The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xi Jingchen arrived very quickly, and before too long, he was downstairs at the dormitory.

Xia Man quickly grabbed her things and went downstairs.

The two of them took a taxi to the new house, and Xia Man went into the walk-in closet to hang up the clothes she bought today.

She looked at the wardrobe full of clothes, and she couldn’t hide the smile on her face.

Women, no matter when, always love pretty clothes and jewelry, and Xia Man is no exception.

Touching those clothes with new styles, good materials, and exquisite workmanship, Xia Man simply changed into one.

She put on a light green dress that Anning had just bought her; the dress style was very simple, but the cut was excellent, especially the waistline design was particularly fitting, showcasing Xia Man’s figure even better.

After putting it on, Xia Man came out of the closet: ”Jingchen, how do I look?”

Xi Jingchen almost couldn’t take his eyes off her.

He walked over and hugged Xia Man tightly: ”You look beautiful, Manman looks great in everything.”

After hugging for a while, Xia Man went to tour the new home Xi Jingchen had almost finished decorating; she went around every room and gave Xi Jingchen a thumbs-up with great satisfaction: ”It’s decorated very well, quite impressive. Our Jingchen is amazing. His boyfriend power is like this...”

Xi Jingchen sat down on the sofa with Xia Man: ”As long as you like it, that’s all that matters. Let’s leave it like this for now, and if we see anything missing later, we can add it. By the way, in a few days, we’ll go choose a car. Didn’t Grandma say she’d buy you a car?”

”Better not.” Xia Man quickly waved her hands: ”Summer vacation is almost here, and if we buy a car, I won’t be able to drive it. Let’s wait a bit.”

That makes sense too.

Xi Jingchen then said: ”Okay, that works.

Xia Man thought about what Anning had told her, and she whispered to Xi Jingchen: ”Grandma is afraid you won’t be willing, and she even asked me to feel you out. Actually, I say it’s okay for Grandma to find someone else. She’s been a widow for so many years, all alone and forlorn, and now it’s rare that she finds someone she likes, willing to take a step forward. That’s quite precious.”

In fact, Xi Jingchen was not unwilling.

After all, he had witnessed how hard it was for Anning before, and he knew that Anning was actually quite lonely. Even if she has children and grandchildren, it’s not the same as having a partner. The children and grandchildren all have their own business to attend to, and when he starts his own family, he won’t be able to stay by Anning’s side all the time. Given this, it might be better to agree for Anning to find someone again, so she has a companion, someone who can take care of her if she falls ill.

”This is a good thing.” Xi Jingchen smiled: ”The only thing is, we don’t know what the other person does, what kind of family they have. If the family relations are too complicated, it won’t be good, as we’re hoping for Grandma to enjoy life, not to suffer hardships with him, which wouldn’t be worthwhile.”

It was only then that Xia Man slapped her forehead: ”How silly of me, I didn’t even ask Grandma about his conditions.”

Xi Jingchen chuckled and hugged her: ”No problem, I’ll call Grandma in a bit and ask her.”

Xi Jingchen and Xia Man took a nap in their new home, and after waking up, Xia Man continued arranging the house while Xi Jingchen made a call to Anning.

At that time, Anning was playing a game with Xiao Yuan.

Two people, both over a hundred years old combined, were sitting on the floor deeply absorbed in the game, and Anning’s phone on the coffee table started ringing.

Anning didn’t pick it up until they won the round.

”Hello, Jingchen, what’s up?”

Xiao Yuan came closer as well: ”Our grandson, huh.”

Anning nodded.

Then they heard Xi Jingchen ask her, ”Grandma, Manman told me about that matter. I’m okay with it, just wondering what the other person is like, and if their family ties are complicated.”

Upon hearing this, Anning laughed: ”Oh that, you know the person, you probably have seen him; it’s Mr. Xiao.”

Xi Jingchen almost dropped his phone to the ground.

He was startled and stammered: ”Which, which Mr. Xiao? The CEO of Xiao Family? Xiao Zhang’s grandfather?”

