The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

This time, after Xiao Yuan came, he also received the memories of the original host and knew the original host’s wishes.

Initially, Xiao Yuan was pondering how to discipline his convenient son, how to find a suitable successor, but when Anning contacted Xiao Yuan, he had an idea.

It turned out that his wish and Anning’s were quite in sync.

Xiao Yuan’s convenient son, Xiao Zhe, was a useless person. His son, Xiao Zhang, wasn’t any good either, though Xiao Tong had some abilities, but her character wasn’t great. She liked to make things up in her head, always imagining herself as a tragic figure, causing chaos at home.

None of these children impressed Xiao Yuan, and before the original host died, he saw with his own eyes how Xiao Zhe and Xiao Zhang caused the Xiao Family to go bankrupt, how Xiao Tong cheated the family, leading to Xiao Family’s bankruptcy while she stood on a moral high ground accusing Xiao Zhe, angering Su Yuezhu to death, and accusing the original host of being blind to black and white and favoring sons over daughters.

It’s possible to say, the original host was angered to death by this family.

The original host was actually a very aloof person. He wanted to find a successor for the Xiao Family, not prioritizing gender but looking at character and ability. He believed he was being fair and impartial, not favoring anyone, yet was misunderstood by those fools, ending up with everyone resenting and complaining about him.

On the verge of death, he thought if I don’t die this time, I definitely won’t have anything to do with these fools, I’d be much better off alone.

Then, Xiao Yuan received all these wishes.

To be honest, the original host’s wishes were quite interesting.

Previously, Xiao Yuan had only seen those who were always worried about their children, lifelong concerned about them, unwilling to let go no matter the harm, parents who were unlike the original host who was so decisive, Xiao Yuan hadn’t really seen.

But it didn’t stop Xiao Yuan from having a good impression of the original host, he also wanted to help fulfill the original host’s wishes.

Suhai University

Xi Jingchen arranged to have lunch with Xia Man, and when they arrived at the cafeteria, Xia Man found a place to sit while Xi Jingchen queued up for food.

He brought the food over, and they shared their meals, leaving what they each liked for themselves and picking what the other liked into their bowls, then exchanging a smile.

”Are you going to the library tonight?”

While eating, Xia Man asked Xi Jingchen: ”If you’re going, I’ll save you a spot.”

Xi Jingchen shook his head with a smile: ”No, I have something to do this afternoon.”

”What is it?” Xia Man blinked, her small face blushing with two red patches, her round apple face looking adorably cute.

Xi Jingchen put down his chopsticks and rubbed Xia Man’s head, his eyes full of doting smiles: ”My Grandma is coming to Suhai to see me, she’ll arrive this afternoon, I have to go pick her up at the airport, and I might have dinner with her tonight.”

Speaking of this, Xi Jingchen tentatively asked Xia Man: ”Are you free this afternoon? How about, coming with me to meet my Grandma?”

He and Xia Man have been boyfriend and girlfriend for a year now, but neither of them had mentioned it to their families. They originally planned to tell their families after graduation, Xi Jingchen deeply loved Xia Man, he actually wanted to go public with his family, but feared Xia Man’s displeasure, so he had been holding back.

Now, Xi Jingchen really wanted Anning to know about his girlfriend, and wanted Anning to meet Xia Man, but he didn’t know what Xia Man thought about this.

Xia Man thought for a moment, then smiled and bent her eyebrows: ”Sure.”

”Really?” The sudden surprise overwhelmed Xi Jingchen: ”Then... let’s prepare in a bit, let me tell you, I was raised by my Grandma since I was a child, she’s really nice, she’ll definitely like you a lot.”

”Hmm, your Grandma must be really nice, just like you.” Xia Man also deeply loved Xi Jingchen, she thought everything about him was good, naturally extending goodwill to Anning even before meeting.

”Let’s hurry up and eat, after that I need to go back and tidy up, by the way, what kind of girls does your Grandma like? What should I bring as gifts or something?”

