The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning entered the house and went to Father Tao and Mrs. Tao’s bedroom. She searched and searched, finally lifting the brick under a square table in the bedroom, and dug with a small shovel, revealing a hole.

Anning took the contents out of the hole, filled it back up, and restored it to its original state.

She sat on the kang and opened the box for a glance. Honestly, the Tao family had quite a lot of hidden wealth.

If it weren’t for Father Tao and Mrs. Tao passing away so suddenly without the chance to tell the original owner about this, the original owner wouldn’t have ended up like that, and Xi Jingchen might not have ended up being manipulated by Li Wanping, leading to his tragic death.

In the box Anning held, it was filled with high-quality jade. In these times, the price of jade has been hyped up, and even icy jade can sell for astronomical prices. Anning’s box was completely filled with glass jade, which has extremely good transparency, including Emperor Green, Royal Purple, and others. Selling just one piece would be more than enough for Anning to splurge heavily.

Anning put the box of jade in a safe place and then dug out lots of gold bricks from under the kitchen floor.

Looking at these items, she smiled ruefully, realizing the original owner lived above a treasure mountain yet stubbornly suffocated herself.

After a while, Anning found a wooden box. She put the gold bricks and jade into it, closed the lid, and was just thinking about how to transport it home when her phone rang.

The call was from Anning’s love-struck son, Xi Zhenhua.

As soon as Anning answered the phone, she heard Xi Zhenhua anxiously ask, ”Mom, where are you now?”

”I’m at your grandma’s house. Drive over and pick me up.”

Anning calmly said, then hung up the phone.

Jingxia Village and Jinggou Village were next to each other, less than two miles apart. Xi Zhenhua drove over quickly and arrived in a few minutes.

He got out of the car and was about to ask something in a hurry, but Anning waved her hand, ”Help me move a box first.”

Xi Zhenhua saw a not-so-big box placed in the yard, ”What’s this?”

”Some belongings of your grandma’s, I want to take them home.”

Anning said just that, and Xi Zhenhua didn’t ask any more. He thought, what could possibly be in this shabby house, just a few old things perhaps.

Xi Zhenhua moved the box to the car’s trunk, and Anning got into the car.

As Xi Zhenhua drove, he asked Anning, ”Mom, are you sick?”

Anning sighed, ”I’ve been sick for days, almost died. If it weren’t for my attachment to you all, I would’ve gone to see your grandma and grandpa long ago.”

Xi Zhenhua was startled, ”You were sick and didn’t tell me, you can’t do this. This time you have to come with me.”

”I’m not going with you.”

Anning immediately retorted.

Xi Zhenhua stopped the car by the roadside and looked back at Anning, ”Mom, stop making a fuss, you can’t not come back with me. You’re getting older, there’s no one at home to look after you if you fall ill or something... I won’t be at ease.”

Anning pouted, ”What can you do to take care of me? I’d still have to cook and do your laundry. I’m not going. If I go anywhere, it’ll be to see my grandson.”

”Mom.” Xi Zhenhua shouted, ”Why are you going to Su Hai? Don’t go and make trouble, okay.”

Anning waved her hand, ”Oh, you’ve grown up and become rebellious. You still care about me. Why can’t I go to Su Hai? Why can’t I see my grandson? Don’t think I don’t know your intentions. You’re afraid I’ll see Li Wanping, right? After all these years, you still remember that woman... Ah, ouch, my chest hurts, I can’t go on...”

Anning clutched her chest and wailed, truly scaring Xi Zhenhua.

He quickly started the car, ”Mom, don’t scare me, where are you hurting? I’ll take you to the hospital right away.”

”I’m not going to the hospital, let me die, anyway, I’m just a bother, I’m so sick I’m about to die, I just want to see my grandson. I just want to see Jingchen, but you won’t even let me see him, what’s the point of living then.”

Xi Zhenhua felt a throbbing headache.

At this point, he really couldn’t drive, so he stopped the car again, ”Mom, Jingchen is off studying, what are you gonna do there, you...”

He turned his head to see his always strong mother, tears rolling down her face, looking so aggrieved, like a child.

This made Xi Zhenhua feel very uncomfortable, a rare sense of guilt arose in his heart.

Anning’s tears kept falling, her eyes were red, and she was wiping them, ”I know you don’t like me because Li Wanping divorced you back then, but is that my fault? For these years, I didn’t want to upset you by talking about it, but now... I think it’s better to clear things up. Back then, I never said a single bad word about Li Wanping, think about it, since I moved in, I’ve been doing all the housework, cooking the meals, washing the dishes, cleaning the house, I never let Li Wanping lift a finger, even washed all the clothes for you all, what did you do...”

Anning’s words brought Xi Zhenhua back to his memories.

Yes, he never paid much attention, but now thinking back, it was indeed the case.

Back then, Anning went to take care of the pregnant Li Wanping. Since she moved in, Xi Zhenhua felt the meals were tasty, the clothes clean, the house tidy.

”Mom, I...”

Xi Zhenhua wanted to say something, but Anning ruthlessly interrupted him.

Anning cried like a tearful person, ”Your dad died early, I worked so hard to bring you up. Don’t you know what kind of person I am? Who have I ever had a quarrel with in the village? If others mistreated me, I bore it. For so many years, you don’t even know what kind of person your mom is, how could I possibly treat Li Wanping badly? Even if she was upset, I smiled apologetically, but you, just because that woman cried a few times and complained, you thought I was bad, that I mistreated her, truly, having you was worse than having a piece of barbecued pork.”

Anning wept and vented the grievances pressed on the original owner’s heart for years, crying and wiping her tears, ”Just because she can act, she can cry, and I am honest, willing to make peace, those people in the community all say I’m an evil mother-in-law, but I don’t understand, what have I done wrong, how did I let you down? Li Wanping for the sake of pursuing true love, for wanting a better life, can just splash dirty water on me, then leave me behind, but Jingchen, I have raised him, and now, a phone call from her, and you send my son over like a fool...”

A few slaps hit Xi Zhenhua’s face.

Anning felt a sense of satisfaction; she had long wanted to hit such a barbecued pork son.

Xi Zhenhua took the blows but didn’t dare to retaliate, ”Mom, but she’s still Jingchen’s biological mom.”

”Biological mom?” Anning chuckled, ”Alright, biological mom, but she has another son, that is her true love’s son, tell me, who would she love more, the family of the Xiao is a wealthy family, they’re rich, your son’s over there, with no real connection, they treat him well? Our Jingchen has suffered countless grievances over the years.”

Hearing this, Xi Zhenhua couldn’t offer a reply.

Anning’s words reminded him.

Yes, Li Wanping is Xi Jingchen’s biological mom, but how is he related to the Xiao family? Why would they take care of him?

Not even mentioning taking care, but Xiao Zhe, surely he resents Xi Jingchen.

With this thought, he became anxious too.

Anning slapped Xi Zhenhua’s face a few more times, ”I don’t care, but I must see my grandson. This child is sensible and obedient, always reporting the good news without the bad. Who knows how much he’s been wronged in Su Hai, if I don’t take a look, I can’t rest in peace, even in death.”

”Mom, what are you saying.”

Xi Zhenhua was frightened when he heard Anning mention death, ”We shouldn’t say that, you, you wanna go, just go, when do you want to go, I’ll book you a flight ticket, transfer you some money...”
