Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

At the center of the bronze palace floated a brass crane-necked lamp, a solitary candle resting in the crane’s beak. Its faint flame illuminated the entire hall. Seeing it, Lin Yan smiled faintly. This was the core of Zhen Yuanzi’s Formation Path True Inheritance.

The entire bronze palace was a massive Gu formation. Anyone capable of reaching the central lamp would earn the right to inherit the true inheritance. Although the requirement appeared straightforward, the formation concealed countless hidden paths. Only by comprehending its mysteries could one discover the correct route.

Fortunately, in his previous life, Lin Yan had spent five hundred years as a Formation Path Grandmaster. He had long since deduced the secrets of this formation, and every step required to pass it was already familiar to him.

Without the slightest hesitation, Lin Yan stepped forward. His footsteps shifted left and right in an irregular rhythm, sometimes advancing, sometimes retreating. At first glance, his movements seemed completely chaotic, yet every step brought him closer to the lamp. Even when he suddenly began walking backward after coming within arm’s reach, the distance between him and the lamp continued to shrink.

A few breaths later, Lin Yan stood before the brass crane-necked lamp.

The bronze palace suddenly trembled. The candle’s dim flame burst into brilliant radiance, illuminating every corner of the hall. At the same time, a will slowly awakened, and a weathered voice echoed throughout the palace.

”Young man, not bad. To have broken through my grand formation and reached this place proves you possess the qualifications to inherit my true inheritance.”

Lin Yan remained calm, as though he had expected this all along. ”Senior, are you the will left behind by Gu Immortal Zhen Yuanzi?”

”Hahaha!” the will laughed. ”I am not Zhen Yuanzi’s will, but another kind of life. You may call me a Formation Spirit. Blessed lands give birth to land spirits, grotto-heavens nurture heavenly spirits, and grand formations naturally produce formation spirits.”

It stroked its beard proudly before continuing, ”In the past, every grand formation required a Gu Immortal to personally control it. Without a master, even the most profound formation would become rigid, allowing others to exploit its flaws. Zhen Yuanzi changed all that. He created Formation Spirit Immortal Gu, giving birth to Formation Spirits capable of controlling grand formations in place of Gu Immortals. In many respects, a Formation Spirit governs a formation even better than its creator.”

”More importantly, Formation Spirits possess no lifespan. As long as the grand formation remains intact, they will continue to exist.”

Lin Yan nodded slightly. Even though he already knew this, he still admired Zhen Yuanzi’s brilliance. To create Formation Spirit Immortal Gu, Zhen Yuanzi must have spent countless years studying land spirits and heavenly spirits, gradually uncovering the mysteries behind the birth of all ”spirits.”

Land spirits, heavenly spirits, and formation spirits all belonged to one of the Gu World’s deepest mysteries. Their existence seemed to touch upon the profound truths of Heaven Path itself.

Dreams were much the same. They were divided into Human Path dreams and Heaven Path dreams. Human Path dreams were born from living beings and made up nearly every Dream Realm that existed throughout the five regions. Heaven Path dreams, on the other hand, originated from beings such as land spirits and heavenly spirits. Exploring them could directly raise one’s Heaven Path attainment.

Even the dreams described in The Legends of Ren Zu were Heaven Path dreams. Unlike ordinary dreams, they possessed lives of their own. They wandered freely through the world like living creatures, making them among the rarest and most mysterious existences in the Gu World.

Unfortunately, even by the end of the original timeline, Fang Yuan had never uncovered the secrets behind land spirits. More accurately, he simply never had the opportunity. From the moment Fate Gu was destroyed, he had been occupied contending against Heaven’s Will, the Venerables, and ultimately the entire Gu World.

That was also why Zhen Yuanzi’s true inheritance had never been complete in Fang Yuan’s hands.

After Han Li inherited it, Dancer Hong Yun discovered him, seized the inheritance, and killed him. By the time Fang Yuan later ambushed Dancer Hong Yun and reclaimed it, the most valuable part had already been lost. All that remained were the grand formation itself and a few inherited Immortal Gu.

Lin Yan, however, was different. What he inherited was the complete, firsthand legacy left behind by Zhen Yuanzi.

Besides the grand formation and its core Immortal Gu, he obtained everything Zhen Yuanzi had left behind. The Formation Spirit continuously transmitted a vast stream of information into his mind, including the mysteries and operating principles of the grand formation, the complete Rank Six and Rank Seven Formation Spirit Immortal Gu recipes, the ideas that led to their creation, and every research record accumulated throughout Zhen Yuanzi’s life.

There were also more than a dozen complete Formation Path Immortal Gu recipes, hundreds of incomplete ones, over twenty Immortal killer moves, hundreds of mortal killer moves, as well as his experiences managing blessed lands, constructing resource points, and countless insights gained over a lifetime of cultivation.

After fully absorbing the inheritance, even Lin Yan could not help but sigh with emotion.

Compared to the Thieving Heaven True Inheritance, which contained only a single Rank Nine killer move and the corresponding Gu recipes, Zhen Yuanzi’s inheritance was truly complete. It preserved not only techniques, but the entire path Zhen Yuanzi had walked throughout his life.

Most importantly, the records surrounding the creation of Formation Spirit Immortal Gu contained invaluable insights into land spirits, heavenly spirits, and Formation Spirits. Although these methods belonged to Formation Path, they imitated the profound workings of Heaven Path. Several Immortal killer moves had even been created specifically for spirits, exactly what Lin Yan needed at this point.

This time, gains had far exceeded his expectations.

The Thieving Heaven True Inheritance, Zhen Yuanzi’s True Inheritance, the Thousand Wishes Tree, and the inheritance left behind by his previous self... each one required time to fully comprehend. Only by turning all of them into his own foundation could these opportunities truly become his strength.
