Ning An's Wild Wish System

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Who Counts Earning a PhD as ”Academic Success”?

Seeing this scene,

The viewers in the livestream couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

”Hahaha, even though it’s pitiful that the sister is extending her studies, I still find it funnier that the brother did nothing and got slapped twice out of nowhere.”

”If you didn’t know, you’d think it’s the brother who’s extending his studies.”

”Seeing his uncle like that, he’s probably going to get another slap. It’s hilarious. Other livestream side characters are always so timid, but here at Little Daoist’s, it’s all punches and kicks.”

...

What?

Extending studies?

Ning An took a moment to glance at the comments section, and immediately felt a headache coming on.

”Do you really think Changchun Temple is the Evil God Temple?!”

”How could it possibly be about extending studies? You guys have such wild imaginations!”

Oh dang!

It’s not about extending studies?

This made the viewers even more excited.

”There’s something more exciting than extending studies?!”

Ning An was at a loss for words:

”Dear viewers, I may not know what our patriarch will decide, but I assure you, this time it definitely won’t be bad news!”

Seeing the doubtful viewers, Ning An silently took his phone and slipped out.

...

”Sis, you’re fine... great...”

Before Granny Wang’s son could finish saying ”great” for the third time, the village doctor had already strode to the entrance with a murderous look. Without a word, he went straight up and gave a big slap.

”What’s so great about it? Useless brat, get lost and shut your mouth!”

The village doctor’s fierce gaze left him dumbfounded. Before he could explain, the phone was snatched from him in a daze.

The moment he heard a voice from the other end, his sharp gaze softened. He coughed lightly twice, then forced a smile on his chiseled face:

”My dear niece, I, your uncle... Why does your voice sound so low and unhappy lately? Tell me, are you short of money recently? I’ll transfer some to you right now...”

As Ning An stepped in, the livestream viewers could gradually hear the conversation more clearly.

”Your mom is fine, it’s just that this kid talks too much, just an inflammation... don’t worry, it’s not serious... Are you worried about this foolish kid or are you worried about your uncle?”

Seeing the unique tenderness of the northwestern man, the livestream audience felt a bit sentimental.

”Back in high school, my family was poor and couldn’t afford the tuition. I was biting the bullet, ready to go to work, but then, those relatives, who I thought were dead to each other, with cold faces, took out crumpled bills from their pockets so I could enroll smoothly.”

”In the village, everything is fine. Maybe because of a word, there might be a conflict, but if something happens the next day, they are more proactive than anyone else.”

And Granny Wang’s son, standing by, seemed to be affected for a moment, covering his face as he looked up at his uncle. Just as he was about to speak:

”Uncle, no...”

Slap!

Just as the word ”uncle” left his mouth, another swift slap landed on his face.

”My dear niece, what’s that noise? Hahaha, I just swatted a mosquito. Your ears are sharp, just like your uncle’s!”

Wow...

Ning An, who was sneaking out the door, along with the viewers, all took a deep breath at this scene.

Truly a real uncle, he sure knows how to hit where it hurts!

”Niece, listen to your uncle. There’s no need to be too sad. Life is so beautiful, just go out and explore. There are more paths than just one, you...”

Granny Wang’s son’s eyes nearly popped out, tears welling up before he could speak. Was this the uncle who wouldn’t blink when slapping him?

Hearing the uncle’s teasing yet relaxed tone, it seemed like no matter what happened, it wasn’t a big deal at all.

But this time, he learned his lesson, tightly pressing his lips into a seam. If he explained any more, he feared his uncle might beat him to a pulp.

The voice from the other end couldn’t bear it any longer, interrupting him in exasperation: ”Uncle, don’t worry, I’m fine.”

The village doctor laughed heartily, saying: ”As long as you’re fine, haha, if you run out of money, just tell your uncle, I’ll...”

The village doctor hadn’t even finished speaking when he caught a glimpse of his nephew’s funeral-like face, and his heart skipped a beat: ”My dear niece, don’t scare me like this.”

”Uncle!” The weary voice from the phone explained: ”I haven’t extended my studies, I’m just in a bit of a bad mood. Don’t overthink.”

The village doctor’s face, naturally with the temperament of a northwestern strongman, suddenly looked stunned, as if clouds gathered overhead, making his vision a bit dark. He said instinctively:

”My dear niece... I never went to school, but I’m living well. Listen to your uncle, worst comes to worst, we’ll quit graduate school. I have some classmates in companies in the city who can speak up for you...”

”Uncle!!! I’m doing a PhD, not extending my studies. Don’t jinx me!!”

”Doing... a PhD? Not extending studies?”

The voice from the other end increased eight octaves in response: ”Whose goddamn idea was it that I was extending my studies? Let me track them down through the internet and chop them to bits!”

Hearing the lively and animated voice of his niece, the village doctor first breathed a sigh of relief, then his eyes lit up, his voice climbing eight octaves as well:

”That PhD, it’s the one after graduate school, right? That thing?”

”Yes, just that thing. Stop guessing that I’ve extended my studies!”

”Originally, the spot wasn’t even mine, but then a senior before me went home to enjoy his retirement, so the professor just put me in as a substitute. Sigh, gotta go, contact me through drifting bottle if there’s anything.”

Slap!

The sound startled Granny Wang’s son, making him involuntarily jump a step to the side, his already rosy face going a bit pale.

Looking up, he saw his uncle slapping the pillar hard, his nose slightly red, speaking in an excited tone: ”The ancestors have eyes, the ancestors have blessed us!”

”No way, this is the first PhD student from our branch of the family, we have to celebrate it big, really big!!”

The more the uncle thought about it, the more delighted he was, squinting his eyes till they were a slit: ”Everyone around the area must know, our Wang family has produced a golden phoenix!!!”

”Uncle...” Granny Wang’s son carefully spoke: ”Stop always mentioning the ancestors... I always feel a chill.”

Slap!

In a flash, a swift slap landed on his face again.

”Uncle... I’m your real nephew, your real nephew...”

Hearing this pig-squeal-like howl, the village doctor almost felt like tearing him apart, lamenting over how hopeless he was!

Sister pursuing academic excellence, brother being so lackadaisical, what is this!

He bared his teeth fiercely and said: ”Your mother sacrificed her hearing just so your sister could advance her education. Yet here you are sulking with your mouth shut, what, are you laughing at me?”

Injustice, injustice!

Seeing another big slap about to land, he got anxious: ”Uncle, you’re the one who told me to shut up. The moment I speak, you slap me; I didn’t even have a chance to cut in...”

He covered his face, howling in pain.

The village doctor felt a bit guilty inside, but pretended like nothing happened, impatiently waving him off and, spotting the opportunity, quickly gave another slap.

”I came out and saw you with a sulk on your face. You unlucky kid, you’re useless. Your sister is going to be successful in her studies, and just look at your sorry expression.”

Granny Wang’s son was utterly stunned, his mind buzzing, the whole person dazed.

It was deliberate!

This slap was absolutely deliberate!

But seeing the uncle’s cold smirk, he only dared to mutter timidly and softly: ”Doing a PhD is not a big deal. Besides, it’s in Germany.”

The livestream viewers, who had been enjoying the drama wholeheartedly, started to freeze at this.

”What? Did I hear that right? Doing a PhD, well, well, well, yet another life sentence-like ordeal.”

”Advising someone to study medicine brings lightning, advising someone to do a PhD brings being skinned alive. Stop, I’m about to graduate from my master’s, better keep that PhD stuff away from me.”

”As the saying goes, the three years of doing a PhD in Germany will be the longest seven years of your life!”
