of excellent quality. Such rouge, I fear not many in Huangzhou Prefecture can afford it. Searching one by one should yield some results.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie’s brows furrowed deeply. After a long pause, Chen Jie looked at Chu Tian and said, ”Magistrate Chu.”

”Mm, what is it? Please speak, Hundred Households Chen.”

Chu Tian looked at Chen Jie, with a willing-to-listen demeanor. Chen Jie was silent for a moment, then looked at Chu Tian and said, ”Magistrate Chu, since you have been investigating this Mei Hua Killer for such a long time, do you have any leads or suspects?”

Upon hearing this, Chu Tian remained silent for a long time.

”No.”

”Oh, Brother Chu, how can there be none, you said some days ago that you suspected it was...”

”Brother Zhong!”

Just as Zhong Guang was about to speak, Chu Tian suddenly called out to him, then looked at Chen Jie and said, ”Some friendly jabber between friends; cannot take it seriously.”

Zhong Guang had a look of wanting to speak but hesitating.

Chen Jie looked at Zhong Guang and said, ”Master Zhong, today the Commandery Princess is here, you can speak your mind freely.”

Zhao Ya said, ”Mm, Master Zhong, say what you know without concern, just speak if you will.”

Zhong Guang then glanced at Chu Tian and said, ”Brother Chu, I really can’t hold it in, I must say it.”

Chu Tian said, ”Brother Zhong, without evidence, you must not accuse others indiscriminately, going about it like this is not in line with the law.”

Zhong Guang said, ”What law, I can’t concern myself with those right now, I’ll just straight out say it, that the Mei Hua Killer must be Assistant Magistrate Wulu Tai.”

Chen Jie frowned, ”Wulu Tai?”

Hearing this name, Chen Jie felt like laughing, something was off, how did these two local officers end up accusing each other?

One claiming Chu Tian to be the killer, the other claiming Wulu Tai to be the killer, both completing a perfect loop, just accusing each other?

Chen Jie thought, then paused for a moment, and looked at Commandery Princess Zhao Ya, who also frowned deeply, not expecting Wulu Tai and Chu Tian to be biting each other like dogs.

Chen Jie composed himself slightly and said, ”Magistrate Chu, Master Zhong claims that the killer is Wulu Tai, is there any evidence?”

Chu Tian said, ”There is no evidence. I already said it’s just idle banter between friends, who would have thought Brother Zhong would just blurt it out.”

”Commandery Princess, Hundred Households Chen, I have spoken carelessly, don’t take it seriously, these things cannot be taken seriously.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie glanced at Chu Tian and said, ”Magistrate Chu, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Since in your friends’ chat, you could say the killer is Wulu Tai, there must be a reason, please explain, and we will just treat it as a casual chat.”

Chu Tian heard this and glanced at Zhong Guang and said, ”You will be the death of me, brother.”

Having said this, Chu Tian looked at Chen Jie and said, ”Hundred Households Chen, since you and the Commandery Princess want to hear, I will speak.”

”I have some friction with Wulu Tai, the reason being I was sent from the Great Capital to take the magistrate position that originally belonged to Wulu Tai, so Wulu Tai has always had opinions about me.”

”To target me, he intentionally created a distinction between the Huangzhou Sect and the Foreign Faction within the County Government.”

”First, let me clarify that this is complete nonsense, there is no such thing as the Huangzhou Sect and Foreign Faction, we are all serving the court, how could we belong to different guilds?”