”Yes, that’s him,” Anning said sweetly: ”Jingchen, let me tell you, Mr. Xiao was my first love. We got together back when he went to the countryside; something happened afterward, which caused us to break up. Those were the times; we had no choice. Later he got married, and I married your grandfather, and we lost contact. I met him the second day I came to Su Hai, and then...”

Xi Jingchen felt extremely conflicted upon hearing this.

He wanted to ask, what sort of fate is this?

Was his grandma destined to be his mom’s mother-in-law?

His mom married his dad, and his grandma was the mother-in-law. His mom got divorced many years ago, and now his grandma is going to become his mom’s mother-in-law again, his mom...

Xi Jingchen rubbed his forehead: ”So what does the Xiao Family mean by this? Does Uncle Xiao agree?”

Anning raised a brow: ”Does he need to agree? The Xiao Family fortune was earned by Xiao Yuan, and Xiao Zhe is still living off his father now. Someone living off his father has no right to give opinions; what grounds does he have to disagree?”

Hmm?

Xi Jingchen was slightly taken aback.

That makes sense.

As far as he knew, most of the shares of Xiao Family are held by Mr. Xiao.

Xiao Zhe and his children don’t have many shares, so it could be said that Xiao Family is still under Mr. Xiao’s control. Besides, the majority of the family wealth is also with Mr. Xiao.

If Xiao Zhe dared to go against Mr. Xiao, the old man might kick him out of the family in a fit of anger, and Xiao Zhe would be in a miserable situation.

Thinking about it this way, Anning marrying Mr. Xiao wouldn’t encounter much resistance, and she wouldn’t suffer losses either.

After marrying into the Xiao Family, Anning wouldn’t have to do household chores, wouldn’t have to serve a large family; instead, she would be served. Mr. Xiao still commands absolute authority in the home, and as long as Anning wins his favor, no one would dare show her a bad face; on the contrary, they would need to curry favor with her.

”If that’s the case, I have no objections.”

Xi Jingchen agreed very straightforwardly: ”Let’s invite Mr. Xiao for a meal another day and meet each other.”

”Okay.”

Anning smiled: ”I’m still playing a game, so I’ll hang up now.”

Xi Jingchen hung up the phone, and Xia Man ran over: ”How did it go? What did Grandma say?”

Xi Jingchen rubbed his temple: ”The other person is the CEO of Xiao Family, that Mr. Xiao.”

”It’s him.” Xia Man was also surprised, then she remembered he was Li Wanping’s father-in-law, and couldn’t help laughing. The more she laughed, the louder her voice became, until she was bent over with laughter.

As she laughed, Xi Jingchen laughed too.

”What kind of fate is all this?” Xia Man laughed so hard her stomach hurt, lying on the sofa asking Xi Jingchen to rub her belly: ”But for us, this is a good thing. You see, Grandma dotes on us so much. When we get married, your mom certainly won’t dare to make trouble. If she tries anything, Grandma will be there to suppress her, and we can do whatever we want.”

It really is like that.

Initially, Xi Jingchen hadn’t thought about mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships.

After all, Li Wanping was divorced, and she had a son she raised from a young age. Li Wanping shouldn’t interfere with his marriage.

But after Xia Man mentioned it, Xi Jingchen realized his mom wasn’t ordinary. She might meddle in his marriage; if so, it would truly be a hassle.

But now it’s alright, no need to worry.

With Grandma there, it’s like the big fish eats the little fish, and the little fish eats the shrimp, level by level.

If Li Wanping dares to meddle in his marriage or criticize Xia Man, he can go to Grandma. Grandma is Li Wanping’s mother-in-law, and in two marriages, Grandma has been the mother-in-law, so she must have understood Li Wanping’s character over the years. Dealing with his mom would be too easy.

Suddenly, Xi Jingchen felt emboldened, it really felt like having a strong backing.

”From now on, I must treat Grandma even better.” Xia Man made a fist: ”If your mom dares to do anything to me, I will team up with Grandma to deal with her.”