”She’ll like you no matter what.” Xi Jingchen put the dishes Xia Man didn’t eat into his bowl and poured her a glass of juice: ”Don’t worry, it’s still early.”

After eating, Xia Man hurried back to the dorm to get ready.

She hurriedly washed her face and brushed her teeth, changed clothes, and took out several pieces from the closet to pose in front of the mirror.

Her roommate Li Yan, who was sitting there reading, glanced at Xia Man: ”What are you doing? Is there something important happening this afternoon? You’re going all out.”

Wang Xin, who was about to sleep, poked her head out: ”No way, you two have been together for a while now. Is it necessary to dress up like this just for a date?”

Xia Man picked an outfit and asked Wang Xin: ”How about this on me? Will elders like it?”

She picked a floral dress, with a light knitted hoodie outside. The outfit was very ladylike, and it would make Xia Man look very cute and obedient, such that elders would generally like it.

Wang Xin nodded: ”Not bad.”

”Elders?” Li Yan caught the keyword: ”Xia Man, are you meeting elders? Whose elders?”

Xia Man changed her clothes and smiled: ”Jingchen’s Grandma is coming, I’ll go with him to pick her up at the airport this afternoon.”

”Oh my gosh, are you meeting his family?” Li Yan exclaimed: ”Isn’t this progressing a bit too fast?”

”Not really that fast.” Xia Man smiled, looking quite delighted.

Wang Xin seemed thoughtful: ”Mr. Xi’s Grandma?”

Wang Xin and Xi Jingchen came from the same place, they were hometown friends, and Wang Xin lived not far from where Xi Family resides, so she knew about the Xi Family’s situation.

She quickly moved to Xia Man’s side and advised: ”You need to be careful, I’m telling you, Xi Jingchen’s Grandma is quite formidable, everyone back there knows. It’s said that she was the one who stirred things up in Xi Jingchen’s parents’ divorce, Jingchen’s mom was tortured by her all the time, couldn’t take it anymore and left Jingchen.”

”What?” Li Yan jumped off the bed in fright: ”That formidable? Oh no, Manman, if Xi Jingchen’s Grandma doesn’t like you, you’ll be doomed, the Old Madam might break you both up.”

Xia Man, a naive and lively young girl who hadn’t been through much, turned pale from their words: ”It shouldn’t be that bad, Jingchen said his Grandma is really nice.”

”You’re silly.” Li Yan pointed at Xia Man’s forehead: ”Of course the Old Madam is nice to her own grandson, but you can’t say the same for her grandson’s girlfriend, especially with Jingchen’s mother’s experience, you better be careful, those formidable Old Madams are cunning and sharp, they’re not your match.”

Xia Man shrank her neck in fear: ”I—I’ll be obedient, his Grandma shouldn’t mean me any harm, besides, Jingchen and I are staying in Suhai, his Grandma is back at home, we won’t see each other that often, it should be fine.”

”That’s true.” Li Yan touched her chin: ”You’re just the granddaughter-in-law, there’s a gap, you probably won’t follow in her footsteps.”

Wang Xin also comforted Xia Man with a few words, but Xia Man was still especially nervous.

She applied makeup in front of the mirror, daring only to put on light makeup, using only light shades for lipstick, and lastly tied her hair into an adorably cute bun. After getting ready, she asked Wang Xin: ”Is this okay?”

Wang Xin gave a thumbs up: ”You look quite pretty, go with confidence.”

Xia Man took a bag and left. The moment she went out, Li Yan asked Wang Xin: ”Is what you said true? Is Mr. Xi’s Grandma really that formidable?”

Wang Xin nodded: ”Everyone in our area knows, Jingchen’s mom was really messed up by her back then.”

Li Yan patted her chest in fright: ”Oh my god, while Mr. Xi is great, having such a family is quite terrifying, parents divorced, mom remarried, it’s chaos on that side, then there’s this formidable Grandma, Manman might have it rough in the future.”

”Manman is smitten by Xi Jingchen’s charm, she’s like a love-struck fool now, she won’t consider these things until she suffers.”

Wang Xin curled her lips and went to bed to sleep.
