The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Mrs. Xia informed Mr. Xia that Xia Man would be returning home.

Mrs. Xia teaches high school and finishes late, while Mr. Xia has a more relaxed job and finishes work earlier. Moreover, Mr. Xia can take leave if there’s nothing urgent, so Mrs. Xia asked him to return home earlier to make dinner for Xia Man.

Mr. Xia’s feelings were complicated.

If his daughter were coming home alone, he would be happy to go home and cook.

But the main issue was that his daughter was bringing her boyfriend home this time, which displeased Mr. Xia.

His daughter is so young; such a small girl shouldn’t be dating! She can start dating after graduating and working for a few years; there’s no rush.

Regardless of his complaints, Mr. Xia took leave and went to the market to buy groceries, preparing dinner early.

Xi Jingchen and Xia Man were in a hurry, and since Xia Man didn’t nap, she fell asleep on the plane, only waking up at the airport.

When she woke up, she was still a bit dazed, so Xi Jingchen carried a large backpack, held Xia Man with one hand, and dragged the suitcase with the other, walking out.

Once they got into the taxi, Xia Man leaned on Xi Jingchen and fell asleep again.

When they arrived at the county, Xi Jingchen had no choice but to awaken Xia Man: ”Manman, we’re almost home, quickly check if the place is correct.”

Xia Man murmured and woke up.

She glanced out the window: ”Yes, just two more streets and we’ll be there.”

The taxi stopped at the entrance of Xia Man’s residential area, and she got out just in time to see Mrs. Xia riding an electric bike home.

Xia Man hurriedly called out: ”Mom, over here, over here.”

Mrs. Xia saw Xia Man and quickly rode over: ”Why are you only arriving now?”

”The flight was slightly delayed.” Xia Man explained promptly, and then introduced Xi Jingchen: ”Mom, this is my boyfriend Xi Jingchen.”

Xi Jingchen immediately smiled and moved closer: ”Hello, Auntie.”

Mrs. Xia gave Xi Jingchen a quick look over and her smile became much more sincere: ”Good, good.”

She then motioned for Xi Jingchen to hand over the backpack: ”Let me help you carry it home, it looks heavy.”

Xi Jingchen handed over the bag without hesitation, placing it on Mrs. Xia’s electric bike.

Mrs. Xia rode slowly as the three talked while walking.

When they entered the house, Mr. Xia came out from the kitchen wearing an apron: ”Finally you’re back...”

Before finishing his sentence, he saw Xi Jingchen and Xia Man.

”Hello, Uncle.” Xi Jingchen immediately went over to greet him.

”Hello, hello.” Mr. Xia wiped his hands on his apron before shaking hands with Xi Jingchen: ”Is this Xiao Xi? Please, have a seat.”

”Let me help you cook.” Xi Jingchen took off his jacket ready to enter the kitchen.

Mr. Xia quickly stopped him: ”No, you sit, the food is ready, you two take a break, we’ll eat soon.”

”Xiao Xi, have a seat.”

Mrs. Xia pulled Xi Jingchen into a seat.

Xi Jingchen thought for a moment, took his backpack, and began taking out the gifts: ”Auntie, these cosmetics are for you, my grandma loves using them and says they’re particularly good. This is tea for Uncle, and we picked a pair of couple’s watches for you and Uncle. Also, these are some specialty products from Su Hai City prepared by my grandma for you to try.”

Mrs. Xia was slightly frowning as she listened.

Whether it was the gifts or not was secondary, the main issue was how often Xi Jingchen mentioned his grandma but not his parents. Mrs. Xia realized that the Xi family’s situation was quite complicated.

”Look at you, coming over is enough, you didn’t need to buy so many things, it’s too extravagant.”

Mrs. Xia smiled and said, then took the items to put away, pulling Xia Man into the room.

Seeing Mrs. Xia’s attitude, Xi Jingchen felt a pang of nervousness, sensing a bit of bad premonition.

Just then, Anning’s call came through.

Xi Jingchen quickly went to the balcony to answer the call.

”Jingchen, have you and Manman arrived?”

As soon as the call connected, Anning asked.

Xi Jingchen quickly replied: ”Yes, we just sat down, I was just about to call and let you know we arrived safely.”

”Glad to hear, glad to hear.”

Anning chuckled, ”By the way, check with Manman’s mom if it’s convenient later. If so, I’d like to say a few words to her.”

”Sure, I’ll ask after dinner.” Xi Jingchen agreed easily.

”Remember to make a good impression.” Anning reminded him: ”Alright, I’ll hang up now.”

After hanging up, Anning smiled wryly and shook his head.

In a previous life, the Xia Family also disapproved of Xia Man being with Xi Jingchen.

However, whether it was Anning in the past or now, there was no resentment towards the Xia Family.

At that time, Xi Jingchen suffered enough from Li Wanping’s schemes, and there was always Hu Yushan causing trouble, while Xi Zhenhua couldn’t figure things out. The Xia Family would be crazy to let their precious daughter be with someone like Xi Jingchen; it would be asking for lifelong hardship for her.
