”Is the Mei Hua Killer Prefect Chu Tian?”

Upon hearing Wulu Tai’s words, Zhao Ya glanced at Chen Jie, who nodded calmly.

Zhao Ya said, ”Lord Assistant Magistrate, why say such words, do you have evidence?”

At this moment, Jin Yanzi intervened, ”Oh dear, Commandery Princess, don’t listen to his nonsense, he doesn’t have any evidence, it’s just a wild guess, you shouldn’t heed his babble.”

”You really are something, without evidence, how can you make wild guesses, if it disrupts the Commandery Princess’s judgment, wouldn’t the consequences be severe.”

Hearing this, Zhao Ya looked at Jin Yanzi and said, ”Mrs. Jin, since the Assistant Magistrate has spoken so, he must have some conjecture. Would you elaborate?”

Jin Yanzi glanced at Wulu Tai and said, ”You keep talking nonsense, let’s see if what you say doesn’t match, the Commandery Princess will judge you.”

Wulu Tai replied, ”Talking nonsense? When have I spoken nonsense, my words are all based on evidence!”

Hearing that, Zhao Ya asked, ”What evidence!”

Wulu Tai explained, ”Commandery Princess, this killer definitely has a purpose for their murders, there are many officials in Huangzhou Prefecture, why did they choose these particular ones?”

Wulu Tai then led Zhao Ya to the files and said, ”Please look, Commandery Princess, at these seven case files.”

Zhao Ya looked over, seeing Wulu Tai pointing at the files in front and said, ”Look at Salt Seeking Order Zhao Xi, a person from Huangzhou Prefecture.”

”Qian Shunsan, a person from Huangzhou Prefecture.”

”Prison Chief, Zhou Desen, a person from Mianshui County in Huangzhou Prefecture.”

”And these others, apart from Huangzhou Prefecture, there’s Yong’an Prefecture, or other prefectures, anyway, none have origins outside Hubei Road.”

”And I, Wulu Tai, am a native of Huangzhou Prefecture, my grandfather stayed here after helping the Grand Ancestor pacify the south, and for nearly a hundred years, my family has grown in Huangzhou Prefecture, and these officials are somewhat related to my family.”

”And Chu Tian, he was transferred from the Great Capital, how could these people listen to him? So he eliminated dissidents by killing them, to prevent future troubles!”

Wulu Tai expressed his view; Daqian’s official appointments are quite arbitrary, unlike the mandatory service in different regions required in later times, making it easy to form factions locally.

Wulu Tai, as the Secondary Fifth Rank Assistant Magistrate of Huangzhou Prefecture, is indeed a leader among these local guilds.

Whereas Huangzhou Prefecture Magistrate Chu Tian is an outsider sent from the Capital, so naturally, there’s conflict between the two factions.

Albeit restraint in public, they’re embroiled in hidden and overt struggles privately.

And those murdered officers all belong to the local factions in Huangzhou Prefecture, thus Wulu Tai insists that Chu Tian is using the Mei Hua Killer incident to execute his purging of dissent.

Understanding this, Zhao Ya remarked, ”This involves such considerations.”

Saying that, Zhao Ya turned to Chen Jie to see his analysis, but Chen Jie did not speak, just reviewed from the beginning, revealing most were indeed from Huangzhou Prefecture.

This time Chen Jie spoke, ”Lord Wulu Tai, the Record Officer Wang Wenyuan who died today, is he also a person from Huangzhou Prefecture?”

Wulu Tai frowned and said, ”He, he’s not.”

The position of Record Officer is akin to a close secretary to the Prefect, thus chosen among close counterparts, how could it be a native from Huangzhou Prefecture? It must be a Capital official or chosen among disciples to serve as such.

Chen Jie said, ”Then why would the Mei Hua Killer kill him?”

”This...”

Wulu Tai was momentarily at a loss, while Mrs. Jin laughed nearby, ”Haha... Hundred Households Chen really is exceptional, identifying the problem’s essence with a few words; husband, you should stop speaking recklessly, with no evidence and proposing that Chu Prefect is the Mei Hua Killer just due to factional strife, isn’t it impractical.”

Wulu Tai retorted, ”Nevertheless, I believe he is the Mei Hua Killer.”

Mrs. Jin chuckled bitterly, shook her head, and said, ”Commandery Princess, Hundred Households Chen should not mind, my husband is impulsive like this, but without evidence, one cannot just accuse a court official recklessly.”

Wulu Tai laughed at this, not rebutting Mrs. Jin, but said, ”I only discussed this matter with the Commandery Princess, not with anyone else.”

Zhao Ya commented, ”The Assistant Magistrate is truly a straightforward person.”

After saying this, Zhao Ya asked, ”Chen Jie, any findings?”

At this, Chen Jie looked at Wulu Tai and requested, ”Lord, may I take these files back for study?”

Hearing this, Wulu Tai agreed, ”Of course you may, take them, take them.”

Chen Jie clasped his hands in gratitude, ”Thank you, Lord Wulu Tai.”

After saying this, Chen Jie turned to Zhao Ya and said, ”Commandery Princess, I’ve reviewed the files enough, we can leave.”

Zhao Ya replied, ”Okay, let’s not delay Lord Assistant Magistrate’s duties, farewell.”

Saying this, Zhao Ya led the group to leave, Wulu Tai and Jin Yanzi escorted them, and reaching the door, Chen Jie glanced at the martial practice ground in the courtyard and smiled, ”Mrs. Jin, I heard you are adept with the sword!”

Jin Yanzi stopped briefly, then laughed, ”Haha, indeed, my Chunxiang Pavilion is renowned for swordsmanship.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie said, ”I must ask for your wisdom in swordsmanship someday.”

Jin Yanzi smiled, ”Sure.”

With that, Zhao Ya left the Assistant Magistrate Mansion with Chen Jie. Watching the departing group, Wulu Tai looked at Jin Yanzi and asked, ”What do you think of them?”

Jin Yanzi said, ”The Commandery Princess is easy to deal with, but that man named Chen is quite troublesome.”

Wulu Tai remarked, ”Haha, troublesome, there are not few troublesome people in Huangzhou Prefecture, and one more won’t matter...”

After speaking, Wulu Tai turned directly, while Jin Yanzi smiled behind him and then entered the house.
